Chapter 20
Togtulir
Now that I’ve released the prisoners and returned them safely back to their home planet, I feel as if an enormous weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Looking down, I read over the speech I had typed up and printed out.
I took a deep breath, adjusted my bow tie on my expensive tuxedo suit. With my head held high and shoulders tall, I walked into the grand ballroom of the palace.
When I entered into the spotlight on the stage, I was immediately greeted by the roaring cheer of the crowd in front of me. I beamed with emotion and pride that I was the ruler of this phenomenal planet of good-doing, easy-living people.
I placed my hands up to gesture for the noise to subside. I caught a glimpse of my beautiful bride-to-be at the front and center of the crowd, made up of my beloved friends and family members.
She was now an intricately, ensconced part of my life, and right now I was enjoying the gracious and welcoming standing ovation that was currently being given for me. She was right there with them, clapping her hands with powerful exuberance.
“Thank you, dear friends and family, for gathering here with us on this exquisite summer evening. As you know, I will marry Cindy Jameson tomorrow.” I pointed in her direction with pride, and she stood up and gave a wave to the crowd behind her. Her perfect white teeth were shining through her smile.
“I can’t wait for the festivities to begin. I appreciate every one of you for your support during my transition as your leader. As most of you probably already know, I have released every prisoner that was held captive here on Cardalph. I plan to move this planet in a new direction, full of love, light, and freedom. Thank you again for being a part of our journey.”
I gave a little bow and the crowd erupted into cheers once again. After some wine and dancing, along with playful and lively chatter with our guests, I began to feel the pangs of hunger. I went to the buffet where there was a lavish spread of food for every palate placed upon tables with servants ready to place whatever you desired onto your plate.
The wedding planner I had hired had gone above and beyond any expectation, Cindy and I had ever imagined. As one of the servers placed some of the delicious and fresh-looking shrimp and lobster onto my plate as I requested, I felt someone tap me on the shoulder.
I turned around to see who it was. “Drozalia! What a pleasant surprise to see you here.” I gave her a hug with my free arm.
Drozalia gave me a tiny half-smile. “Togtulir, is it possible that I may speak to you in private?”
“In private?” I looked around, curious as to why she would want to speak to me in private. Especially, after our last encounter at my house when I had told her to stay away from Cindy. I was even more astounded that she had the guts to show up at a party where Cindy would be fully visible, meeting and greeting our guests.
“It won’t take long, I promise.” She placed a hand on my arm suggestively. I looked down at it and she removed it hastily.
“Uh, I guess so. Well, actually, why don’t we find a spot to sit down and I can eat my dinner. I’m kind of starving right now.” I shrugged at her sheepishly.
“That’s fine,” she responded quietly and looked around. I assumed to determine whether Cindy was within eye or earshot of hearing our conversation. I wasn’t sure if she had come tonight to anger me and to make Cindy jealous, but I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt since I had grown up so close to her.
We went and sat down at an empty table. I began popping shrimp into my mouth like they were candy. I had not eaten all day due to nerves about this night before the wedding tomorrow. I wanted to make sure everything was perfect for Cindy, and now I knew that her dreams had been fully delivered.
“So, what are you up to lately, Drozalia?” I tried to tread lightly with her at first.
“Oh, nothing much. Just helping daddy at the company every once in a while, you know. Same old. Same old.” She smiled and scratched her lip.
I nodded and swallowed a bite of food. “That sounds good. I’m pleased to hear that you are doing well and that you had the courage to come here tonight.”
Drozalia’s eyes darkened at my comment. “Oh, I meant nothing harmful by that Drozalia, you must know.” I raised a hand as if to let her know I was not out to spit fire at her in any way, certainly not on the night before my wedding.
“I came here tonight to say goodbye, Togtulir.” Her facial features became sad, tired.
“Goodbye? I don’t quite understand.”
She sighed with the weight of a million tons on her shoulders. “Togtulir, it’s no surprise now to you that I’ve been in love with you for my entire life. You never saw me as anything more than a friend, and I understand that now. I have even made my peace with that. But I cannot sit idly by and watch you marry another woman. The thought simply breaks me to my core.”
“I’m sorry to hear that, but I also understand and respect your decision. I appreciate your honesty and your dignified way of handling this and being so calm and peaceful. I know that it must be hard for you.” I felt sympathy for Drozalia in that moment. I touched her hand warmly and began to stand up, so I could go converse with other family members who had traveled far distances to be here for the wedding.
“Togtulir, uh, I’m not actually finished. Please, sit back down.”
Growing impatient, I did as she asked, but looked around to make sure that there was no hint of suspicion rising from anyone around us.
“I’m just going to come out and say it. I’m leaving Cardalph, Togtulir. I’m leaving in a shuttle going to Belklin in the morning.
I started at Drozalia in disbelief. Belklin was a nearby planet to the left of Cardalph. You could get there by shuttle in about twelve hours. Due to their laws on neighboring planets, not many people were able to visit the planet unless they were given permission for a job there.
“How are you being allowed to enter?”
“My father actually does business with a man there. He needed a personal assistant. Enter Drozalia.” She pointed to herself and grimaced as if it surprised even her that she was going to work for someone.
