As I sat up to take a drink of my iced tea, I heard voices from just inside the back door. Josh’s father’s voice I recognized but the man he was raising that voice to I didn’t. I looked back, wondering what all of the commotion was but didn’t see anyone.

“Josh isn’t here.” Mr. Renshaw’s tone was short and direct.

  “Where is he?”

“He’s at the church if it’s any concern of yours.”

“I know you didn’t expect to see me so soon, but I’m here, and I’m staying to help Josh with the wedding. If it’s any consolation to you, I’m here for him, not you.”

“Well, I hope you don’t plan on staying here. I don’t need any trouble from you.”

“You have nothing to worry about! I’m really good at being invisible.”

The back door whipped open and I pushed myself back into my lawn chair, pretending I didn’t hear anything. A man walked past me, his arms moving as fast as his legs were. From what I could tell, he wasn’t anyone I knew. Watching his back as he walked around the pool, his black t-shirt, tattooed muscles, and denim jeans, I wondered if he was Josh’s brother. He flung the gate open as he left, not bothering to close it again. I glanced back at the door and then to the gate again.

“No,” I said, confused on what just happened.

I tried letting it pass, but the open gate was bothersome since it led out to the main road. I got up and walked around the pool to close it, adjusting my bikini as I walked. I peered outside the fence before pulling the gate closed, and I saw him. He was sitting on a big black motorcycle with his phone in his hand, and I hesitated. His black hair was naturally curly and a little longer than Josh’s. His arms were covered in tattoos, making me wonder how much a tattoo actually hurt. I’ve always wanted one but was too afraid to try. He was beautiful, in a bad boy sort of way and he aroused me just watching him.

I think I stared a little too long because when he looked up at me, I stumbled and almost tripped over myself getting back inside the fence. I swung the gate closed and walked swiftly back to my chair, my heart beating against the inside of my chest.

My eyes were glued to the gate as it opened. He walked back through it and stared at me the entire time it took for him to walk back around the pool to my side. I tried staying calm, but my labored breathing gave me away.

  “Hi,” I said quickly.

He just stood over me, his head blocking the sun from my face.

“I didn’t mean to, um… I was just closing the gate,” I stammered.

“Josh told me there would be some good looking ladies here, but he never mentioned you,” he said, kneeling by my side.

His voice was smooth, deep, gravelly and hit me in my core. I glanced at him,and his eyes were the deepest blue I had ever seen. They penetrated through me,and I caught myself staring at him again when he chuckled.

He held his hand out toward me and without hesitating, I took it. He kissed my palm and stood up, blocking the sun again.

“The women in LA don’t hold a candle to you.”

“Um, what?” I felt a flutter in my stomach.

  “You are fucking beautiful.”

I wanted to thank him for the compliment, but the way he said it, his words hit me like daggers, and he stepped to the side, causing the sun to glare into my eyes. I sat up quickly, closing my eyes momentarily. He sat behind me,and I felt his hands on my shoulders as he massaged them, his fingers digging deep. It felt incredible.

The warmth from his breath hit my ear,and I froze, afraid to move.

“I think we should get together. Oh, the things I could do to you.”

My breath caught, and I felt my pussy swell.

  “What do you think, sweetness?”

His hands stopped massaging and drifted down over my shoulders and down my arms. His touch was like electricity through my entire body. One small kiss on the top of my shoulder sent an inferno of flames into me. I couldn’t imagine what he could do to me beyond this.

“Think about it,” he whispered. “I’ll be in town until after my brother’s wedding.”

My eyes widened, and I froze. Hewas Josh’s brother!

“Is he still out back?” Josh’s voice carried from inside the house, and my mouth went dry. I jumped up and grabbed my towel, not bothering to give an excuse or an apology. I glanced at him as a grin formed on his gorgeous lips. I shook my head and ran around the pool on rubbery legs and left before Josh saw me.

  Chapter 4

Everything I did that day was with thoughts of Daemon. I couldn’t get him out of my head and the guilt I felt for sitting in that lawn chair, letting him touch me the way he did with the intentions he had, radiated through me. The only sensation that clouded my guilt was the desire I had for him to touch me again. Did he know who I was? Would he have put his hands on me if he knew I was his brother’s fiancee? I grinned, wondering what would happen if I let that minor detail stay hidden for a little longer.

I crawled into my bed after my phone call with Josh to say good night, and I ran my hands over my arms the same way Daemon did. Goosebumps formed on my skin when I remembered the warmth of his breath on my ear,and I sighed, craving his words again. Oh, the things I could do to you. His words repeated in my mind.

“Hmm, what would you do to me, Daemon?”

I moved my hands down over my stomach and imagined his hands there. It was his hands that cupped my breasts and pushed them together, his fingers that rolled my nipples sending sensations down through my stomach to my pussy. My mouth parted, a sigh escaping when a delicious arousal bubbled to the surface. I opened my legs, pulling my blankets to the center of my body, my thighs exposed to the air. My hand cupped my pussy, and I massaged it the way Josh did when we were playing around. He always made me feel good, but just the thought of Daemon doing the same thing unhinged me. I pushed my fingers into the folds of my pussy and moved them back and forth, circling my clit and moaning as my desire built. I breathed heavily, in and out, my chest heaving with every breath I filled my lungs with. I pushed my finger inside and pulled it out, my hips moving back and forth.

