They put out word that they were looking for an excellent tutor in swordsmanship at several of the weapon shops in the city. They gave the address of the inn as a contact point for a tutor and then returned to the inn to enjoy the food and each other.
The following day began with a pair of disappointments. Two men showed up claiming to be excellent swordsman and able to instruct them. When Roberta showed up the first, he left in a huff. When she defeated the second, he tried to turn violent and Ethan threw him from the window.
As she peered out into the crowd forming around the injured man lying in the road, she saw Geoff's face.
“Geoff! Geoff! Up here!”
Geoff looked about for the sound of his sister's voice and finally looked up at her final shout. He looked amazed to see her but quickly entered the inn. Geoff found his way upstairs and when he entered the room he quickly strode to Roberta, giving her a warm hug.
“How are you here? You should be married off to father's choice by now.”
“It's a long story. Allow me to introduce someone to you. Geoff, this is Ethan.
Geoff turned:
“Ethan you old goat, where have you been for the past eight years.”
“I wondered if you would remember me Geoff.”
“How could I forget some of our exploits. They enraged our fathers and garnered us a reputation that I still have to live down to this day.”
“I feared that you might blame me for that reputation. I've followed your own for some time. Nowadays when I hear you mentioned, it is normally in conjunction with your prowess with a sword as opposed to our youthful indiscretions. Thank you for training your sister as well, it may well have saved her life.”
“Roberta, what happened?”
“As I said, it's a long story. Let's see if the inn can provide us dinner in our room here and we can relate it to you.”
The inn was happy to provide dinner in their room, especially when additional compensation was mentioned. As they ate, Roberta and Ethan related their story to Goeff, only omitting their thoughts on getting him to aid them by providing information. Once they had finished Geoff turned to Ethan:
“That details the last week but what happened to you for the years prior?”
“Well, it is a simple story. My father decided that, partially due to our indiscretions, he had to send me overseas to school. He said it was to learn to become a gentleman, but I believe that he just wanted me out of his hair. I had started to notice some odd things about our shipping company and had just started to investigate them when I was sent off.
I was at school for three years, and then I returned home for a year before returning to complete my studies. When I was on the ship returning for my final year, it was taken by pirates. I was given a choice: be impressed into their crew or be dead. I found it a rather easy choice to make. I rose among the pirates, partially due to my education and partially to my skills with the cutlass. Eventually I had obtained the rank of quartermaster and had been in the position for two years. I thought I would be there for quite some time longer until Roberta removed the captain. She has quite the temper, doesn't she?”
“She certainly does, as it sounds Master Gutren found out to his detriment.” replied Geoff.
“I had been growing more and more offended at the idea of being sold off like one of father's bundles of goods. I was fortunate enough to find a way to fix the situation and someone to help me do so. On that note, Geoff, it seems you are fond of Ethan. Would you like him for a brother?”
“Don't tell me that this scoundrel managed to rope you into agreeing to marry him in under a week?”
“Well brother, I would say that I had to lead him to the idea myself, but we did get there eventually.”
“I'm overjoyed for the two of you. Two of my favorite people in the world getting married, it will certainly make it easier to keep in touch.” Geoff said, giving a sideways glance at Ethan.
“Speaking of which, how is Madeline?” asked Roberta.
“She is fine and waiting for me at our room. I should return immediately, I hadn't realized how much time had passed.”
“Come back tomorrow Geoff, bring Madeline if you like. We have business to discuss now that we've caught up with one another.” Ethan offered.
“I'll do that, shall we say just after lunch?”
“Certainly, that will give us the morning to ourselves.” Roberta smiled slyly.
“Oh little sister, you haven't been, have you?”
“Just as you haven't been with Madeline?”
This time Roberta's face did not flush but Geoff's turned a bright shade of red.
“Stung by my own proprieties, wasn't I? Certainly if you are to be married, it is none of my business.”
“It happened the first time before we were to be married. It happened as soon as I could convince Ethan to take me. I thought that if I did manage to end up delivered to Master Gutren then I would no longer be virgin, father would be embarrassed, and I would be free.””
“Two of that list being highly desired.”
“I quite enjoy all three now, well I will, once I manage to embarrass father at least.”
“Oh, have you a plan?”
“Yes, one we'll discuss tomorrow. Return to your woman, she'll be worried for you.” scolded Roberta.
“Until tomorrow then.”

Chapter 14 – Future Plans
The next day dawned, and Roberta and Ethan slept on. They had been up late the night before after Geoff had left. Roberta was excited to be seeing her brother again and that excitement had translated over to her other endeavors. It was well into mid-morning before they awoke and after a slow and lazy bout of morning sex they finally got out of bed.
