Out of the Fire Page 5

by H Holmquist

I dropped Steven off at his house so I could clean up and get some sleep before the barbeque tonight.

“I'll see you around 5 when I pick you up” he said as he leaned over and gave me a can’t-wait-to-do-that-again kiss and he climbed out of the truck. I hated seeing him go but I needed to take a shower and get a little bit of sleep.

I didn't get a mile down the road before Tiffany called.

I wasn't even able to say hello “Oh you have to tell me! Oh my gosh!” Tiffany was bursting with excitement on the other end. I laughed into the phone “I don't know what you mean” I tried to sound innocent but didn't work.

“Steven walked in with his shirt on backwards with a huge smile on his face as we heard your truck leave. Ah, this is so exciting!” I laughed and just absentmindedly listened to her gushing on how happy she was for me and Steven.

I pulled into my driveway and happily climbed out of my truck “Tiff, I got to go, but I’ll see you later tonight” as I hung up and I looked at my phone and laughed. I’m going to get bombarded tonight, as I made my way to the door. I unlocked it and stepped inside, I let out a gasp of air as pain radiated from the back of my head and everything went black.
