“Do you think red eyes would match my hair?” he said, crossing his eyes as he looked to twirl a piece of his curled blonde hair. “I can’t seem to decide. But I guess there’s only one way to find out.”
Stunned, Bronwen stared, gawking at him in disbelief. “Are you saying yes?”
“I am,” he grinned. “I’ve thought about it...and my life in the Oldwood is over. It’s not like I won’t ever see my sister or Darius and his family again. They’d grow old and drift off to death in front of my eyes whether I was mortal or not.” Worming his hand underneath her, he rolled her on top of him, her body pressing into him. “Want to bite me now? Just so we can get it over with?”
“B-but, what about children?” she asked. “If we adopt some...they’d grow old and die before us.” Remus shrugged. “And the transformation isn’t instant. Parts of it are extremely painful.”
He blinked, “What comes in first?”
“Your red eyes instantly,” she said. “Pale skin will take another few days, fangs will take a week, and your body will elongate slightly over weeks.” She searched his eyes, looking for that speck of fear that all had before turning, yet she found nothing but confidence. “You haven’t even discussed it with your sister, or Darius.”
“I don’t need to,” Remus said. “It’s my decision. You asked me, and I realized it would definitely be an interesting experience...so, go ahead.” He rolled his head to the side, exposing his bare neck. “Don’t tell me you’re having second thoughts?”
Bronwen responded by biting into his neck, letting her fangs seep her power into his bloodstream. Remus winced, his eyes rolling back and jerking underneath her. Soon he stopped jerking and heaved in and out, and then Bronwen let go, her saliva dripping from her lips. She glanced down at Remus, waiting for him to open his eyes. Transformations didn’t always work, but most of the time they did. On the slim chance that Remus wouldn’t transform, he’d grow sick, and so Bronwen’s heart pounded as she waited, listening to him groan.
A moment later, his eyelids fluttered open, his eyes glowing bright red. “Did it work? Are my eyes red?”
Bronwen’s heart stopped, her mind focusing on those two red orbs staring up at her. The sky-blue hues were gone. “Yes...it worked. You’re technically a Vampire now.”
“Technically?”
“I already explained this to you...it’ll take weeks for your full physique to come into place,” Bronwen said.
Remus rolled her over once again, this time leaning over her and kissing her. “Well, this will certainly be a surprise to everyone back in the Oldwood,” he said after the kiss.
“There’s no reason to hurry to tell them, though,” Bronwen cooed.
“No reason to hurry,” Remus repeated, leaning down.
Finally, Bronwen thought. I’m not alone anymore.
