She knelt next to them, placing a hand on each of their wrists, and then delved into the grove to feel the magic of the grove rise up. As it did, she fed it into Lex and Amelie helping them bridge the divide between them and feel each other’s feelings. Given that she was the bridge, she could feel their love. In Amelie, there was anger and hurt—a lot of it. With it, Scarlett felt hero worship and adoration. She felt moments of intense loneliness where all she wanted was her Daddy and the aching pain of having been abandoned by her mother.
But in Lex—it was regret for moments lost, it was fierce joy in the good times, and it was an unequivocal tide of love. Not even a tide, but a flood of it. Scarlett could have drowned in that love, that determination to be better this time—it was repentance for what had gone before. He had changed. Scarlett had no doubt that he adored his daughter and would be an excellent father to her.
“Oh,” Scarlett said. “Oh.”
And like that, with one breath, she fell, face down, full and completely into love.