“Drozalia, this is bittersweet. On one hand, I’m very proud of you. On the other hand, I know I’ll miss you. You’ve been a part of my life since I was little.”
“I’ll miss you too, Togtulir. I wish you a lifetime of happiness. I have confidence in your ability to rule Cardalph with a lot of grace and kindness. It’s just too painful to watch you marry another woman.”
She placed her hand on my cheek and for a moment, I felt paralyzed at her show of affection. “Goodbye, Togtulir,” she whispered into my ear and stood up in a flash. Before I knew what happened she had disappeared into the crowd of people and was gone.
When I looked up, Cindy was staring at me in her lovely silver gown that accented her blue skin perfectly. She walked over to me with confusion furrowing her brow.
“What was that about?”
“Nothing, darling. Drozalia was saying goodbye to me. She’s leaving in the morning for a job on another planet.”
“Oh. Are you all right?”
I gazed up at my amazing wife to be. It was her nature to be concerned for others before herself, and that’s why I loved her so much. “Yes, I’m just perfect.” I picked her up by her hips and spun her around. The bottom of her gown flowed as we twirled and laughed together. We were going to ride this current of life together and I couldn’t wait to get started.
Chapter 21
Cindy
I could hear the violinist playing from the quiet dressing room I had been standing in. I breathed in and out. I was about to walk down the sand colored aisle in a traditional wedding to my new groom. I checked my hair and readjusted my veil in the mirror. “Here goes nothing,” I murmured to myself and grabbed my bouquet of blue hydrangeas.
We had brought everyone to the private island. As soon as I walked out into the perfect summer day with the ocean in front of me, everyone stood and turned t
o look at me from the white chairs they had been sitting in.
At that moment, my eyes filled with tears. They were here for me, to watch me walk down the aisle in my beautiful, vintage princess gown. I felt like Cinderella, only this time I didn’t have to go home at midnight and my carriage wouldn’t turn into a pumpkin at the end.
I spotted Togtulir in his handsome tuxedo, glowing with pride, hands folded together at his sides. I began to walk slowly because I never wanted this moment to end. It was divinely magical, and I wanted to absorb all the faces that were looking at me in adoration.
Once I got close enough to Togtulir to see his face, I noticed that his eyes were also glistening with tears, which made my heart nearly leap out of my chest with love for him. “Hi,” he mouthed to me and gave me a tiny flicker of a wave, which I returned.
We stood under a magnificent cedarwood altar, with the most astounding and elaborate carvings of doves, hearts, and roses handcrafted into it. I basked in this moment and then met Togtulir’s gaze.
The wedding officiant spoke first. “Friends and family, thank you for gathering here today on this beautiful afternoon to celebrate the union of matrimony. Cindy and Togtulir stand before you all, ready to profess their love for one another. This is a truly wonderful time.” He was wearing robes of sand and green colors, to match our beach theme, which I thought was an intricate detail not lost on our amazing wedding planner Vaneti.
“Togtulir, would you like to state your vows first?” The officiant looked at Togtulir, who took his hands into mine. They were big and warm.
“Cindy,” he began. “When I met you, I fell in love with your kind soul. I wanted to fix your broken spirit. You have so much love and compassion to sprinkle all over the world. With this ring, I offer you my heart and my hand in marriage. I am ready to be your loyal and loving husband.”
Through a blur of joyful tears, I reached out my left hand so he could place the wedding ring upon my finger where the engagement ring was already being worn. Now it was my turn to exchange my own vows to him. “Togtulir, you have been the only person in my entire life who has not only loved me unconditionally, but you have also taught me how to love.
Before I met you, I was a mess. I had struggled to find my place in the world and I was never able to accept myself for who I really was inside. You’ve helped me bubble all those pent-up frustrations to the surface and work through them. I can’t imagine spending my life with anyone other than you. With this ring, I bind us in matrimony forever.”
A single fat tear rolled down Togtulir’s cheek. With a shaky hand, I got the ring on his enormous finger. The officiant spoke again. “I now pronounce you husband and wife.” With violins playing and people cheering in the background, I kissed my new husband with the most passion I had ever felt.
Once we had finished taking pictures with our photographer, we arrived at a seaside hideaway that Togtulir had built on the island, just to be used for tonight. It was indoors but contained wall to wall windows so the spectacular panoramic island views could be seen no matter where you were in the building.
It was packed to the brim, full of people ready to celebrate with us. A band played on a stage while people danced with merriment on the floor below. There were people in animated conversation, drinks in hand.
I had never felt so much love in one place in my entire life. Once the crowd saw Togtulir and me enter, they erupted into cheers. An uncle of his tapped a fork against the side of a glass, hushing the crowd. Togtulir began his speech, thanking everyone for coming. He placed his hand on the small of my back and kissed me, making the sparks of love fly between us. He ended his speech by saying that he hoped to start a family soon with me.
I felt my stomach flip because I still needed to tell him that he was going to become a father sooner than he thought. I wanted to wait until later when we were in private. When it was time to do the toast, I held up my champagne glass to my lips but didn’t swallow any of the drink in order to keep it secret until Togtulir and I arrived at our beach house later that night.
