Dearly Departed Page 16

by Carly Winter

I glanced over my shoulder at Donna who had laid her head back against the cushions and closed her eyes. Neither of us had enough energy to jump back on a plane, and I wished I’d never answered. “What can I do for you, Linda?”

“Well, I wanted to let you know that customer that was trapped in the lavatory… what was his name… Samuel Jones. He’s resting comfortably in the hospital and he’ll be released tomorrow.”

“Oh, thank goodness,” I said, sighing. “I’m so glad to hear it.”

Despite my run-in with Mrs. Wilson, I had been wondering about Sweaty Sam.

“Yes. We all were. Have a lovely night, dear.”

I hung up the phone and relayed the news to Donna. “That’s good,” she replied with a yawn as she stretched her arms over her head. “Do you mind if I take the bed tonight?”

“Well, I’d really like to talk to you about—”

“Patty, I don’t want to hear it, okay? I know I shouldn’t have been drinking on the plane. Spare me the lecture.”

I bit my lip and stared at her for a long moment, then motioned toward the bedroom. “Go ahead and take it. Maybe we can discuss things tomorrow.”

Donna snorted and shook her head, then waltzed into the bedroom, leaving me alone with my thoughts. With a groan, I stretched out onto the couch. A moment later, Ringo jumped up and sat on my stomach. Shutting my eyes, I caressed his head.

The killer had been caught. By me.

For the time being, I’d been promoted to the front of the plane.

I’d met an FBI agent who interested me, but I wasn’t quite sure if it was because of his career, or his dreamy green eyes.

Things were going pretty well, and I expected my life to return normal.

Certainly, there couldn’t be any more murders to solve… right?

Will Donna straighten herself out, or will it only lead to more trouble? And what about Bill and Patty? Does he really have feelings for her?
