by Glenna Maynard

“You’re underestimating Harper. She hates her husband. Wouldn’t love anything more than for someone to take him out for her.”

“I need you to get inside. Play shit cool, find the girls and secure them. I’ll be there soon as I can.”

“Yeah, I’ll be in touch.” I end the call, hoping like hell we can pull this off.

  Chapter 24

  Morgan

“Well, don’t the two of you just look chummy. Who was she talking to, Danny? Don’t think I didn’t see her toss the cell phone on the couch.” Harper makes a Tsk sound as she takes a step in my direction.

I shuffle back, nearly falling over my own feet.

“You have bigger problems than a phone call. Your husband is home and he thinks, she’s my girlfriend,” Danny informs her.

“I see. Did he buy your story?”

“Maybe. I don’t know. He wants us to stay for dinner.”

Her smile falls at his words. “He’s always getting in the way of my fun,” she pouts.

“Look, I don’t know why you grabbed her, but fun’s over. Let me take her home.”

“Not until she returns what she stole from me.”

“I don’t have anything of yours, lady.”

“Ah, but you do. You stole Cole.”

“I don’t want him. You can have him.” I shake my head and step closer to Danny. Bridgette hasn’t spoken a peep and is leaning against the door; her hand is on the knob ready to bolt at any moment.

“He loves you,” she says, tilting her head to the side. “I can tell. I just know.”

“He definitely doesn’t love me. He barely knows me, and if he loved me, he wouldn’t have been fucking you.”

  Bridgette blanches at my statement.

Harper waves her hand like what I say doesn’t matter.

“We are going to play a game. I love games, don’t you?”

“Harper…” Danny starts, but she holds up a gun to stop him.

“Don’t get involved more than you have already troubled yourself. You two will put on a smile for Marek. Make him happy. Danny, I don’t know who you allowed her to call, but for that… you will tell Marek you want to join his club. I need you and you owe me.”

Danny’s head falls as he stares at his shoes. What could she have on him that could be so bad?

“As for you.” She points at me. “Play along tonight and I’ll let you live. I only ask you do one more favor.”

  “What’s that?”

  “Break lover boy’s heart.”

“If I don’t?” I question, growing sick of this shit already.

“I’ll make Cole watch while I give you to my husband. You and your friend. Get your hand off the knob,” she snaps at Bridgette.

“She has nothing to do with this,” I shout back at her, finding my courage.

“Oh, sure she does, she’s here to make sure you do what I want.” Harper gets in my face baring her teeth at me.

“Fine, get Cole here. I won’t have any problem telling him that I am so done with him.”

“Oh, sweetheart, that’s real cute, but you are going to have to do much better than that. You see, he needs to see you with someone else. And Danny here, he can’t seem to keep his eyes off you, so he’ll do.”

“You’re crazy,” I tell her, shaking my head.

“That may be true.” She cocks her gun and points it between Bridgett’s eyes. “But I am a woman of my word. Are you?”

“Stop! I’ll do it.” I look to Danny who looks so lost right now. How could his own sister use him like this? “Come here, Danny,” I tell him. “It’s okay. Let’s show your dear sister here a preview of what she’s buying.”

He steps into me, his eyes are sad but he mouths to me, “You don’t have to do this.”

I want to say no, that hopefully my old man will rain down ten kinds of hell on them all before we go much further than a kiss. Bridgette is shaking and crying. I feel so stupid, getting wrapped up in Cole. Thinking he was special… thinking that he thought I was special too.

Licking my bottom lip, I plaster a fake smile on my face. I hook an arm around Danny’s neck and pull him closer to my mouth. I don’t want to touch him. He did grab me for his bitch sister after all. I want nothing more than to go home to my family and never leave the safety of their net again. I wish now more than ever I hadn’t fought so hard to be independent. I should have just gone along with Carter watching over me, but no, I had to be stubborn. I had to be free, and look what it has costs me.