After the reception, we arrived at our beach house. I looked out through the open French doors that brought in a lovely breeze from outside. “This is incredible.” I walked over to one of the windows and gazed out into the horizon. The world appeared so tiny when you stood near an ocean.
Togtulir walked up behind me and scooped my hair off my neck. He planted a sexy kiss onto my neck. Before he decided to burrow himself any further, I needed to tell him about the baby.
“I have to tell you something.” I turned around and was met with an expression of concern on his face.
“What is it?”
“Well, over the past several weeks, I have not been feeling well. I have had some dizzy spells… “
“Why would you not tell me something like that, Cindy?” He interrupted me and there was worry and alarm in his voice.
“I wanted to wait until after the wedding. I’m so sorry. I hope you can forgive me.”
“It’s fine; we will take you to see a doctor after the honeymoon. Don’t worry I’m sure you will be all right, darling.” He rubbed my cheek with his thumb.
“Actually, I’ve already been to a doctor here on Cardalph.” I winced, bracing in case he became angry.
“What?” He looked genuinely hurt and I hated to start our first night as a married couple like this.
“I’m pregnant, Togtulir. I hope that doesn’t change anything between us. I’m due at what would be Christmas time back home.”
Togtulir’s eyes lit up like the sun. With the open door, I could hear the rush of the tide past the beach house. There was so much history that lived between us here now.
“You’re pregnant? Really?” His eyes gleamed and I thought he might begin to jump up and down like a child. “I can’t believe it.” He instinctively held a hand to my belly and cradled it there for a minute or two. “I’m thrilled, Cindy. You are carrying my child. You are the reason I will have a family of my own.” He kissed my belly and rubbed it. I took his head in my hands.
“Togtulir, I have to make multiple trips to the doctor. They have to make sure the baby does not hurt me because they are afraid of the size. They have to monitor me very carefully during the pregnancy.”
Any reservations Togtulir had gone out the window and had been chucked into the sea by now. He was beyond elated that we were going to have a baby and he was not going to let any medical glitch come between him and his unborn child.
He placed me delicately on the bed. He told me he wanted to make love to me gently and tenderly tonight. Our bed had a beautiful scattering of red rose petals all over it. I allowed myself to sink into the pillows and blankets that felt so soft on my tired body from all the dancing and standing I had done tonight.
“I could use a foot rub first,” I joked but Togtulir looked serious.
“I’ll do you one better sweetheart, I’ll rub your entire body and I’ll finish off with your clit. Tonight, and for the rest of your life; you deserve to be pampered.”
“Mmm,” I relaxed on my back as he rubbed my feet, then moved up to my calves and told me to turn over so he could get my back neck and shoulders. I had nearly fallen asleep I was enjoying his touch so much.
Then he took his tongue and opened my legs. He licked my clit until I was sent into oblivion with ecstasy. He entered me from behind and fucked me slowly but with a sexual appetite that needed satisfaction from its enormous craving.
After we had finished, he held me in his arms for the longest time and gazed longingly at my belly. “I’m going to make sure nothing ever happens to you or the baby inside of you. From now on, I protect you two first and foremost above everything else. Cindy, you are my entire world. And believe me, I’ve seen a lot in my lifetime.” I smiled and fell asleep in his arms.

Cindy
“This can’t be right.” I sat up in bed and nudged Togtulir. “Togtulir, wake up. Something is wrong.” Togtulir groaned and rubbed his
eyes.
“What’s going on?”
“I think I’m having contractions. I’ve been counting them for the past hour and they are only five minutes apart now. Ouch!” I tried to breathe through the intensity, but the pain was becoming all consuming.
Togtulir put his hands on my round belly. “Do you think you could be in labor? You’re not due for another three months.”
“I know, but remember what the doctor said? He said that I may not be able to carry to term because the baby is half Cardalphian and will grow quickly. Being half a species could complicate things. Remember? Obviously, he was right.” I snapped at Togtulir and instantly regretted it, but I was in so much discomfort right now.
Togtulir had a look of horror mixed with fright on his face. Before either of us could make a plan of action, my water broke all over the bed, soaking it and me in an uncomfortable wetness.
“Oh no!” My stomach dropped and my heart sank because even if this baby was larger than a human baby, he or she was still three months premature and still half a human. I wailed and Togtulir told me to try to remain calm.
“Everything is going to be okay, sweetheart,” He rubbed my sweaty forehead. The pain and cramps were becoming searing, unbearable. I could hardly breathe through them now. I tried to stand up but was unable to even go as far as lifting my legs out of the bed.
“Togtulir! I can’t even get up.” You are going to have to call for an ambulance. His face drained of color, so much so, that his skin almost turned to human pigment. “Please! Run and hurry!” I shouted at him, urging him back to reality.
The ambulance got to the palace in six minutes. They loaded me onto a stretcher and allowed Togtulir to ride with me, but he wasn’t able to touch me or hold my hand. The paramedics hooked me up to IVs and checked my vitals. “The baby is in distress!” One of them exclaimed.
