The General's Legacy_Part One_Inheritance Page 27

by Adrian G Hilder

Special thanks to one of my oldest and closest friends, David Dommett, the very first reader of this story who cast his scientific eye over the logic of the magic system, provided the earliest editing feedback and assured me the whole story works the way I intended. Thanks also to my osteopath (and fantasy fiction fan) Michael Boyd who also volunteered his critical eye in early editing. The narrative is stronger in places thanks to both their efforts.

My thanks also go to the staff at Rowanvale Books. They have efficiently guided this new author through the editing and book cover design processes. Worthy of particular thanks is my editor Sapphira White. Reining me in on the occasions I overdid it with metaphors, calling out the things that jarred, or did not flow as well as they could, are among her talents that have helped to polish this story to the standard it is now. I could never have achieved this alone.

Lastly, I would like to thank the many others who found The General’s Legacy on more than one readers and writers group online in its unedited form and took the time to read and provide feedback on the story. They know who they are if they are reading this.

  About the Author

Adrian G Hilder was born in 1970 in Lincolnshire, UK to an English father and a Scottish mother and grew up as a child of the Royal Air Force. Moving house every few years with his parents (and later on, brother) was the norm and began when he was four months old.

Adrian has lived on several RAF bases in the UK and Germany, and there was a time when he had spent more of his life in Germany than he had the UK.

His early years in continental Europe meant many family holidays immersed in the bewitching beauty of Bavaria, the Swiss and Austrian Alps. These locations inspire some settings and even events in his stories.

Today, Adrian lives in Hampshire, UK with his wife and three boys just a few miles from where Jane Austen wrote many of her works. As a teenager, Adrian had two great passions: computer programming and fantasy stories.

In October 2013, having worked in the IT industry since 1991, Adrian decided the time to realise his long-held ambition to write a fantasy story was long overdue. His debut story, The General’s Legacy, is the result of combining everything he has learned so far about creating fast paced dramatic stories, combined with what his imagination has been brewing for twenty-eight years.
