attacks so I knew he may have issues if we went through with this. I didn't have a choice this time. It just had to be done. We had to find a way to make it through this war that had begun. We all leave towards my father's
house, where my boat was to take to the water to my hideout. Getting past my father's house without being noticed was going to be one of the hardest parts of this. Especially if the hounds were outside. He likes to do that to keep everyone guessing. He's the god of the underworld, tricks are just something that comes with the role. He keeps the hellhounds in and out of hell. Good thing I know a few of his tricks. We all wear black. We look like ninjas, which would be cool if this was a movie, but it's not, and we have a job to do. I crawl down on my hands and knees passing under the gate. Cato, Selene, Zack and Iris follow. Selene moved the fastest, almost
like she had done this before. We run as fast as we can lift off the ground running in the air. I see my boat docked. Selene must have been using her powers because the water was moving rapidly. We get past the hellhounds
without so much as a bark. We are almost to the boat when Selene yells, “Hold on!” We all stop landing hard on the ground.
There's no one around, we didn't have time to waste, I keep running. The water starts to bubble, then turns into a sheet of ice. Her hands are placed out in front of her and
the water is literally a sheet of ice. She beats me to the water, standing as if she were on a surf board atop the water. She tells us to run. We stop, and look at her for a second. This was ice. How were we going to run? Cato
steps onto the ice, then begins to run in a full sprint, gliding the whole way. Iris, Zack, and I follow behind. We are trailing the two of them, but this was kind of fun. We are almost to my hideout and I can see the door. She gets down like she is sliding bases and her feet kick in the
door. We follow in behind her. I close the door of my hideaway with a swipe of my hand.
“What the hell is this place?” Cato asks me.
“It's my hideout. I made this place a long time ago.” I tell him, while searching in my pocket for coins to get us back to Earth.
“Huh? Cool.” He says. Then everyone is staring at me. I hand each of them one coin.
This was all I had left for us to get back to Earth. Everyone takes their coins in their hands.
“Where are we going so we make sure that we all go to the same place?”
“My house.” Everyone nods to going to my house. Thunder begins to crack over our heads.
We had been positive no one saw us, at this point it was like Zeus was just throwing a hissy fit like a child. We pause for a moment, then with my signal and the flip of the coin we are all standing in my living room on Earth. A little shaken up, but everyone was here in one piece.
“Alright, to our car. You guys follow behind, and keep up!” They all nod.
We begin to run to the vehicles. Selene smiles at me. I knew she wanted to drive our car again. I can't blame her. The Bugatti was an amazing piece of machinery. Luckily, I had brought it back to the house away from her
mom's when she was kidnapped. I hadn't even thought of it till Cato suggested us taking it back. I guess he was smart at times. She slides into the car, taking the steering wheel in her hands like it was a prized possession. I slide into my seat. She starts the engine of the car and it roars
like a tiger. She hits the gas pedal and we speed out of the driveway. The only stop she had in mind was her mother's home. I wasn't sure if Cato could keep up with her. She was driving this thing like it was on rails. Every turn was sharp, her eyes fixated on the road, never glancing
to the sides of her. She was driving in and out of lanes, shifting gears like a race car driver. The car was letting her do what she wanted. She wanted vengeance for all of the pain that had been in her life and this car was
letting her have that. Her way or no way. She begins to slow the car down right before she reaches her mom's house. There were numerous vehicles in the driveway and along the side street. She didn't care. She made a parking place of her own. Honestly, I couldn't believe we had even made it back to Earth and here's Selene taking it all in. Nothing was stopping her.
She is either the quiet warrior right now, or so angry that she was going to kill Alex before we even had a chance to figure out if our plan would even work. I had a feeling nothing was going to ever stand in her away again.
She had changed so much in such a short time. I knew this Selene; she was the girl I had fallen in love with. Even when no one saw her this way, I had. She was always going to be amazing even if she was angry as hell
right now. That part worried me the most. Her anger was something more god like then mortal. I couldn't tell which way she was leaning right now.
After exiting the car, we don't walk up to the front door we sprint. Not knowing what we were going to find inside, she didn't care. She threw the door open with her hand, skidding across the floor of the living room.
Before any of us could stop her, she had Alex in a chokehold.
That answered my question. She had said yes to this plan, just to get to Alex.
Her eyes were a very dark shade of blue. Surveying the room as quickly as I could, her mother was suspended in the air, as if she were floating, with her eyes closed. The room was filled with other gods and goddess' I hadn't
seen in years. No one was moving or talking, everyone fixated on Selene and Alex.
“What did you do to my mother?” She screamed at him.
“She's just taking a nap.” He could barely get the words out from Selene's grip around his throat.
“Undo it now!” She yelled back in his face, as it became more bloodshot as her grip tightened.
