“Oh, Chelsea, I don’t deserve you, but I’ll take what I can get.” Then an inconvenient truth struck him.

“What is it?” she whispered. “You’re having second thoughts?”

“No. I’m thinking about supporting a wife. I mean, I’m going to have to give up the current book, which means I have to scrounge around for another topic, and it may be a few months before I get anything started.”

She kept her gaze fixed on him. “You can do the same book. Well, partly the same book.”

  “How?”

“Why don’t you make it an investigation of which supernatural claims are real? You can start with the Jenkins Cove ghosts.”

“That’s a fantastic idea. But would you really want me to write about what happened here?”

“Wouldn’t that give the book more authenticity?”

“Yes. But I don’t want to do anything that would upset you.”

She grinned. “I’m the one who suggested it, remember?” Before he could raise any more objections, she brought his mouth back to hers for a long, drugging kiss.

When he finally raised his head, he looked down at her and smiled.

  She looked a bit unsure.

  “What is it?”

“I know Aunt Sophie said she asked me back to Jenkins Cove to contact the ghosts, but she really does need help. Is it going to be a problem living here? I mean, no matter how you spin it, my aunt is a little nutty.”

“I’m adjusting. To the psychomanteum—and the fabulous baked goods. Besides, this would be a perfect place to write. Maybe I can even start that novel I told you about.” He grinned. “Which gives me another idea. If I sell my house in D.C., where the prices are sky-high, we’ll be rolling in cash.”

“Hold off on that until you’re sure.”

“I’m sure. The luckiest day of my life was the day I called to get a room here.”

“Lucky for both of us. We just had to work our way through some problems,” she answered.

He nodded and folded her close. “Is your aunt going to get worried if we don’t emerge from your room for the next two days?” he teased.

Chelsea laughed. “She’ll be okay with it. And I can send you out for food.”

  “You’re kidding.”

“I’m not sure. I’ll let you know in the morning,” she promised, then brought his mouth back to hers for a kiss full of passion and promises.
