We’ve been in our new home for about ten months now, and I haven’t exactly made many friends. You’d think with not working anymore, I’d have plenty of time to socialize, but the problem is I have nowhere to go and nobody to go with.
As proud as I am of Brett for his promotion, I almost wish he wouldn’t have gotten it. I mean, it’s been perfect for our family regarding having a brand new home, the kids are in an excellent school, and he’s climbing the corporate ladder, but I’m bored and lonely.
I’ve been thinking about getting a part-time job just to get out of the house and socialize. Brett says he doesn’t care what I do as long as I’m happy.
Looking up at the clock, I swipe on a thin layer of lip gloss and straighten my necklace before I turn out the bathroom light. He should be ready to pick me up any minute.
He said to be ready by 8:00.
Just a few minutes past 8, I see his headlights turn up the long driveway that circles the front lawn and I grab my handbag.
“I almost thought you forgot about me,” I say, climbing into the leather front seat of his new sports car.
He loves driving this thing to impress clients, and I don’t blame him. It’s a badass car.
“Sorry, I had to do a few things before I could pick you up, so it put me running late,” he reaches behind me. “Here, these are for you.”
He hands me a fresh bouquet of pink and red roses with baby’s breaths mixed in. They smell fantastic!
“I love these,” I say to him, inhaling their scent. “They’re gorgeous.”
“I picked them up from Amy’s Flower Shop,” he grins.
Amy’s Flower Shop is the place to go to for flowers around here. If he didn’t have such a good job, I’d tell him he got ripped off, but I’ll keep my mouth shut because he can afford a dozen of these if he wanted to.
“Wow! Gettin’ all fancy on me, huh?” I place the roses in my lap and continue admiring them. “So, where are we going?”
“Well, I was going to keep it a secret,” he reaches over and takes my hand in his, kissing the back of it. “But you’ll think something completely different if I don’t tell you what it is.”
“What?” I ask. I’m almost afraid to know.
“We’re going to Astasia’s.”
I open my mouth but close it when I realize that he’s taking me to the most expensive hotel in the area.
No, Cathy. Don’t go there. He said he was only telling, so I don’t think it’s something else. This has nothing to do with the businessmen.
“What? Why?”
“I thought I’d do something special for you, so I rented a suite. There’s a beautiful balcony that overlooks the city, and it has a hot tub. In the morning, I have you booked for a complete day at the spa so you can get a massage, a facial and that thing where you girls do your nails.”
I’m shocked, he went all out this year, and it means so much to me.
“Babe, that’s so sweet! Oh, I love you,” I lean over and kiss him on the cheek as we pull up in front of the hotel.
He smiles at me as he turns the car over to valet and we make our way inside.
“And there may or may not be a surprise waiting for you in the room,” he adds.
“Aww! What is it?” I ask.
“You’ll have to wait and see,” he says as we make our way across the lobby.
All of the possibilities are flashing through my mind. He could have a romantic dinner waiting, or maybe we’re skipping it and going straight for dessert: a bottle of chilled wine with chocolate-covered strawberries.
Or maybe he’s already hidden a special birthday gift in the room. The possibilities with him are endless, and I’m growing more excited by the minute.
Stepping off the elevator, he leads me to our suite where he makes me cover my eyes before we enter the room.
I can tell that the lights are off because no light makes it through my closed eyelids and the darkness of the room blankets us as we walk deeper into the suite and the door clicks shut behind us.
“Can I open them now?” I ask.
I feel a little foolish walking around a dark room with my eyes closed.
“One second,” I hear him click on a lamp and a tiny bit of light breaks through my closed lids. “Okay, and open them!”
When I open my eyes, I see Scott sitting on the bed, holding a small gift bag.
“Oh, my God!” I squeal and jump into Scott’s lap.
I’m so excited to see him.
“I can’t believe you drove all the way up here!” I give him a kiss.
“I didn’t,” he shakes his head. “I took a flight, and Brett picked me up at the airport.”
“You flew here?” I ask in disbelief.
“Yep, for your birthday. Brett called me a month ago, and we started planning your birthday. He said you'd been kind of down lately, so we wanted to surprise you.”
Tears are welling up in my eyes.
These two guys, my lover, and my husband, have been planning and plotting my birthday for so long and they both kept it a secret. It’s the sweetest thing ever.
“Oh, my God,” I whisper. “I can’t believe you guys. You two are so amazing!”
I climb off of Scott’s lap and run over to Brett and jump into his arms, hugging him tightly.
“I fucking love you,” I say to him. “You are the best husband ever.”
After a long embrace, he sets me down.
“Aren’t you going to see what’s in the gift bag?” Scott asks. “I brought you a gift.”
“Oh, yes! Of course, I want to see what you bought me,” I take the bag from him.
It doesn’t weigh much, and it’s just a generic white “Happy Birthday” bag with gold trim, stuffed with pink tissue paper.
Taking the gift bag, I plop down on the bed next to Scott while Brett stands in front of us and the two of them watch me open my gift.
After I get the layers of tissue paper out of the way, I see something red in the bottom of the bag. Grabbing the fine material with my fingertips, I pull lingerie out of the bag.
It’s a gorgeous silk teddy with lace, and I love it.
“Wow! This is awesome, Scott. I love it,” I kiss him on the lips.
Holy hell.
Those lips! Oh my god! I’ve missed them so much.
“You’ve got another present,” Brett says, revealing a box.
“Where’d this come from?” I ask, taking it out of his hands.
“Oh, it’s been here. I was just being a gentleman letting Scott go first since he traveled so far,” he teases. “Open it up!”
Unwrapping the red bow around the box, I lift the lid and uncover a spectacular pair of fuck-me heels. They’re candy apple red with 6-inch spikes.
“Oh, I fucking love these!” I gawk at them.
They’re perfect.
“You know?” I say to them. “Why don’t you boys go out on the balcony and chat for a few minutes while I make myself more…presentable,” I smile at them, holding up my gifts.
“You don’t have to tell us twice,” Brett says, making his way toward the sliding glass door.
Once I’m finally ready, I take a glimpse of myself in the mirror and fix my boobs, so they look perfect in my new lingerie.
For turning 43, I look pretty damn fuckable.
I stride over to the bed and sprawl out on the duvet.
“Oh boys,” I call. “I’m ready and waiting.”
The smile on their faces tells me that we’re in for another fun night with a scorching threesome.
That’s it for this story but I have two free gifts just for you that is only available in this book!