“I will.” He spat out. She dropped him to the floor, waiting for him to undo what he had done to her mother.
“I will, I just need you to see the truth before I do.” He stood to his feet. I moved closer to Selene.
“You do it now, or so help me I will kill you here and now.”
“I will, I promise, but I needed you to see something before I do. Can you please just hear me out?”
She paused for a moment, turning her head slightly to her mother's body that was floating lifelessly in the air, then back to Alex.
“What?” She finally speaks.
“This is not your real mother. You are not a migades. You are a true goddess.” Alex's words fill the air like a bomb had just dropped.
No one spoke as the two of them stared down one another. If this was true, and I was right, this wasn't going to end well for anyone in this room. She wasn't prepared for the words that he had just spoke to her, but somewhere I had known all along. This was the part that I had also feared.
She wasn't going to take this news very well, and she sure as hell wasn't going to take it easy on Alex. My only question was how did he find out?
Who was her mother then?
My biggest fear was how was I going to stop her from causing the war on Earth right here and now.
Chapter Thirty-Six
The lies that shattered the heart
Selene and Alex stood staring one another down. She wasn't going to just let the only mother she had ever known float lifeless in the air for long.
“You know somewhere deep down you feel that what I said is right.” Alex says quietly.
“I know that you got thirty seconds to tell me what you’re talking about, or you're dead.” She whispered back.
“It's in your book.” Alex turns slightly, lifting her book from the table, handing it over to her.
“You took my book, too? Wow. You got some nerve.” She grabbed the book fast from his hands.
Everyone is still watching in anticipation. I just couldn't let this play out in front of all these people for her. She would want privacy.
“All of you need to step outside.” I say, with no one moving.
“NOW!” I shout loud enough that they moved quickly.
All at once, everyone leaves the ho
use in all different directions. The only ones in the house now were Selene, Alex and I. Never mind the floating body above us, this wasn't going to go well, and whomever this woman
was she was safer sleeping. Selene sat down on the couch, staring up at her mother, the only mother she had ever known. Taking the book in her hand, letting the pages guide her to what she wanted to know, she was as
quiet as a mouse. I looked to Alex to see what his thoughts were. His lips were curled up a little, with his eyes looking blankly at her. There was so much more to this story then just Selene being a goddess. The pages’ start flipping faster in her hand and she moves it back, when the pages suddenly stop. I don't know how Alex could have read her book in the first place. We were only supposed to be able to see what our fathers had written to
us. Then I peeked down at the page, and I could read the writing. Her father hadn't written this part. The writing was in red ink, beautifully penned in calligraphy. I stared down at the writing for a moment. I knew that writing, it was Hera's. Selene stopped looking at the writing, turned
her face to me, then back down at the writing. I moved to sit beside her.
Whatever Hera had written was going to tell her the truth. All the lies were about to be told. She keeps reading the page, as it flipped on its own.
Page after page, Selene's eyes begin to fill with tears. I place my hand on her knee. She was shaking. I had no idea what the written words said, I was trying to give her privacy. She kept reading, as Alex now took a seat
across from us. I glance over at him, tears streaming down his face. This must be bad. I don't think I had ever seen Alex cry, ever. He didn't cry, he got angry, but never a tear shed. Alex catches me watching him cry, he immediately stops the tears. Standing back up, he moves to stand over
Selene. The book stops flipping pages and there was no more red writing.
Selene's eyes turned slightly to me, then back to the book, then up at Alex. She sat there holding the book closing it with force. There were no more tears from either of them, just silence.
“Selene?” I break the silence.
“The lies never stop. They never stop. The life we all think we have is a joke. This is a damn joke!” She throws the book across the room, hitting a picture on the wall of her and her mother, shattering the glass into thousands of pieces.
“What is going on?” I try to get answers before she really loses her cool.
“This woman is not my mother.” She points to her mom's body that is still floating above us.
Her words are choked back by what I can only assume would be tears she didn't want us to see.
“Then who is she?” I ask moving my hand from her leg.
“She's just a mortal that was assigned to keep me a secret from Zeus.” Her voice cracks, then the tears start to fill her blue eyes.
“What do you mean?” I had no clue as to what any of this meant.
Selene was now crying so hard her whole body was shaking, she placed her hands over her face. I looked to Alex for the answers.
“Selene's mother is Hera. Hera isn't my mother, she's Selene's. This mortal has no ties to Selene except the fact she was to raise her till she turned eighteen.” Alex says this in a voice I have never heard.
Quiet, intense, and hurt was the only way I could describe the moment he let those words slip from his lips.
“What?” I was confused. How could Hera be Selene's mother and not Alex's?