They had an early lunch and then, since they would be meeting Geoff right after the normal lunch time, they sat in the common room of the inn nursing ales. When Geoff and Madeline arrived, Roberta and Madeline embraced.
“I was so worried for you.” said Madeline.
“Well, you needn't be. I avoided what was planned for me and am making my own plans now.”
“So Geoff told me. Are you sure? You haven't known him that long.”
“It doesn't matter. He treats me as an equal, not as a dainty woman. We fit in many other ways as well. I am, indeed, sure.”
“Then my congratulations. Admittedly Geoff had nothing but praise for his past interactions with Ethan, but he also said that he was now a pirate.”
“As am I. We're a good match and that is another way in which we fit well. We are hoping Geoff will help us out some. Ethan had a plan that he used against his father and we can use a similar one against mine. But it will be more difficult without Geoff's help.”
“I know Geoff is angry with your father and has been for some time so I know he'll at least hear you out.”
The four of them retired to Ethan and Roberta's room for their discussion. Ethan put forth the plans he had used against his father, pointing out that many of the same discrepancies he had found in his families business were present in this case also. Roberta added in the fact that her father had literally put her up for auction, showing Geoff copies of the letters that had been in the chest of gold.
Geoff was fuming by the time the case had been made. When it was pointed out that there was a ship of pirates willing to exact justice on his father's business, he listened intently. When it was pointed out that a share of whatever cargoes were taken would belong to him and might allow him to set his own business up more rapidly while avenging the many wrongs of his father, he nodded. When asked outright if he could help provide information as to the cargoes and destinations of his father's ships, he agreed.
The information he could obtain would be several days behind the ship's departure in some cases. Ethan assured him that his ship could catch a cargo ship with a three day lead to most of the more prosperous ports in the area. If the information was obtained more rapidly there was no question of intercepting the
cargo at all. The most important bits were simply what the cargoes were and what forces the ships in question might have on board.
When the discussion ended Roberta and Geoff regarded each other.
“I never would've thought you'd agree so easily Geoff. You always seemed so upright and proper.”
“True, I was always on my best behavior at home. Some other time ask Ethan to relate some of our adventures together when we were younger. They were far more representative of my true self. But what about you? I always knew you were a bit wild, far too wild for father's tastes. But, a pirate? And a pirate mastermind at that? I never would have believed it.”
“I was always wild and wanted my freedom. Now I have an outlet for my wild,” she glanced meaningfully at Ethan, “and can you think of anything freer than a pirate's life? Yes there are the day-to-day duties, but you have those anywhere, and as a pirate you are not bound by the strictures of any 'proper' society. Perhaps one day it will be too much, but we needn't stay pirates forever. For example, if Ethan ever wants children I'll insist he relinquish the pirate life as the price for such. If things go as well as they have so far, we'll be able to set ourselves up quite nicely should that day ever arrive.”
Ethan blushed furiously when Geoff and Madeline followed Roberta's glance as she was speaking. Just as his color was returning to normal, she mentioned children and he blushed furiously again.
“Speaking of children already. Ethan my friend, I fear you may have landed your match finally.” said Geoff.
“Geoff, she is more than my match. She overpowered my wits multiple times the first day I met her.” replied Ethan, “Despite all that, there is none other I have ever met that is a better match for me.”
“On that note, I believe someone mentioned a wedding?” asked Madeline.
“I was thinking about that.” said Roberta, “I think that we should wait until the ship is repaired and be wed on deck. The crew, Geoff, and Madeline can witnesses and, if we are lucky, perhaps we can spend our honeymoon in the captain's cabin while we chase down one of my father's ships. That should be appropriately exciting, don't you think?” she asked Ethan.
Ethan jumped, he was taken by surprise when her hand slid onto his leg as she was speaking. When she spoke the word 'exciting' her hand slid to a more tender area and gave a squeeze. When Madeline and Geoff realized what had occurred they both burst out laughing. It was only a short moment before Roberta joined them. Finally Ethan ruefully joined in the laughter.
“I'm just incredibly happy that you decided to board our ship when you did.” said Roberta finally when the fit of laughter had passed them all by.
“Well, we had information that there was a cargo worth five thousand escudos on board. Little did we realize that said cargo could walk, talk, think, and fight like a shark.” answered Ethan.
Roberta and Ethan were wed on the deck of his ship the day after it came out of maintenance. Two days later their honeymoon began when they set sail chasing one of her father's ships that had a one day lead on them. They knew its destination and set a course to get ahead of it and lie in wait.
