Daniel Returns

  ~~~~~
  On the beach, Daniel felt Jen’s traumas as if it was his own. He orbed to the door and opened it to find her there possessed by the Shadow. Daniel started to speak, but stopped as he felt the last bit of life draining form Jen.
  There was a still a sign Jen was alive, as she tried to fight against the Shadow that possessed her. As the creature walked towards him, Daniel jumped back. He couldn’t strike without hurting Jen and the Shadow knew it. As Jen moved around the voice of the enforcer came from her mouth.
  “Your final challenge is at hand. If you are as strong as you pretend to be, strike me down and let us end this.”
  “You know I won’t hurt her. How did you take Jen, she was not ready to die? Did you take her by force?”
  “No, she was given as a gift.”
  As the words came from Jen’s lips, Elizabeth orbed to Daniel’s side. She had been watching how it was all about to play out. The Shadow was in violation of the rules. The Guardians of the light were not going to let this happen.
  “Daniel back off, this isn’t your fight anymore.” Elizabeth commanded him.
  “Someone killed Jen to bring this thing here. I want to know who.” Daniel demanded to know.
  “It was Raven and her creature. You turned it loose and she turned it into a play thing to do her bidding.” The Shadow laughed.
  “How do we save her? There has to be a way.” Daniel screamed at Elizabeth.
  “Daniel she is dead and I do not have the power to resurrect her.”
  “Then, I will heal her. Just get this bastard out of her.” Daniel demanded.
  “She’s dead already. There is nothing we can do.” Elizabeth tried reason with him.
  As they argued back and forth the Shadow moved backwards and started to shake. As it moved Daniel could read Jen more and more. She was trying to take control. Her life force was weak but not dead yet. She raised her head and took full control if only for a minute.
  “Daniel, if you love me. Kill me. Don’t let this go on. Don’t let them win. This is about so much more than me. I love you.” Tears ran down Jen’s face as she held control over the shadow.
  Daniel screamed in pain as he turned towards her and tried to unleash his energy but nothing happened. He did not have the heart to kill the one he had loved so much. She was the one who rescued him and gave him his life back. He would rather forfeit his own than allow her to suffer.
  “I give in. Take me into the light. Leave her body and take me.”
  The shadow looked at him. “Agreed that is within the guidelines, I accept payment.”
  The creature moved from Jen as Daniel looked at Elizabeth. “Heal her, you can do it, she is still in there.”
  Elizabeth ran to Jen and held her hands above Jen’s heart and a light engulfed her whole body. As the light penetrated her skin, Jen started to heal. As she worked, Elizabeth watched the Shadow taking hold of Daniel and leading him to an open portal of light. As Jen looked back to Daniel, she blinked her eyes and returned from the void she had been placed in.
  Jen sat up and braced herself as she saw Daniel being led away. She turned to Elizabeth. “You have to stop this. They broke the rules by claiming me as a shadow zombie.”
  “There is nothing I can do. They were unknowingly accomplices in taking you over. Raven was the one who put them in this situation. That is one thing I will make sure she pays for.”
  “Can the Elders do anything to help Daniel?”
  “No...Well maybe they can.” Elizabeth disappeared in a shaft of light reaching to the sky.
  Jen jumped up and ran after Daniel. As he was about to enter the light, she reached him. Her eyes filled with tears, she could only say one thing. “I love you always.” The Shadow looked back at her and bowed his head. He was soulless and the sentiment was wasted, but it meant everything to Daniel.
  As the swirl of wind wrapped around him, the light grew brighter. Daniel had fought so hard to come back from the dead. He survived so much only to end up back at the light just as before. As he was about to step into the light Elizabeth returned appearing at his side. “Daniel do you remember we had a conversation once and I told you it was always your choice? You are about to be given a choice again. Everything is about to change.”
  Daniel understood her message and he walked into the light freely this time. There was no force and no fighting. He embraced the light. His fight with the Shadows was done. Back on the beach Jen felt the pain she had suffered not that long ago. It was as if history was repeating itself. Elizabeth tried to comfort her, but Jen was sure she had lost Daniel for the last time.
  Afterwards
  As Daniel walked through the hallway of the light, he looked into the rooms that surrounded him on both sides. He was allowed to see scenes from his past, things that might have been and some that never happened at all. He passed by one room, and he saw Jen. Not as she was when he left her, but years older. She was holding a baby in her arms. As he watched and older version of himself came into the room, they kissed and played with their baby together. Daniel’s heart almost stopped as he realized it was what he had always wanted.
  As he turned away and walked further, he looked into a room where the world was in turmoil, a place where angels had been killed off by demons and the dark ruled. He remembered his dream. He was seeing things that were coming. This world he dreamed, would someday be real, and Jen would be stuck in it. Fear ran through his body, as he realized there would be no one there to protect her. Jen was alone now.
  When Daniel reached the end of the hall, one last open door faced him. He walked inside. As he looked around there was nothing. Before him was only a huge white room, with no images, no furniture, and no life.
  “Hello, is anyone here?” He asked.
  “Of course, someone is here. You are!” The voice boomed around him.
  “Why am I here? What is happening?” Daniel asked.
  “You are here, because things do not always happen perfectly. You escaped the light and became human. A feat no undead person should be able to do, but you did. Then you survived the Shadow enforcers which no one is supposed to do.”
  “Well actually I didn’t. I came freely to save Jen. She was an innocent claimed by a demon in this whole situation.” Daniel interjected.
  “I am aware. I see everything. If the rules had been observed, you would have won this last battle. But someone tampered with and changed the rules of the game. The side of evil was hoping for you to lose, so in the end they would win.” The voice continued.
  “I don’t understand one thing though. I thought we had already had seven shadows when the man fell from the light house. How was there an eighth one?”
  “There wasn’t...The car that crashed by you at the bus station, was merely an accident. You had another Shadow come so closely behind, that you confused the warning of its coming with what happened.”
  “How do you know all this?” Daniel asked.
  “Because my son, I created all this. Good and evil, dark and light were all things I brought about.”
  “Wait you mean you are......?” Daniel’s voice trailed off.
  “I have been called by many names, and worshiped in so many ways. And most of them were wrong by the way. But I do keep tabs on what goes on. You are quite a unique person, so full of potential to help others. You can stop this darkness that is coming. It is already at the doorstep and ready to come in, but you have been through so much. Life...then death...then life again as a white lighter. All this...then for you to have witness Jen’s death and rebirth, it was more than should be asked of you.”
  “I survived it all. And yet I am still here, standing before you being judged. I have only done good in life.”
  “Yes, you have and for that, you have earned a special privilege. You will be allowed to decide your own fate. Do not take this lightly; it has never been done before. Think of what you are being offered and what your options are. You could be a mere human or a white lighter again. You cou
ld even ascend and have unlimited abilities as a full angel. When you are ready, I will await your answer.”
