I encourage those who struggle with MS, or any other invisible disease or difficult trial to seek out the positive people. My early years with this disease would have been incredibly different if I’d been willing to reach out to people who face what I face. I’m especially fond of friends I have made on Instagram and other online support groups. They’re the strong ones, and it has nothing to do with whether they use assistive devices or run or walk or tap dance. It has to do with the way they keep fighting no matter what. It has everything to do with the way they reach out for help when they fall. They understand strength in weakness and that you can show courage even when you’re afraid. I’m in awe of them and indebted to them for their willingness to share their story and the impact it has made on mine.
Don’t be afraid of what makes you different, or what feels weak. Lift someone else, be a fortress, stay strong and fight on.