“Poseidon and Hera had a child. They hid her away from my father, with this woman. My father is Zeus, but my mother is not Hera. My mother is...” His voice trailed off.
“Who? Who is your mother?” I was starting to get anxious.
“Medusa. My mother is Medusa.” He barely can say her name without shuttering.
“No. That's not true. Cato's mom is Medusa. I don't think you guys are reading the book right. Why would Poseidon hide Selene here, why would Hera claim she is your mother if she wasn't?” I had more questions than I knew how to ask.
“Hera got pregnant with Poseidon's child and kept it a secret from my father. She was on Earth trying to find someone that could protect her baby. He thought she was here because they had been fighting. During that time, my father had an affair with Medusa. Medusa believed
she had another son. Remember, she thought it was you. Well, she did, it just wasn't you. It was me. My father took me from her when I was born, forced my mom, I mean, Hera, to raise me as hers. All the while, Hera had
just given birth to her own child that she had hidden on Earth away from my father. Poseidon made sure she was taken care of in every way possible. Hera could never have contact with the child for fear of my father and what he would do to her. I am the migades. She is the rightful
heir to the throne. My father would never allow a female to be the ruler of gods, hence, why he had me. Medusa was under his spell. She believed that she was with your father, but she wasn't. Zeus had everything he has
always wanted. A son to take his place. Me.”
“I'm sorry but you have a brother, I thought... Ryker. How is he not the heir then, he already had a son? Why did he need another one. No offense.”
“Because Ryker wasn't a full god either. He's a migades, too. Iris can't be the goddess to rule the worlds because he had an affair on my mom, I mean Hera, and he would never allow that. So, the only one that is the rightful heir to rule the gods is you and Selene. Selene is the only one who could take down my father. She is the daughter of two of the strongest gods and goddess’ in all the worlds. My mother or Hera, is as powerful as my father. She just didn't fight him. Everything we have thought is no
longer true. I am not the son of Hera and Zeus. Only a full god or goddess can rule the worlds. That's Selene and you. When you married, that was when you became the rightful heir to the throne so to speak. You are Zeus and Hera in a weird way, just ... Just not the same powers. My father wanted me to be with Selene because he found out that she was the daughter they had hid.”
“What the...” That's all I could say. None of this made any sense to me.
Why would they go through all this just to cause us pain? Why would any of this even make sense? How could you be so cruel that you would leave your child? Why would you have a son with someone else just to make sure they were the rightful heir. Why would Hera raise Alex as her son when her daughter was alive and living on Earth?
These weren't gods. These were monsters hiding behind masks. Selene sat there still, no more tears, no more shaking, just a faraway look in her eyes. Everyone and everything that she had believed was true was
now shattered into little pieces.
“Then who the hell is this woman?” She finally spoke standing to get a better look at the woman she had believed to be her mother.
“She is the woman that Hera found to keep you safe. She had prayed to the gods for a child, and Hera gave her one, she gave her you. She always knew one day you would leave, and your father made it to where he would
visit her often. She fell in love with him before you were even born. He loved her too, just not the same as he loved my mother. I mean Hera. That's why you believed and were to know of your father. I guess you could say Hera was the real hero in all of this. She gave birth to a child
whom she knew she would never raise. I guess she just wanted you to be safe and loved.” Alex's words cut Selene like a knife.
A mother she thought she knew and loved, was nothing to her. She was just a mortal who wanted a child, then fell in love with a god. All the times that Poseidon said he had loved her mother, it wasn't a lie, it just wasn't this woman whom Selene had known as her mother. It was Hera. That was the loophole and why he never got married. Some of this was making more sense now than I had imagined it would. He gave up the throne for Zeus, but all the while, he is the real god of gods. This could be why Colin is the way he is. Maybe he always knew.
“I'm done.” She says loudly.
“Done?” I ask her.

Yes, done. Done with all of this. Done with all of them. I don't want any of this. Nothing is real, nothing is what I even came to terms with. None of it. I'm done. He wants Alex to have the throne to his fake kingdom, then
he can have it. I hate them. I hate all of them!” She screamed as I watched a tear roll down her beautifully sad face.
We had believed everything they had told us. This secret that Poseidon had on Zeus was bigger than any of us had ever believed. This was what he knew could solve all the problems. My father and her father had planned
this since we were born. I had no doubt that this was always the plan. If we married, we would be strong enough to take over. Alex would never have been able to be the rightful heir. That's why Zeus pushed so much. It
all makes some sense now. This battle was never about any of us, their children, this was always about them fighting to become the ones who would over throw him. Revenge was their only motive. Not love for their
children, not love for the brother that had become the god of gods, it was about revenge and a forbidden love. Short and to the point. Revenge for him making himself the god of gods. Revenge through their children to overthrow him. Were we ever important to them as children or just
