She sighed, relieved to know Nikki’s extra two days of hell hadn’t been in vain.

“Great move with the tracker, by the way,” he said. “I’m giving Percy the go ahead to create more.”

“Good.” She stepped back and smiled. It was gratifying to know something she’d helped create passed its field test with flying colors. “In fact, I have a few more ideas, having now actually been out in the field.” Although, staying in the lab held a little more appeal now, too.

Her father grinned. “Discuss them with Percy. I’d be interested in hearing your suggestions.”

After Sam zip-tied the still unconscious Rojas’ hands behind his back, he stood. Lisa wished Brooke had been able to drop in instead of flying the chopper or whatever had transported her father and Sam to the yacht. The Colombian bastard deserved the pin cushion treatment Excalibur had planned before Homeland got their mitts on him.

She blew out a breath and refocused on Sam.

Now that everything was over, she finally let her gaze linger on him. He stood near the doorway, his gaze on her now, full of all the things she was feeling inside, pain, love, pride.

She wasn’t going to see Sam anymore.

The realization hit her harder than Koslov’s fist. She didn’t want him to go. Didn’t want to not see him ever again. But the thought of putting him in danger was much worse.

And that was what kept her feet glued near the bar, otherwise, she would’ve made a beeline for him. Sort of like the determined stride he was making now…toward her.

“You okay?” he asked, fury emanating from him as he lifted a hand to gently touch her still stinging cheek. “Koslov?”

Lisa nodded, unable to talk past her hot throat caused by the intensity of emotions in his gaze and the way his body shook from his attempt at restraint.

  “Did he do anything else?”

She shook her head. No way in hell was she telling him about the kiss. He was liable to empty all his guns into the man’s dead body. And she wasn’t sure how he’d explain that to Homeland.

“You’re lying,” he said, gaze too damn shrewd. A slow smile spread across his face. “You know, Commander, I think it’s your daughter’s selflessness I love most about her.”

Lisa sucked in a breath, doubly shocked by Sam’s words. Not that he loved her, because, oh…she knew. He’d told her plenty of times, especially in the past twenty hours.

It was the fact he’d admitted it in front of her father. The very thing that had kept them apart the last five years.

Contrary to what she expected, her father’s face beamed. “’Bout damn time you said it out loud, son.”

She reeled back, staring slack jawed at her dad while Nikki’s soft laughter filled the room.

  “Sir?” Sam blinked.

Her father chuckled. “I didn’t realize the two of you had a past until I brought you to Camelot, Sam. Believe me, it was very obvious then.”

“And you don’t mind?” She stared at her father, her mind working to catch up. “You always sabotaged my relationships, especially if the guy was in the military.”

She glanced at Nikki for verification. The woman grabbing a bottle of water from behind the bar was well aware of the hell her father had wreaked on her social life a few years ago. But all she got was a smiling shrug from her friend. So, she turned her attention back to her dad.

His chin lifted, and blue gaze twinkled. “Hell yeah, I sabotaged them. That’s because they weren’t right for you. But Sam is.”

“I agree.” She twisted to stare into the SEAL’s gorgeous gray eyes. “I love him.”

She smiled, and tears streamed down her cheeks as Sam stepped close, cupped her face, and kissed her lips, his own mouth curved in a grin.

When he drew back, he set his forehead to hers. “I tried to walk away again, but I can’t. I’m just not strong enough to let you go again, Lisa. I love you too damn much.”

“I love you, too, Sam. And I didn’t want you to go.”

His hold on her tightened. “I know, and I also know you wouldn’t have stood in my way, either.”

“True. I don’t want to be the cause of you getting hurt.”

“You won’t, because I’m not staying in.” He drew back, gaze serious. “I hope you’ll stand by my decision to go back to my team while I ride out the rest of my time after I drop my packet.”

This time, she cupped his face. “Absolutely. Yes. Of course.” She sucked in a breath and blinked away a fresh round of tears. “I admire the hell out of you for sticking by your men until the end.”

“Me, too.” Her father stepped close to cup Sam’s shoulder.

She moved to the SEAL’s other side and slid her arm around his waist.

“I hope this means you’ll continue to be a Knight, just in a different realm, son.”

Sam straightened as he beamed. “Yes, sir. If you’ll have me, sir.”

Her father dropped his hand and stood back with a laugh. “Of course. Why do you think I sent Brooke to fetch you from Virginia Beach in the first place?”

“Speaking of Brooke,” Sam said. “I’m hoping to get her to agree to fly me to and from base between missions.” He glanced from her to her father. “What are my chances?”

“I’d say real good, especially if you give her a sword,” her father suggested.

“Yeah, and excellent if it’s a Japanese Katana,” Lisa added. “She collects them.”

She smiled up at him, afraid to close her eyes in case this was all a dream.

His breath hissed. “What are you thinking?”

“That I’m so lucky. This is real. You’re here. And you’re mine. My Knight. My SEAL.”

He brushed his thumb across her lips, his gaze full of the love she felt in his touch. “I’ve always been yours, Lisa. I’ve always been a Knight’s SEAL.”
