Bears were clumsy and big and he was so tired of trying to be careful all the time that in bed, he wanted to let loose. He wanted to be free. He wanted to be the bear he was.

“More,” Heather urged him once more, and that one word set him free.

Jake plunged into her deeply, thrusting to the hilt. She led out a cry and he set a relentless pace, biting her neck and pulling her hair and nipping at her ears.

Heather scratched at his back and then she was climaxing again, gripping him tightly. The sight of her orgasm was his undoing and Jake released too, allowing himself to feel everything.

He came hard and long, then held Heather until his heart finally slowed.

“I never knew it could be like that,” she murmured, and snuggled against Jake. Her head fit perfectly into the crook of his shoulder and he thought once again just how lucky he was to have finally found her.

  His mate.

  Epilogue

Two bear shifters ran through the forest. Staff Sergeant Jake Adams hadn’t been able to shift in days, but he’d finally found a few free hours when he could whisk Heather away to the forests that surrounded Forrest AFB. They ran together through the woods, bumbling and playing, until the hills became steeper and higher, turning from regular forest into the high mountain plains of northern Colorado.

Jake growled to show Heather where to go and she followed him close behind. They ducked around trees and climbed over rocks until the cold creek they’d been running beside turned into a large, cool lake.

He jumped in without hesitation and she followed. Though they were in bear form, he could imagine her laughing, could practically hear the sound inside his head.

Being a bear shifter wasn’t easy in a warm climate, but Jake didn’t control where the Air Force sent him. Luckily, Colorado was cool most of the year and had plenty of lakes and creeks and places to run and explore.

Today, Jake felt more relaxed than he had in years.

  Today he felt alive.

  He felt free.

The soft white fur of Heather’s body glistened in the water and she dove beneath the surface. She came back out and turned to him, and his heart filled with joy.

His mate had never been so perfect, so beautiful, so carefree.

  His mate.

Heather had completed his world, brought joy to his life, and he would spend the rest of his years showing her just how important she truly was.

She raised a paw, silently encouraging him to join her, and he didn’t wait another second. Jake hurried toward the water and dove in, ready to share an afternoon with Heather.

Ready to share everything with his mate.
