THE ROBIN AND THE KITTEN
*****
Christmas Verse
One snowy morning a robin woke up in her little bird nest with a stretch and a yawn she was ready to start a new day. But of course her best friend kitten was fast asleep in her fluffy kitten bed! “Oh never mind” said the robin “I will do my morning wake up call for her” she said, so she went up to her bird nest and did her morning wakeup call. She did it for a long time, she was getting puffed out! But at last she saw her little fluffy friend waking up with a fierce “Meow!” The robin Ruby got scared of that but Dimond the kitten always said sorry. But what ever happened they were best friends for every moment of life.
“Two days till Christmas” said Dimond, “I can’t wait!” said Ruby excitedly. “Snow ball fight!” said Dimond, so they rolled up some snow into some round balls and they got the snow ball party STARTED! They were having so much fun they forgot about breakfast, “Oh no”, said Ruby “we forgot about breakfast”, “Oh who cares” said Dimond and they got on with their snow ball fight. At last they got tired out and decided to make a snowman, they were absolutely covered with snow balls but they didn’t mind, that was all about Christmas!
“Let’s go back and wrap some presents” Dimond said, “You can come and wrap some presents at mine”, “Yes please”, said Ruby. So they both sang Christmas carols until they got there. They arrived at Dimond’s house, they found some wrapping paper and got started with the Christmas presents. “I’m bored”, said Dimond “Me too”, said Ruby. “Brainwave!” said Dimond “What!”, “We can make some Christmas paper chains”, “Oh yes, first lets open our advent calendar”, “I nearly forgot” said Ruby. After they opened it they made some red and green paper chains. After that they stuck some holly stickers on the beautiful red and green paper chains. They were so beautiful they both wept with happiness and they dried their tears away. “Do you think one day we might have a family?” asked Dimond, “I am sure we will” said Ruby. “Good” said Dimond, “let’s tidy up”... “Haven’t we finished” said Ruby. “Ummm, yes!”
They went downstairs for breakfast and what in the world do think they had – pancakes with maple syrup, fresh cream. It was sooo good! “What do you want on yours?” said Dimond. “Oh can I have maple syrup and cream”,“of course” said Dimond. After Dimond had finished baking them they both sat down and tucked into the feast of pancakes.
After they had finished they wrote in some cards. One said “Dear Sawdust, Merry Christmas. Miss you. Love Ruby and Dimond xx... “I like that card” said Ruby. “Come on” said Dimond, “its bedtime”, “oh yes” called Ruby from the lounge “do you want to stay for a sleepover” said Dimond “oh yes please” said Ruby excitedly. So they brushed their teeth and got undressed and hopped into bed. “This is my first sleepover” said Ruby, “lucky, lucky” said Dimond looking in the mirror and taking her mascara off and all her make up off. She got into bed and closed her eyes and Ruby too. But Dimond and Ruby were not tired!
So they got a book and read it for ten minutes, and then they were as tired as anything. So they went to sleep in their cosy beds “Good Night” they said together and fell asleep in no time at all. All the stars were twinkling in the pitch black sky. As it started to snow Ruby twitched her foot and Dimond twitched her nose and suddenly the cutest smile appeared on her face. “It’s morning” she screamed, Ruby nearly jumped out of her feathers “what what what, did you say”, “I said it’s morning” “oh that’s what you said” “come on lets go outside, tomorrow is Christmas” said Ruby.
So they both got on their Christmas clothes and got their Christmas mittens on as well. At last they found the right key for the key hole “look it’s snowing” said Dimond. “Yippee” said Ruby “shall we do some more snowball fights?” said Dimond. “Yeah good idea” said Ruby so they went outside into the freezing cold winter’s morning but they didn’t care. When Dimond wasn’t looking Ruby got a snowball and threw it right into Dimonds face “bullsie!” said Ruby “is that all you’ve got” said Dimond “yes” said Ruby, “I’m only a robin”. Now Dimond had a go it was a really good one. Poor little Ruby was covered in snow, she didn’t mind, that was what snowball fights were for. But she didn’t shake it off because she loved snow. They kept playing until a frosty breeze came zooming right into their faces.
