Blood Catalyst Page 22

"Hello, Grayson." I couldn't keep the venom out of my voice, and suddenly all attention was on me.

Grayson didn't move from his seat. "Abigail."

"I have a couple questions for you." I narrowed my gaze. "The tracker on Alfie, why didn't it lead you to his location? How did you get it on him if you weren't able to breach or even sense him in the circle?"

"It led us to his location when he arrived at PIB. I slipped it on him when he wasn't looking."

I leaned forward on the table. I'm sure it came across more as an anger thing, but I needed it to support me for a moment. "Why didn't you check it before then? Why didn't you check it after?"

"Magic can interfere with the tracker."

Oh, he was going to try to bluff his way out of this. "Only if someone knows the tracker is there. You called me, even though he was at PIB. You placed him there to lure me there."

"You're wounded and aren't thinking clearly. You're looking for someone to blame Alfie's death and your kidnapping on."

"How did you know Alfie died?"

No one in the room spoke. All eyes were on us. "You fed Ira the information, and he planted Alfie in that crime scene using his witch that you let me kill." I straightened up. "Then you led me and PIB to believe that you had an inkling that Alfie would disappear, and he did. Without a tracker though, because you didn't need it. You waited until my other case was solved, had Ira deliver Alfie, and Oliver put the spell on him. You betrayed me to Ira."

"Abigail," Levi finally spoke. "Those are bold words."

"I knew there was something wrong with the case to begin with." I pulled my gun. "What say you, Grayson?"

He was silent as he looked around the room. "Alfie was expendable. You can't prove any of this."

I lifted my gun and shot him three times in the head, one in the chest. His blood splattered on the wall behind him, some splattered on the vampires sitting next to him.

I swore Mario scooted a bit further away from me. "Anyone else planning on betraying me?"

No one spoke, not even Levi. I cringed as the aches in my body became more. I holstered the gun. "Grayson tried to lead me to my death. The PIB records on his case won't add up. Ira had plans on changing me to make me his fledgling. He's dead. We finally got the bastard. Now, if you would excuse me, I need rest. Let this be a lesson that I don't wait for Levi to save me or avenge me if someone betrays my trust."

I turned and walked out of the room. Mario was instantly behind me, making sure I didn't fall. The doors shut behind us, and Mario started laughing. "How did you know? I don't think I've ever seen you so angry. And it makes me glad your gun was nowhere near you after Hannah's."

"Nothing added up with the case, there wasn't as much progress, there wasn't enough black magic to call me in. Any witch could have been called in to help with the circle, but he called me. Same when Alfie reappeared, at least twenty witches and warlocks in the building, and Grayson called me? He knew the spell killed Alfie. Ira told me that Alfie was planted there for me. Grayson was the only one that could have done that." I took a deep breath. "Take me back to the mansion please?"

Mario nodded and put a hand on my shoulder, taking me home.

  Dear Readers

Thank you for coming on this ride with me. The ending to this one was one I debated on, so I hope you found it satisfying. It was time for Abby to conquer Ira so that she could move on to other challenges that are left in this series. I hope you continue to read about her adventures and cheer her on. I know most of you are disappointed about the lack of Simon, but I promise, he's not going anywhere. As always, if you enjoyed this installment of Here Witchy Witchy, please consider leaving a review and thank you for all your support.