There’s not time for crying for yesterday. There’s no time to be the dumb girl I was only hours ago. Bridgette is counting on me. It’s time to prove I am my father’s daughter, that I do have the true blood of a Goddamned rebel coursing through my veins and no bitch, no matter how crazy she might be is gonna stand in my way. She doesn’t get to humiliate me. Oh no, I’ll fucking ride free or die trying, just like my momma and my daddy raised me.

With one hand behind my back, I use it to go for the nail file and hope like hell when I shove it in Danny’s eyeball that Bridgette runs like her ass is on fire.

I press my mouth to Danny’s, not really kissing him, only touching my lips to his. My fingers wrap around the small file when the door falls open.

“Here you all are.” Harper’s husband smiles at us all.

Bridgette shrinks into the wall by the door. He hasn’t noticed her, and I spare her a quick glance, urging her to run. She takes the hint and dares to speak. “I’m gonna go use the ladies room. Be right back.” She slips out the door and is gone before Harper can argue.

Dear God, please let her make it out alive, I recite the small prayer inside my head.

“Look at the lovebirds. Our Danny boy is in love. Isn’t it sweet,” Harper coos, fawning over us.

If Bridgette can make it out of here, I can play along a while longer to buy her time.

  Chapter 25

  Bridgette

I don’t run, but I walk so damn fast I may as well be running. I hate leaving Morgan back there with those freaks, but her best chance is for me to get the hell out of here and get to a phone. Three minutes into our car ride here, Harper grabbed my phone and tossed it out the window. She kept telling me if I tried to escape she would kill Morgan. I should have done something. I should have fought her, but if something had gone wrong, how could I help Morgan if I were lying in a ditch somewhere or worse…dead.

I pass by a biker wearing a cut. I steal a glance at his backside as he ignores me.

Devils Rejects. My stomach drops. I can’t believe I forgot about Rhyner. Was he really looking for Morgan, or was he part of the plan to grab us?

I don’t want to think he would hurt us, but that crazy bitch said that Morgan stole Cole from her, which means Rhy has to be involved with these nuts somehow.

If I can get outside, there is a gas station down the road. I can call for help from there.

I make it to the garage and dart out the side entrance. As I am going around the wall to look for a safe way to escape unnoticed, I bump into a chest. A hand goes around my mouth before I can scream.

“Shh, it’s me,” Rhyner whispers in my ear. I tense unsure of if he means to help me or drag me back. “I’ve got you.”

“We have to get Morgan,” I demand, once he’s removed his hand from my mouth.

“What are you doing out here?”

“We don’t have time for this.” I wave my hands around. “That psycho woman has Morgan and is forcing her be with some guy to hurt Cole. She said Cole was her lover or something. Guess she is pretty jealous of him being with Morgan, but Morgan was saying she wanted nothing to do with him because he was sleeping with Harper. I’m so confused to be honest.”

“I’m sure you are. I have a lot to explain, but right now I need to talk to Cole and to get you to safety. These people are bad and they don’t fuck around.”

“Shouldn’t we be getting Morgan?” I huff, trying to piece everything together.

  “Harper won’t
hurt her, not yet. She wants Cole to see her with Danny.”

I pull away from Rhyner, I didn’t say anything about Danny.

“Why are you looking at me like that?”

“I didn’t tell you his name was Danny.”

“Morgan called her dad and told him Danny was helping her. Fuck B, we don’t have time for this right now. I gotta call Cole and we need to move. Anyone could spot us, we need to get some cover.”

I want to trust Rhyner, but after today…I don’t know anything about anyone.

“I swear to you Bridgette, you and me…I never wanted you to be a part of this. I told you this morning that my life is complicated.”

I know he did, but it doesn’t mean I believe him.

However, considering my options and situation, I don’t have much of a choice. That fact alone doesn’t stop me from asking him what’s on my mind though. “Just answer me one question, Rhy; You say you didn’t want me involved in this. Why did you tell me this morning that you were part of an MC, that works against Morgan’s dad, and yet now you know that Morgan called her dad and you want to call Cole? What the fuck is going on here?”

