As were the changes in him over the past several weeks. He was content, relaxed, and carefree.
After meeting with his birth mother last week, there was an assuredness to him she hadn’t seen in almost five years. It was sexy as sin. But more than that, it was a gift to his wellbeing. Discovering the whole truth about his adoption and that his mother hadn’t abandoned him went a long way toward healing the wounds that had festered inside him.
“Happy?” he asked, hugging her close to him.
She tilted her head where it was cradled in the crook of his arm and met his warm gaze. “Very,” she replied, skimming her palm over his chest. “You?”
“Affirmative.” He trailed his fingers down her arm. “I’ve been thinking about baby names.”
Abby’s heart skipped a beat and warmth spread through her chest.
Since the day of the high-speed car chase, Cooper had become excited he was going to be a father. She was so completely blessed.
“Me, too.” She smiled up at him. “If it’s a girl, how do you feel about the name Mindy?”
Not only had Mindy been her best friend, but Abby truly believed the woman had been instrumental in connecting her and Cooper from beyond the grave.
He tightened his hold on her and grinned. “Perfect.” He exhaled and she could feel his heartbeat quicken under her palm. “And if it’s a boy, do you like James?”
Now her heartbeat increased, and tears burned her eyes. That was the exact name she’d had in mind. “Yes. Perfect.”
Cooper cupped her face with both hands and gently drew her up to kiss her, slow, sweet, and tender, but then their connection took over and the kiss turned heated and hungry.
And as Abby gave into the passion only Cooper could incite, she thanked her lucky stars—and Mindy—for all her blessings, and was grateful for the day she’d fulfilled her bucket list.
