by John Barnes

This is JOHN BARNES’s thirtieth published book, including two books coauthored with astronaut Buzz Aldrin. Most of his work has been science fiction, but he has also written a number of nonfiction articles, including more than fifty in the Oxford Encyclopedia of Theatre and Performance. His (non-science fiction) novel Tales of the Madman Underground was a 2010 Michael L. Printz Honor Book.

At various times he has been paid to teach college classes in English, mathematics, theater, economics, speech, political science, and communications; design stage scenery and lighting; draw weather maps; work setups and tear-downs for a company that decorates building lobbies; write ad copy, political speeches, software reviews, blogs, and computer manuals; analyze poll data, employee satisfaction surveys, marketing research data, and social media metrics; copyedit a small city magazine; and travel a three-state territory as a sales rep. His parents always said he’d never be able to hold a steady job.

  John Barnes lives in Colorado.