“Daemon,” I whispered, imagining him looming above me.

I pushed two fingers inside and felt the muscles of my vagina tighten around them. I stopped, waiting for my orgasm to calm so I could keep the tease going. I liked thinking about Daemon and what his body felt like against mine. My thumb circled my clit slowly, and my orgasm bubbled to the surface, warming me and making me squirm. I kept the slow pace until a large wave of pleasure towered over me encircled me and crashed into me. I kept playing until my body jerked at the sensitivity of my pussy. I slid my fingers into my mouth and sucked them clean, wrapping my legs around my blanket. I sighed, satisfied and sated, and blissfully fell asleep.

The next morning, I woke up late. I had half an hour to meet with Josh and his parents at their country club for breakfast. Plans for the wedding were underway, and this was the first of many meetings. I unwound myself from my blankets and jumped in the shower and was walking into the country club with five minutes to spare.

“Hi,” I said, walking up to the main desk.

Pablo smiled when he saw my face. “Good morning, Miss Sophie. You are looking well.”

I wanted to argue that point since my lack of time forced my hair up into a wet bun.

“Everyone is here and waiting in the left wing. Would you like for me to escort you?”

“No, Pablo. Thank you. I can find it.”

  “Very well. Enjoy your breakfast.”

I walked through the main hall and into the left wing stopping only after I saw Daemon sitting next to Josh. My eyes about fell out of my head. He smiled and stuffed a piece of a roll into his mouth, chewing as he held his devious smile.

“Hello, everyone,” I said with a strong upper chin. “I’m sorry if I’m late. I overslept.”

“That’s perfectly fine, dear,” said Mrs. Renshaw. “Come, sit.”

I sat across from Daemon since it was the furthest from h
im I could get, but I regretted it the moment he made eye contact with me. Josh stood up and walked around the table just for a kiss on my cheek and a morning greeting.

“So, this is the infamous Sophie Precourt,” said Daemon, stuffing another piece of roll into his mouth.

He stood up and reached across the table for my hand. I awkwardly looked around at the others, and they were all waiting for me to be polite and take his hand. When I did, he slipped his fingers along my palm and held me firmly, causing a shiver to run along my arms.

“I have to say, you did well, little bro.”

“I think so.” Josh’s face beamed with pride. “Sophie, this is my brother, Daemon. Daemon, Sophie.”

“I feel like we’re family already,” he said sheepishly.

The entire morning was awkward as I dodged flirtatious glances from Daemon and thwarted his foot away from my leg under the table. By the time I stood up to leave, my underwear were soaked, and my palms were sweaty.

“We should go out tonight, the three of us.” Daemon pushed himself between Josh and I as we walked out to the sidewalk, his arms going around our shoulders.

“I don’t know,” I said, hoping Josh followed my lead. “We have so much to do to get ready for the wedding.”

“Well, since I’m here to help, you won’t have as much to do. Tonight, we celebrate!”

“Sounds good to me,” chimed Josh.

“Great,” he growled, pulling me in closer.

What was I doing? I needed to tell Josh about his brother. As soon as Daemon climbed on his motorcycle and left the country club, I had the perfect opportunity. Josh’s parents were still inside, and we were alone while we waited for his car. But I didn’t say a word.

  Chapter 5

I faked sick to get out of the night on the town with Josh and Daemon, thanking God that I did after seeing how bad Josh looked the next morning. I fed him water and Gatorade with medicine and lots of salty french fries. As soon as he fell asleep again, I left. In fact, I made myself scarce from being around Josh and his family as much as I could, planning most of the wedding by phone and doing a lot of the running around. I still thought about Daemon when I was alone in the shower, or late at night in my bed, but the desire was fading, andas long as I steered clear of him, I would be fine, or that’s what I kept telling myself.

“He’s going back to wherever he came from after the wedding. I just need to get through until then,” I told my best friend on the phone. I plopped down on my bed and closed my eyes as Jessica talked to me.

“I can’t imagine having to deal with that. You know how sexual I am with Brantley. We do it everywhere, and every chance we get. How you are still a virgin is beyond me. And now you have to deal with Josh’s older, sexy, bad boy brother?”

“I know. It’s not easy, especially when he gets so close. He smells so damned good, and the way he looks at me….”

  “You’re doing it again.”

“Ugh!” I slammed my fists down on the mattress.

“Do you have to be around him?”

“I’ve been doing a good job avoiding everyone, but Josh is insisting that I stay in the guest house the night before our wedding. He is having a full make-up staff ready and at my beck and call.”

  “Are you going to?”

“I don’t see how I can get out of it. It sort of puts me in the middle of everything, and if Daemon knows I’m there….”

“Do you want me to comestay with you? We can have a girls night in.”

  “Oh, could you?”

“Of course! I’m your maid of honor. I’d do anything for you. I’ll stay with you and keep you safe from all of the big bad penises coming to get you.”