“Start walking along the wall. There’s a shed we can hide in. It’s the gardener’s and no one ever goes in it. I’ll explain in there, once I call Cole.”

I nod and start walking. I want to believe that somehow Rhyner is a good guy in all this. I’m holding onto faith that he will explain all this crap and not hurt me. Rhyner stays behind me, until we reach the end of the wall. He steps in front of me and scouts the area.

When he gives me the signal, I run behind him to the shed. Only when we get to it, the door is padlocked.

“Damn it,” he curses under his breath.

A spotlight shines on the grass near us.

“Fuck, move around to the back,” he orders me. “They must be looking for you.”

I shiver at his observation. I definitely don’t want them to find me. I don’t want to know what they had planned for me. But, I’m more afraid of what they are doing to Morgan every second we leave her in there.

  Rebel

  Lexington, Kentucky

“Nash and Karly made it. They are en route to a hotel. We need to swing by and pick him up. He’ll be waiting by the lobby of the Hilton,” Tread announces.

Sweat trickles down my back. I’ve not laid eyes on my sorry son of a fake-deathin-motherfuckin’ bitch brother in years. I don’t know whether I want to hug his neck or kill him for good. I have come to terms with my actions the day I discovered my wife hanging from that godforsaken tree.

We make it to the hotel and there he is…my Goddamned brother. A tear rolls down my cheek but I brush that shit off. Now isn’t the time for getting sentimental. No, now is the time to go kill any motherfucker that stands between my daughter and her safety.

However, I want a word with him.

“I need a moment with my brother,” I tell Grim as we roll to a stop.

He grunts as Romeo mumbles, “Christ,” under his breath.

I jump out and my brother instantly glares at me with nothing but pure hate masked over his face.

“Got nothing to say to you,” he states as he walks past me.

Grabbing his shoulder, I jerk him back. “Maybe not, but I sure as fuck have plenty to say to you.”

“I don’t want your apology. Shit is done and buried,” he growls at me. “You didn’t give a fuck about me then. You sure as shit don’t give a fuck about me now. You were probably glad when you thought I died. You were happy that there was no one to stand in the way of you claiming my family for yourself. Don’t think I don’t know how you tried to fuck my wife. Don’t think I don’t know that deep down you always wanted her, but you were too damn big of a pussy to handle her.”

“Fuck you, whatever in the fuck your name is these days. You don’t know a Goddamned thing about me or how in the fuck I motherfuckin’ feel you selfish prick. Goddamn pissy faced son’bitch. You don’t know what I’ve been through. So, fuck ye if ye don’t want my apology, but we gotta work together on this. Our shit doesn’t matter. Your boy is gonna get his ass killed at my hands if you don’t help me bring my daughter home.”

He gets in my face, looking his nose down at me. “Don’t be threatening my son. He’s nothing to you. Never has been and sure as fuck never will be. You feel me?”

“I don’t like this shit any more than you do. You think I don’t want to be home right now with my kids and my fuckin’ wife? Thanks to your son, my daughter is being forced to do God knows what. What if it were Sara, how would ye feel? Yeah, I know all about you and your new life, brother.” I curl my nose in disgust.

He scratches the back of his neck, and I can sense the tension leaving him. “You’re right. If it were Sara, I’d be going ape shit. No girl deserves that shit. Let’s ride.”

I follow him into the van.

We may never be family again, but at least I said my peace. At least I know I tried.

  Cole

Ten minutes ago, I received a call from Harper. I played it cool. I let her believe I didn’t know she has my woman. It killed me not to threaten to fucking string her up for the crows to peck at her, but I kept my mouth shut. I did what Rebel and Grim asked me to do. Harper said that Marek requires my presence. I’m sure it is a setup, but nothing will keep me from getting to Morgan. I’m riding in the passenger seat of a van full of Black Rebel Riders’ MC. Tonight, we will put an end to Marek and the Devils Rejects. Tonight, we end this fucking war.

