Frees didn’t dare allow himself to feel hope. But he couldn’t help it. Because he knew it would make Arista happy.

“I can begin inputting the parameters into Blu’s computer immediately,” he said. “But it will take a while. There’s a lot of information.”

“I don’t doubt it,” David said. “I also want to bring Arista in on this. She might be helpful.”

“I’m sure she’ll make it her top priority,” he replied.

  “What’s my top priority?”

Frees glanced over to see her standing by the doorway, pain and anguish etched across her face. Despite having access to a dresser full of new clothes she hadn’t changed out of what they’d arrived in, preferring, she said, to sleep ready for battle. Whatever that meant. “You’re back,” she said, indicating David. “How are you feeling?”

“I could ask you the same thing.”

She shrugged. “Fine. I guess. How’s Jennings?”

“Running around like a junglefowl missing its head. Trying to clean up your mess.”

“Tell him thank you,” she said.

“You can tell him yourself. He’ll be by later to deliver the documents you need to sign.”

She raised an eyebrow at Frees but he only shrugged. “Documents?”

  “For your windfall,” Frees said.

She rolled her eyes. “I don’t want it. Give it to charity or something. Help the people of greater New York. I don’t care.”

“You might when you see what David is proposing,” Frees said.

She took a deep breath and worked her jaw, as if chewing the idea. Finally, she pushed off from the edge of the door and approached them. “Let’s see it.”

David laughed. “There’s nothing to see. Not yet. It’s all in Frees’ head.”

Her brow furrowed. “What’s in Frees’ head?”

He walked over, standing close to her. “We have to try. Even if it doesn’t work, we have to at least try.”

  “Try what?” she asked.

Frees smiled. The first genuine smile he’d had in quite some time. “To build a new gate.”

Arista and Frees’ story concludes in CAUSALITY! Available JANUARY 2019!

  ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

This book was truly the first “sequel” I’d ever written. Originally when I conceived of the idea for SINGULAR the first book ended with Arista and Frees stuck on the other side of a dimensional gate in a parallel world.

As you can obviously tell, things changed.

When I went back and rewrote the story my original concept became three books, with the “sequel” coming in fourth. I always had an idea of what I wanted to do and how it would go, especially for the character of Blu, whom I enjoy writing immensely.

But to finally put it all down and present it to you, the reader, took so many hours and people along the way.

I want to first thank the writing community as a whole. Without the conferences, meetups, one-on-one sessions and general encouragement from my fellow writers, I would have given up long ago.

To Wendy, who continues to surprise and impress me with his amazing covers, thank you for turning my thoughts into true beauty. It is a pleasure working with you.

To Tiffany, my editor, thank you for making my sentences legible. This would be a far weaker book without your insight.

To my beta readers, thank you for all your valuable feedback. You made this story better by miles. I also want to make a special shout out to my sister, Katie Camden. Thank you for your enthusiasm and commitment to making this book better. It made all the difference.

To my friends and family, thank you for all the support you continue to give me on a constant basis. It means more than you can know.

And finally, to my wife, who has given me encouragement and support even when it meant long nights and early mornings. Thank you for it all, I love you.

  ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I’ve always been an author, but I haven’t always known I’ve been an author. It took a few tragic events in my life and a lot of time for me to figure it out.

But I’ve never had a problem creating stories. Or creating in general. I wasn’t the creative person in any of my classes in school, I was always the kid who never spoke but always listened. I was the one who would take an assignment and pour my heart into it, as long as it meant I could do something original.

I didn’t start writing professionally until 2014 when I tackled the idea of finishing a novel-length book. Before then I had always written in some capacity, even as far back as elementary school where I wrote pages of stories about creatures under the earth.

It took a few tries and a few novels under my belt before I figured out what I was doing, and now I’m currently writing my first series: The Quantum Gate series which you hold in your hands now! I am thrilled to be doing this and couldn’t imagine doing anything else with my life.

I hope you enjoy the fruits of my labor. May they bring you as much joy as they bring me.

Having lived in both Virginia and California in the past, I currently reside in Charlotte, NC with my very supportive wife and two small pugs.
