Sell Your Story in Single Sentence Page 15

  Acknowledgments

I’D LIKE TO START BY THANKING THE BRAVE SOULS who have not only attended my lectures and seminars but who had the courage to stand up and read out their desperately-needs-help loglines in front of everyone else. Some of you may recognize yourselves in this book, and I just want to acknowledge and applaud you for both your fearlessness and your impressive commitment to making your work the best it can be.

In addition, I also could not have written this book without the ongoing support of my husband, Andrew Bishop, who basically took over the rest of my life for me during the times when I had to stop everything else and just focus on getting words on paper. It’s not something I take lightly because I always have a ridiculous number of other things going on—yet somehow, he handled it all flawlessly. I am incredibly grateful for all you do for me, Andy—and now it’s in writing, for you to reference when I forget to say it out loud.

I’d also like to acknowledge my good friend and amazing agent, Katharine Sands, at the Sarah Jane Freymann Literary Agency, who truly brought Sell Your Story in a Single Sentence to life. She’d seen my workshop about how to create a perfect logline and believed that with all of the information I was giving out, a book could be born. And after I delivered, she worked tirelessly to find the perfect publisher for my material. Saying “thank you” seems incredibly inadequate, especially now when it’s coming to full-blown fruition, but I am so grateful to Katharine for being the tenacious, encouraging, and creative lady that she is. I am lucky to have her in my corner.

Thank yous should also go to my editor, Ann Treistman, as well as Becca Kaplan, Sarah Bennett, and Devorah Backman at W. W. Norton & Co., who all supported this book in unimaginable ways.

Finally, thank you to Melissa Biederman, my brother Bret Shefter, and my parents Joy and Milt Shefter who are always cheering me on, even when they think I am piling too much on my plate. A support system like that is truly worth its weight in gold.
