Love Divided (Fortis Security Series Book 3) Page 23

  The men both nodded, and she walked closer to them and touched their faces. They towered over her she thought again how handsome the one was.

  “You did well,” she said with a smile, and both men nodded without expression.

  Rhea followed them in and watched as they settled the patient. Her plan for a new head of security had hit her last night as she lay in bed. It was genius really and would not only help her but really fuck with that Fortis group and all their cronies.

  She left and went to her office. It was much like the rest of her home, clean and clinical. She sat at her desk and picked up her mobile phone. She dialled the number and waited. When the person on the other end of the phone answered, she only said one sentence then hung up.

  “Activate the sleeper!”

  She knew that the sleeper would get a call in the next ten minutes.

  Epilogue

  Jace and Lucy had walked back across the beach the next day and were loading up the car. They had made love all night, but Lucy had never felt more energised. The need to live every minute consumed her but in the best way. She would live for her sister and live every damn minute. She was about to get in the car when Jace stopped her. She frowned and looked at his serious face.

  “I love you my Luce,” he said and hooked his arms around her waist and brought her up against him. “Never did I think I would get this, and not even in my wildest dreams did I think it would be this good. However, we have some serious discussions to have about the future. There are a few things that I’m not sure I can get past.” He said solemnly.

  Her eyebrow quirked, and she knew he was going to say something outrageous as that was Jace all over.

  “Yes,” she prompted when he stopped.

  “I sleep on the left side of the bed, and I do have a dirty mind,” he said, and she cracked up laughing.

  “But then you won’t get that special loving,” she laughed. He buried his head in her hair and nuzzled her neck.

  “Okay, I can sleep on the right, but the dirty mind is a deal breaker,” he said and nibbled her neck again.

  She laughed loud then. “Okay I can cope with that,” she laughed, “now let’s go home so I can make apple pie.”

  He kissed her, and she got in her car. She watched as he walked to his Mercedes and admired his cute behind.

  She started her car and turned on her cd player. What came out of it made her smile like she never thought she would again. It was a recording of Jace singing Dear Future Husband by Meghan Trainor, but he had changed it to Dear Future wife and was singing it in a girly voice. She threw her head back and laughed until her sides her hurt.

  She felt his car pull up beside her and undid the window.

  “So what do you think? Want to give it a go?” he asked and held out his hand. In it was a Rose Gold, Champagne diamond cushion cut engagement ring.

  Lucy tried to control her emotions and failed, tears hit her cheeks, and she felt him open her car door and crouch down to her.

  “Baby if it is too soon after Lizzie then we can wait. I’m sorry I’m a dick.” He said and stroked her cheek.

  “No,” she said, “It’s not that. I just never thought this would happen and I’ve imagined it a hundred times, but this is perfect, this is so us. I’m so happy Jace, and yes I will definitely be your wife.” She said no more as he crushed his lips to hers.

  When they came up for air, her tears were dry, and her smile was enormous.

  “You’re still not getting the left side, though,” she laughed, “but I will make an extra-large apple pie.

  “I love you Luce, so much,” he said with sincerity.

  “And I love you, Jace.” She whispered.

  The Fortis team were all in the conference room. Everyone was present except for Lucy and Jace who had called to say they would be back later that day. They were going to start planning their strategy for taking down the Divine Watchers. Zin was talking to Celeste by the coffee pot about the bike he was doing up. Nate was going over the reports Jack had sent back about the operation in the US, with Drew and Dane and Will. Daniel was going over the cover schedules with Liam, and Ava was on her laptop, while talking to Zack. The team were keyed up and confident about their next moves. Things were starting to turn in their favour.

  ~~~
  Usov hung from up Rhea and smiled. Finally, he could get his revenge. Thirty years he had been waiting for this. He unlocked his safe and took out the file. He had memorised the words but looked at them in a new light now. He opened the disposable mobile and dialled the number to activate the sleeper. He waited as it rang and his lips tipped up as the recipient answered.
  ~~~

  The ringing of three phones broke up the chatter at Fortis. Zin slid out his phone and frowned at the screen he answered. He went silent and then hung up. Without a word to Celeste he turned and quickly strode from the room with a strange look on his face.

  At the same time, Liam answered his and a few moments later hurled it to the ground in anger. His face a mask of barely controlled fury.

  Drew answered his phone as well, and as he listened his face went as white as a ghost, and he started to pace. He hung up a few moments later and sank into the nearest chair.

  ~~~
  There it was done. The sleeper was activated, now to wait for them to come in.
  Sneak Peak
  Pandemonium was the only way to describe it. Ava sat quietly next to Zack as he watched the men around the room. Dane was talking to a distraught Drew who had nearly fainted after he had taken a call on his phone. He was running his hands through his hair in agitation, sweat coating his brow.
  Ava rose and walked to Celeste, who was standing with Samson where Zin had walked off and left her. Celeste was sipping her coffee her hand stroking Samson's head. The beautiful beast was alert and seemed to sense the angst that had suddenly invaded the room. Celeste’s touch soothed him.
  “Everything okay?” Ava asked.
  Celeste shrugged. “Not sure. One minute we were talking and the next he just took off.”
  “Yeah Liam just had a tantrum and threw his phone. Honestly it’s crazy. Men are such children sometimes.”
  “Talking of children, when is Riley coming over?” Celeste asked.
  Ava smiled as she thought of her son. He was the light of her life, and she missed him like mad. She so needed to see him and squidge his chubby cheeks.
  “He and my mum land later today, dad has gone to the airport to pick them up.”
  Ava watched as Drew stormed from the room. Dane went to follow, but Liam held up his hand.
  “Let me, dude,” he said and much calmer than a few minutes before, walked from the room.
  “Wonder what’s going on,” said Ava. She jumped when Samson started to growl at her feet. Celeste looked sharply at the door and knelt down to her dog. Ava watched as Celeste stroked him and cooed to him, but nothing calmed him.
  He started barking and growling louder, and Ava felt her heart rate race. The door flew open and stood there with a gun pointed at them was… ...