“Shall we go back” said Ruby, “I think so” so they went home shivering. “Wanna come to mine again” said Dimond; “yes please” said Ruby. When they got to Dimonds house there was mail, it said “To Dimond, Laddingford Hutch, MLP 056, Phone number 0165089005210”. “Shall we open them” said Ruby “Okay” Dimond replied. So they opened the card it was from Chestnut Wadler. After they read it, they put it on the card shelf. “Who is Chestnut” asked Ruby, “He is a friend of mind” said Dimond “We met when I was ten and he was twelve”. “Ooh someone’s in love” said Ruby. “No I am not!” said Dimond “ok chill out” Ruby said. So they forgot all about it because they were having so much fun! They finished all their Christmas chores “phew!” they both said getting their sweat bands on, “that is hard work” said Dimond “oh no I forgot Chestnut is coming for a date”, so she ran to tidy the table, the chairs and all of the house.
Suddenly the doorbell rang, it was Chestnut “oh no” said Dimond. She opened the door and it was only the Post Man. Ruby and Dimond giggled and started to snort with laughter and the postman gave the mail to Dimond. They tore open the card and it said “Sorry Dimond, I can’t come I am going to a concert, Love Chestnut”. “Phew we can get messy again” said Ruby. As Ruby said it she heard her furry friend snorting with laughter, then Ruby joined in. Soon the house nearly shook “yikes I’ve got the hiccups”, “me too” said Ruby as they snorted and sniffed and started to laugh again “lets buy some flowers” said Ruby, “okay lets pick some” Dimond said. So they went outside and found the best flowers in their garden. “This one is beautiful” said Dimond.
At last they had a beautiful bouquet of pink, red, green, and yellow rainbow coloured flowers. They both went inside it was a very frosty house with a blazing, flaming, warming fire. As they sat down by the fire place they held out their little wings and paws and they both warmed up with the warmth of the fire. Suddenly the door burst open and a cold breeze flew right into the house. The wind was blowing hard and Ruby and Dimond tried to force the door closed. They both started a
t each other, the wind was blowing too hard, they both let go. This was a disaster! “Oh no it’s a snowstorm” cried Ruby. Suddenly the snowstorm stopped “that’s a miracle” said Ruby “at least it has stopped” “come on Ruby, its bedtime”. So they went to bed and shut their eyes ready for tomorrow, tomorrow was a big day, it was CHRISTMAS!
At last the two snuggly friends were woken up with a frosty breeze “its morning!” Ruby screamed in a rather loud voice. Now Dimond nearly jumped out of her fluff but she didn’t care it wasn’t so loud for her Robin friend wasn’t so loud so they hopped out of bed, brushed their teeth, got dressed in a big hurry because today it was Christmas “yippee” said Ruby “it’s Christmas” “I know” said Dimond.
They went outside and lay in the snow and made snow angels and finished their snowman, caught some snowflakes on their tongue. They pretended the snowflakes were chocolate, vanilla, caramel, mint “this is so fun” said Dimond “oh yeah” said Ruby “Look at the time, its lunchtime”, they went inside and had something to eat. Ruby had a ham sandwich and Dimond had a lettuce, ham, cheese and relish “don’t forget the tuna fish sandwich” “yummy scrummy” said Dimond.
After they finished their lunch the two furry friends curled up together and switched the TV on. They watched Dimond and Ruby Singing Show “wow, I can remember that day just like I am there” said Ruby. They both watched it for an hour and two minutes “It is Christmas Eve” said Dimond. They ran upstairs, zoomed into their pyjamas and rushed into bed and closed their eyes peacefully and fell fast asleep.
As the clock chimed midnight Santa came on his sleigh shining through the air and dashing through the snow and Rudolph shining his bright red nose through the darkness of the sky. Santa zoomed through the chimney of Dimonds house, ate the mince pie and drunk the milk, gave the carrot to Rudolph and dropped off the presents neatly under the glowing tree.
“Its Christmas morning” said Ruby they rushed downstairs and stared at the presents under the tree “Come on, let’s open them” said Dimond. They both unwrapped their presents “oh it’s the new cat food bowl I wanted “ said Dimond “look it’s the new movie I wanted “ said Ruby. After they had finished opening the presents they had pancakes for breakfast with maple syrup, cream and vanilla ice cream and they both lived safely together forever.
