Rocking Between The Sheets ((a Razor's Edge Prequel)) Page 4

by K. L. Myers

Our hands are tearing at each other's clothes, neither one of us thinking about the consequences, just living in the moment, ready to let out all the sexual frustrations we’ve been feeling for the last several weeks. When we collapse onto the bed in nothing but our underwear, my mouth finds Kayla’s supple breast, and I begin to suck. Her moans spur me on more, and when her pussy starts to grind against my cock, I almost lose it. I feel like a teenage boy again, unable to control myself. I have to slow down for a moment and breathe.

When I pull away, there is confusion on her face. “Kayla, we need to slow down a second, or this is going to be over faster than I want.”

Being the aggressor, Kayla smiles at me and then pulls my head back down to her nipple. “Don’t stop. I need you.” Her breath hitches when my teeth bite at her hardened peak. “Oh, God, Cayson, don’t stop. I want all of you, even if it is just for today.”

Hearing her say those words is what I have been waiting to hear. She wants what I want. What she doesn’t know is that it isn’t going to be just for today if I have anything to say about it.

  Chapter 12

  Kayla

Cayson and I lie on the bed in the aftermath of hours of lovemaking. At least that is what it felt like to me, but I know it was anything but that. It was just sex, and after tonight, I’ll be a fleeting memory in his memory bank of conquests.

I’ve failed, damn it. Just twelve more hours, and I would have been able to walk away with my heart intact. Now, I’ll be walking away knowing that a little piece of it will be left behind on this bus. The sound of voices has me stiffening. “They’re back,” I say to Cayson.

Acting like nothing earth-shattering just happened between us, he unwraps himself from me and stands to put his pants back on. “Don’t worry about them.” Cayson just stands there fully dressed, looking at me with an expression I haven’t seen on his face before. “You’re beautiful, you know that.” It isn’t a question but a statement, then his hand reaches for the door, pulling it open. My eyes follow him as he leaves, closing the door behind him before the dam of tears is released.

Being the coward that I am, I hide in the bedroom, not ready to face any of them, let alone face Cayson again. He’d know how I feel the minute he sees me, and I don’t think I can survive seeing pity in his eyes for the poor little girl who fell for the rocker.

A couple of hours later, a light knock comes at the door. Unable to face anyone, I pretend I am asleep. I hear the footsteps, smell Cayson’s cologne, and then feel his hand on my shoulder shaking me. Without opening my eyes, I acknowledge his presence.

“Hey, the guys and I are heading to the arena. I left your all-access pass on the counter. Meet us backstage when you’re ready.” I feel his lips brush my hair and then hear the door close behind him.

  Chapter 13

  Cayson

I knew the moment I left the room when the guys came back that there was something wrong with Kayla. I waited for several hours for her to join the group, but she never did. My gut tightens with anxiety. I hope she isn’t regretting what has happened between us. I know I‘m not. Now, all I need to do is tell her how I feel. I never got around to it before I took her, but now, there is no way I’m going to be able to be without her.

When it is time for us to leave, I find her asleep, so I leave her pass on the counter and wake her briefly, so she knows where to find us. As I walk the short walk from the bus to the entrance of the arena, it feels like something is off. With each step, I want to turn back and go to her.

I look for her in the crowd over and over again, but her seat in the front row remains empty. The sinking feeling I had earlier gets worse, and for the first time in ten years, I can’t get off the stage fast enough. Luckily, tonight's meet and greet was done before the show instead of after. I run for the bus as soon as I get off the stage. When I pull the door open and step inside, it is eerily quiet. One thing I know is that she isn’t there, but where she is, I have no clue. That is until I open the door to the bedroom and see it is empty. No laptop, no suitcase, no Kayla. She is gone.

As I pass the refrigerator, I grab a beer and sink down onto the couch, and that’s when I see it, the notebook she is always writing in. Grabbing it off the table, I open it up not sure what I expect to find, but what I didn’t expect was to see her story scribbled across the pages. I sit there for an hour reading about Richie Blade, the lead singer for Blade Runner, and his girlfriend, Lara Reese. The more I read, the more it becomes apparent that the characters in her book are the two of us. She was writing about us; the similarities are uncanny. Page after page, I become emotionally invested in them. I don’t know if it is because I partially identify with the main character, or if it is her writing, but the one thing I am not prepared for is the empty page that comes next. How is this story going to end? How is our story going to end?