I giggled at her rendition of the situation. “Thank you, Jess. You’re the best. I just don’t want to be put in an awkward position where I’ll have to turn him down. I love Josh, and the last thing I want is for him think there is something between his brother and me.”

  “I completely understand that.”

“Thank you for letting me vent about this. I’ve tried talking to Josh, but I just don’t know how to bring it up.”

“He’s too close to the situation anyway. It’s probably best you don’t say anything. It’s not like you fucked Daemon or anything.”

Just the sound of it made my insides quiver.

The night before our wedding, I packed an overnight bag and nervously drove to the guest house behind Josh’s parent’s house. It was oddly quiet,so I snuck around to the back and parked. When I got settled, I unzipped my wedding dress and pulled it from its bag. Holding it up to my body, I went into the bedroom and looked in the full-length mirror, proud of where my life was headed.

“Tomorrow, you will be Mrs. Sophie Renshaw.”

I loved the sound of my new name but felt a twinge of guilt when I realized Daemon’s name was also Renshaw.

  “Mrs. Joshua Renshaw.”

A knock on the door startled me,and I walked into the living room, stopping halfway. My heart rate quickened, and I clutched my dress to my chest when the door opened. Josh walked in and smiled when he saw me.

  “Josh!”

I ran back into the bedroom and threw my dress on the bed. He met me at the bedroom doorway and looked at the dress.

‘You’re not supposed to see it before the wedding! Stop!”

“Oh, that’s just a bunch of superstitious stuff. You should put it on and let me see you in it.” He wrapped his arms around me and kissed me. “I bet you look hot.”

“Well, you’ll have to wait to find out tomorrow when I walk down that aisle.”

“Mmm, I can’t wait to make you my wife. I’ve missed you so much.”

“Only one more day, then we’ll be together so much you’ll get sick of me.”

“I doubt that will ever happen.”

His arms around me made me feel safe, comfortable. “I love you,” I said, looking up at him. “But, you have to go. Jessica will be here soon, and we have a ton to do.”

I pushed him out of the bedroom and toward the front door.

  “Are you making me leave?”

  “I am.”

I planted a hard kiss on him and opened the door.

“I will see you when I walk down that aisle tomorrow.”

“Okay,” he pouted. “I’ll go if I must.”

  “Sweet dreams, sweet man.”

I closed the door and watched as he walked back toward the main house.

  “Speaking of, where are you,Jessica?”

I called her phone and left her a text message, andfinally, after I was about to give up, my phone received a text. It was from Jessica’s phone, but it was not from her.

Jessica has become indisposed this evening. She apologizes but will not be able to assist you in your time of need. She will see you first thing tomorrow. Good luck and congrats. Brantley.

“Great,” I said, throwing my phone down on the bed. “While I’m imprisoned here, she’s having amazing sex with her boyfriend.”

I pulled the bottle of wine I picked up to celebrate with her and opened it, plopping down on the couch and turning on the television. It only took a couple of glasses, and I was out cold.

  Chapter 6

I woke up the next morning still on the couch. I stood up and stretched, feeling really good. I made it through without any problems from Daemon and now it was time to get ready to become Josh’s wife. I threw Jessica a text to find out when she was meeting me before turning on the shower.

Be there around eleven. I have a few last minute errands to do.

  Sounds good. See you then.

A short but sweet text from Josh came through right after Jessica’s,and it made me smile.

I can’t wait to see you. Two o’clock can’t get here fast enough.

I took an extra long shower then wrapped my towel around me and went into the kitchen to make coffee. When the aroma filled the air, there was a knock on the door. I smiled and danced through the living room.

  “It
s not two o’clock yet,” I said as I opened the door.

My heart fell into my stomach when I saw Daemon standing there.

  “No, it’s not.”

  “Daemon,” I breathed.

I threw my arms over my chest and pulled the door toward me.

  “Good morning.”

  “What do you want?”

He inhaled deeply and looked past me. “A cup of that delicious smelling coffee to start. How about you invite me inside?”

  His voice was so smooth.

  “I, can’t do that.”

“Why not? You can’t control yourself around me?” he asked, leaning toward me.

  “Excuse me?”

He was right, but who was I to let him think so?

“You’re going to be my sister-in-law in less than six hours. You should know that I’m quite the jokester.”

“Funny. Listen, I really have to start getting ready.”

He pushed the door open and walked past me with no regard to what I had said.

“What the hell are you doing?”

He disappeared into the kitchen, leaving me holding the door. I closed it when I heard coffee cups clinking together, and I ran into the kitchen.

“Daemon. This isn’t a good idea.”

He held two cups of freshly poured coffee up and cocked his head. “Coffee is always a good idea, especially with a little kick.”

He set one down across the counter and pulled a flask from his pocket. He poured a little in my cup and a good amount in his before taking a sip. I slowly approached the counter and picked up my coffee cup, walking back into the living room. I pulled the curtain back and looked out toward the main house.

“Josh had to go to the reception hall. Something about straightening out some issues before the wedding.”

He stood so close behind me I could feel his breath on the back of my neck. When his hands moved up my arms, I knew I needed to say something and shut him down before it was too late. I could already feel an arousal between my legs.
