by Kody Boye
“Take me to your leader,” I said, resigned to the fate I knew was coming.
My body began to rise, then, as from the ground I was taken into the air. Slowly, surely, with efficiency that had been mastered from dozens, hundreds, thousands, possibly even millions of people, I was lifted toward the nexus that was its being. I saw, briefly, the panels upon the underside of the ship open, then as the light brightened in intensity.
“Ana Mia,” I heard Sin say into my ear. “Ana Mia! Ana Mia!”
“Tell Asha that I’m sorry I couldn’t do more for her,” I whispered.
A bright light filled my eyes.
A screeching ring exploded in my ears.
Tears burst down my face and blood filled my mouth as I bit my tongue.
I wasn’t dying. That I knew for sure.
No.
I was being Harvested.
And though what lay beyond was a mystery, the next phase of human history would soon begin.
