“You still haven’t told me everything,” Casey prodded knowingly.

Lucas exhaled a heavy breath. “James Colby and Errol Leberman were in military intelligence together. There was a terrible tragedy. Leberman lost his entire family. He lost it and somehow got the idea that James was responsible. He swore he’d have his revenge.” Lucas shook his head. “He killed James. I can’t prove it, but I know it. Leberman is determined to destroy all that belonged to James.”

“We’ll stop him,” Casey offered reassuringly.

“Victoria has suffered enough,” Lucas added wearily. “She lost her husband and her son.”

“Did Leberman have anything to do with the son?”

“I believe he did, but there’s no proof.” Lucas made a sound of disgust. “What makes it so bad is the fact that Leberman and I have had the same training. He knows all the tricks. He won’t be easy to stop.”

Casey’s gaze locked with Lucas’s. “So we wait?”

Lucas knew it was a more or less rhetorical question, but he responded just the same. “We wait. And this time when he rears that ugly head out of whatever hole he’s hiding in, I’m going to finish this once and for all.”

Casey had no doubt that he would. Lucas Camp was a man of his word. Casey still felt guilty that he’d allowed Lucas to go to that island in his stead, but then, Leberman had counted on Lucas doing just that.

Casey watched as Lucas strode slowly toward the car waiting to take him back to Mission Recovery. Casey was in no hurry. He turned back to the gallery just across the small plaza. Lucas was right about that too. There was nothing like a happy ending.