My phone rings. It’s Rhy. Thank the fuck.

  “You find her?”

“Not yet. I have Bridgette though. Found her sneaking around back. She managed to slip away, but you aren’t gonna like what she told me.”

“I’m almost there. Had to make a quick detour at the airport. I’m bringing a Black Rebel army with me. Can you get to the back gate and let us in?”

“I’ll meet you there, but Cole, Morgan knows all about your double life.”

“Fucking perfect. I should have known Harper was watching me. I should have…I don’t know what I should have done, man, but I should have done things differently with Morgan from the start. I should have never gotten involved.”

“I won’t say I told you so, just get your ass here.”

  Chapter 26

  Danny

I can’t believe my sister is going through with this stupid shit. Her and her mind games are getting fucking old.

“Harper tells me you are ready to join the club. Is that true, Danny boy?”

Harper beams at me as though nothing could please her more.

“Yeah, I’m ready. It’s time,” I confirm, feeling sick to my stomach.

“Good. Then you know that what’s yours is mine now, don’t you?” He winks at Morgan.

Her face falls, but she recovers quickly.

“I don’t think, Miracle will be open to you,” I tell him, trying to help her.

“I don’t ask, Danny, don’t forget yourself. Harper take her to the playroom, it’s time we break in our newest asset.”

“I think you’ll enjoy her,” Harper says to him and grabs Morgan by the arm, leading her away. “I’ll dress her in your favorite,” she calls out as they make their way down the hall.

“I must say, I’m damn surprised you decided to accept your place here. What changed?”

  “Nothing, it’s just time.”

“All right. Let's have a toast. Then we can join the girls.”

I follow him for a drink, almost afraid he will poison me. He has been known to do it in the past.

I take my drink as he says, “To brotherhood.”

I nearly choke. We are far from brothers. I hate his fuckin’ guts.

“I know you say you are attached, but I think you’ll find I have many women who will suit your needs. There’s just something about this girl you brought, she’s so pure. I must have her. You don’t mind do you, brother?”

“Not at all. I was growing bored of h
er anyway.” Like I could argue otherwise.

He laughs. “You may grow on me yet, Danny boy.”

I hate it when he calls me that.

He takes one last swig from his glass. “Why don’t you go down to the basement and find you a girl or two to entertain you, while I see what it is about Miracle that fascinates me. Then we will have dinner to welcome you properly.”

“Sure.” I remember the last girl that fascinated him. I still get sick when I think of what he did to Gail.

Once he has left me, I go to the basement but not to see about the girls. I go to work on something that will buy Morgan her freedom if her father doesn't pull through in time. Marek will hurt her if he thinks she matters to me, but he will kill her if he finds out who she really is.

  Harper

“Not so sweet and innocent now, are you?” I laugh at Cole’s little slut as I put a collar around her neck. “I can’t wait for Cole to come in and see you playing as my husband’s pet.”

“I doubt he will even care,” she sasses.

That earns her a tug on the collar.

Marek enters the room and his eyes light up as he takes in this little bitch in her black leather bikini. What is it about her that appeals to men? I don't see it.

“That will be all, Harper.” He waves me off.

“You aren't going to deny me watching, are you? It’s been so long since we’ve played together,” I pout and he sighs.

“Don’t ruin this for me. You know I hate the sight of you. Why do you think I never stay here for long?”

I narrow my eyes on him. “Not in front of your pet, you may make her forget her place here.”

“Fine, if you want to watch, have at it, but you will not participate. Are we clear?”

“Crystal,” I sneer, shoving Cole’s whore forward. “I need to get a drink. Don’t start without me,” I warn.

“Wouldn’t dream of it,” he murmurs, stroking her cheek. “You are a pretty thing,” he tells her as I close the door.

  I hope he kills her.

I call Lenny. “Did you find my missing guest yet?”
