One Wicked Night Page 14

by Avril Ashton

She wiped sweaty palms on her jean-clad thigh and glanced at Justice from the corner of her eye. As usual he was dressed in black, no sunglasses this time. His gorgeous face was the first thing she saw each morning, and the last thing she saw at night. It was the most beautiful sight.

He pulled the car into a parking lot and turned the car off. They were here. Her nerves ratcheted up to the sky.

"Nervous?” He offered her a small smile.

  Myka gulped. “Just a tad."

He laughed. “Don't worry, they don't all bite.” Getting out the car, he walked over to her side and opened the door. “Come on."

She took the hand he offered and exited the vehicle. Her fingers tightened around his as he slammed the car door and led her to the entrance of club Wik'd. Loud music pounded from the building. People milled about the parking lot, talking and laughing.

"Nice name,” she said. “Who came up with it?"

"When we met Sasha and Kingston they already had the club and the name.” Justice paused at the door and motioned her ahead of him. She stepped into a bustling room filled with people sitting both at the bar and at tables around the room.

Justice waved at the bartender but didn't stop. He led her across the room to a flight of stairs leading down. She raised an eyebrow. “The basement?"

He chuckled as she stepped down ahead of him. “Yeah, there are three levels—the regular dance club is upstairs, the bar is ground level and the basement is where you go if you want some quiet."

She descended the steep stairs mindful of her Zanotti heels. Justice placed a steady hand on her lower back. When they reached the bottom of the stairs, she stopped and stared. The space was wide, filled with billiard tables, a couple of red couches against each wall, and about six tables and chairs. Cigar smoke and conversation filled the room. A group of people sat at a table. Three men and two women who looked up as one when she and Justice approached.

"Well, well. Look who decided to put in an appearance.” A gorgeous bald guy with tattoos all over his scalp spoke. A tiny woman with pink bangs sat in his lap. She eyed Myka like a science experiment.

"Hey, J.” The pink-haired woman stood. She wore a black motorcycle jacket over a white tank top and gray jeans with pink paint splashed all over it. Gold booties with sky-high heels graced her feet. “Who's the skirt?"

"Damn it, Sasha will you sit down?” A man with a scar on his face and a ponytail addressed the woman. So that was the infamous Sasha.

Sasha flipped the scarred man the bird with a finger covered in black leather gloves. “Shut up, Rick."

Justice chuckled and grabbed Myka's hand. She twined their fingers and gave everyone a tentative smile.

"Everyone, this is Myka, I love her. Myka, this tiny woman is Sasha, more affectionately known as Nutso. Rick is really Maysin.” He pointed at the bald guy. “That's Niko, Sasha is his cross to bear. And the guy with the braids is Kingston. Next to him is Elina."

Everyone but Sasha waved or nodded. Myka swallowed under the woman's intense scrutiny, fighting the urge to squirm.

"This is my family,” Justice said. “They'll love you or I'll hurt them.” He pulled up chairs and motioned for her to sit.

"Zanotti, fall 2011 collection?” Sasha asked.

Myka nodded as everyone groaned. “Loboutins, winter 2011?” She raised an eyebrow.

"Fucking straight.” A wide smile broke out Sasha's face. “You know, Brooklyn, I'm liking you."

"And I you.” Myka perched on Justice's lap. He wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her close.

"I love you,” he whispered in her ear.

Myka kissed him. Happiness blossomed in her heart, full and all encompassing.

  She was home.
