Shadow Chaser (Undeadly Secrets Book 3) Page 31

Fiona Batty knew none of this. She had continued with her phone call, and only came to the door after repeated calls to her husband went without reply. There she saw her husband lying face down, just past the threshold of the door. She rushed to him, calling his name. As she reached a hand out, she was set upon. A hand around her throat lifted her while another pummelled her against the outside door frame.

The thing that held her wore an expression of intense malevolence. His face was a mask of fury, his mouth stretched to reveal fangs, his bright green eyes blazed with frightening light.

Dante held this piece of shit still. All they had done to protect themselves had come back to bite them. By shifting the evil that plagued them onto Alex, they had invited another kind. Cold revenge.

They had been so callous in choosing their victim, and so he would as well. He had forgiven much in his two hundred years, looked past a lot. But he would never look past this. There was no punishment fit for these people. Even a gruesome death was a mercy for what they had done to Alexandra.

Dante used his elbow to turn her head, exposing her main artery, which was pulsing hard in her fear. The smell was intoxicating. He shoved her face harder into the brick, and chomped down on her throat, drinking her in, sucking away her life. Her fear sweetened the blood, just like he remembered. She quivered and twitched like a fish on a line. Dante flung her to the ground, pressed his weight down on top of her, crushing her, growling his victory into her body. He used his legs to stop hers moving and trapped her flailing arm with his own, pinning it to the ground.

Dante sat her up, holding her away from him, breathing the scent of her own blood smeared across her face. Her breathing was raspy, as she struggled to fill her lungs. Much the same way Alex was having to struggle after these two had worked their little trick.

“Please…stop…we had save our daughter. It came for her in the night…like the others. We didn’t know what it was until later.”

“I don’t care. Who told you how to get rid of the demon?” he roared.

  “What...?”

  “How did you know?”

“A man came to see us. He said he’d been watching our case... He said he was a professor.”

  “What did he tell you?”

“That we had to send it to someone. We had to cut them. And they had to be single. He suggested our daughter’s teacher would be the easiest target.”

“And you just believed him? He gave you her name? Who was it?”

“He said his name was Julian.”

Julian. Dante balled his hands to fists and felt as if he would explode.

“Please…we had no other choice,” she wheezed. “It was for my baby.”

  “So is this.”

With the thought of Alex in his arms only recently, a hair away from death, Dante sneered and snapped the woman’s neck.

  About the Author

I've been writing since I was around 11, and have rarely been seen without staring off into the distance or with a pen in my hand ever since.

Whatever my genre I happen to be writing at the time, I am passionate about bringing this beautiful country I live in, Australia, to light. (Hint hint...even if that includes epic fantasy and vampires)
