“That was very articulate,” Gabe laughed.

  “Shut the fuck up.”

We all converged on the altar and looked around the outside. “It looks clear from here. Who’s going to get down on the ground and wiggle underneath?”

We all looked at each other and laughed. None of us were small enough to get all the way under this thing. I got down on my back and pulled out my phone, using the flashlight feature to look underneath. I wiggled all around the damn thing, but there was nothing.

“Nothing,” I sighed, standing up and brushing off the dirt. “Where do we go from here? We’ve already looked around the entire site and we’ve been through town.”

“Well, the locals aren’t talking and with nothing here, we have nothing else to go on,” Cazzo said.

“Maybe we should hang around for a few days,” Gabe suggested.

“We’ve already been here a week. I think what Becky found was just a coincidence,” Derek said. “I’m sorry, guys. We all want to find Chance, but I think we’re wasting time here.”

I knew he was right and it sucked. I had really been hoping that we would find something. It had been too long since Chance had been taken. We’d planned this trip out and looked into every aspect of Altar Q. We’d all been training and getting back in shape for this mission, but it was all a waste of time. There was nothing here.

  Watching from nearby…

This was a fucking disaster. Whoever had led them down here was a fucking fool. I had been using this location as a drop for the past two years and it had proven to be safe. But someone fucked up. If I hadn’t seen the men from Reed Security earlier in the week and called off the drop, they would have found what they were looking for today. Now I had to set up a new location. This one was no longer safe. Even though they didn’t find anything, that didn’t mean that they wouldn’t be paying attention from now on. And since they were looking in this area, chances were they would continue to look in Honduras. I would have to lead them in a different direction. The Middle East was a perfect location for a few former military personnel to disappear.

  CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE

  Cap

The last six months had been absolute shit for us. We’d gone out on mission after mission and we still hadn’t found a damn thing about Chance. We had searched most of Central America it seemed, and we had intel that was pointing us to the Middle East, but it was more difficult to get in there undetected. I wasn’t sure how much longer we could keep this up. We were running low on money and supplies. The women were getting pissy with being stuck at the house all the time and it didn’t help that we had so many changes around here.

Maggie had our baby a few months ago, a son we named Gunner. Lindsey was pregnant, as was Lucy, Kate, Cara, Vanessa, and Isa. It was a hormonal nightmare around the house and none of us could do right in their eyes. I guess that’s what you get when there’s nothing else to do but train and fuck.

I went over our numbers again and tried to figure out how I was going to keep stretching our money when we weren’t bringing in any jobs. The fact was, we couldn’t stay hidden if we wanted to survive, but we couldn’t make ourselves vulnerable either. Pretty soon, we were going to have to make a decision because none of us were getting paid as it was and we still only had a month or two left.

My phone rang and I didn’t recognize the number. I let it go to voicemail and pulled up my personal assets to see if there was anything I could liquidate. My phone rang again with the same number. I slid the green button and answered.

  “Hello?”

“Is this Sebastian Reed?” It was a male voice, shaky and quiet.

  “Yes.”

The line was silent for a moment and I considered hanging up. I wasn’t sure who could have my number, but if they did have it, it was most likely someone that was friends with someone I knew.

  “I know where Chance is.”
