Black Butterfly Page 17

by A. G. Hobson

Everything clears up just in time for me to see a stunningly handsome dazzling brown skinned man with black silk like hair floating. His wings are enormous and spread out like an eagle. He has a sword in hand that matches his beauty. He is wearing a white cloth around his groin area with white sandals that strap up to his calf. His legs dangle as he navigates toward me, his eyes fixed on me. His lips pursed in anger but his face serene. I turn away from his glorious face to a ‘boom’. The ground shakes and I wobble threatening to lose my balance. I steady myself as Belfagor bursts through the ground. He is bigger than I remember. Barl and Nija trails him. Heinous as ever. Belfagor wings spread out further than the angels that approach. He wastes no time getting to the battle. The angels strike, taking some of the human bodies immediately. I begin to sob at the unbelievable sight. I must be dreaming.

Belfagor spots me and offers me a grim, wide, evil smile as he rushes toward me. Barl screams out, “the girl is mine, master!”

“No! Kill SAriel! Kill her now!” Barl changes course and hurls toward Synth. She still struggles with the smaller demon.

“Synth! Watch out!” I warn her. Just as I’m snatched up.

“I am going to enjoy watching you die!” Nija screams out as she holds me up in the air. Belfagor reaches us and smirks.

“You think you have a chance because your counterparts have arrived…” he huffs. “Watch.” He takes off into the sky like a bird. His wings swirl the dust from the ground pulling some of it up with him. He meets an angel midway and strikes her, clawing at her neck. She clutches her throat and is immediately hurled to the ground. I clutch my mouth stifling my scream. Before I can do anything or protest Nija’s grasp, everything goes dark.

  Chapter 27

I can hear yelling and clinking, bodies hitting the ground. I am there but here at the same time. I’m in my body but I can’t see anything. Suddenly I hear an angelic male’s voice.

“Something is terribly wrong. We are losing this battle Lord, what should we do?”

“Trust that you will win. It is not over but has just begun.”

The voice soothes me. It is calming. I’m stunned. What is happening?

“Montana. We are dying. Really dying. If I should fall you will be unprotected.” JAriel speaks from within me. And before he can say another word, I feel a piercing pain in my chest. We are separated immediately as I fall to the ground.

Belfagor stands over me with a bright red fluid dripping from his claws. Panic spreads across my face.

“That’s right. Realize that I am going to win. We will rule earth then begin our siege of the heavenly plain.” He snarls. I search the battle area with my eyes. I see angels lying on the ground dying, their human counterparts severely wounded. Synth is lying in a pool of blood struggling to breathe.

How? How were they able to do this? Everything she told me was wrong.

Belfagor reaches in and grabs me by the throat. I feel his claws pierce through my skin. I wince and wail. The pain is unbearable. He slowly lifts me into the air.

“I finally can destroy the thorn in my foot. You are the reason Cam is not by my side during this victory. You are the reason that Nija lies over there lifeless. I am going to drink every drop of blood from your puny little body. See, I found a loophole in the rules. If I drink pure angel blood, I can kill an angel. And since Cam has both we all have been indulging for a while now. Gayle and Santana have been collecting from him. They all lie in the rubbish along with D’Naya and Bryant, but the battle is near its end here and no one can stop me.” He pulls me close and I can smell the stench of death on him, on his breath.

He has been consuming angel blood for years in order to kill them. He opens his mouth and his fangs drip with thick saliva. I close my eyes and wait for my demise. I hope and pray that Hayden keeps my family safe for as long as he can like he promised. I pray that my soul ascends as I prepare for death. Again, the sound of large wings flapping about steals my attention. The swoosh of air that trails them causes Belfagor to jerk forward, losing his grip on me. I fall to the ground just as a loud thud grabs our attention. I grab my wounded neck as blood trickles down to my cleavage.

  Hayden is here!

He rushes over to me. “Are you alright Montana?” I look up and he is in his demonic form. It doesn’t terrify me anymore. His wings are dark and the leather pants and jacket he is wearing tells of his style even as a dark agent for the devil. Belfagor shoves him out of the way reaching for me. Hayden turns to him.

“Father!” He grabs at his wrist and holds on to it. “Leave her!”

“No! We are almost there Hayden! Look out at the battle. We are winning. All of the angels and their human reincarnates are dying.” He smiles.

“How? How are you winning? We were nowhere near prepared for this.”

“Oh yes we were. And your mingled blood is the reason. Drinking your blood over the years acquired by Gayle and Santana, is the reason. If it flows through me, I can kill them all!” He raises his sword.

The battle is subsiding and the angels are mostly wounded. Synth is fighting for dear life. Belfagor lifts his hand and fire rains down on the field. He directs it toward Synth and Hayden slaps his wrist directing it away from her.

“No! Cam, where do your loyalties lie? Help us finish this!” His hands light up with a burning flame as he holds on to his father’s wrist. Belfagor begins to tremble. “What are you doing?” The fire surges up to his shoulder consuming his arm then entire body. Hayden holds on and doesn’t let go as he beefs up the flame. His eyes turn red, the fire gets hot. I can feel it as I take several steps back. I cover my mouth as Hayden’s wings brighten turning red then black. The battles that are being fought around us halt as the demons watch one of their leaders flail in the flames his only son set upon him.

“No Cam, no!’ Belfagor screams through the blaze overwhelming his body as he staggers backward. He turns to run toward the opening they entered through, Hayden picks my sword up from the ground slowly walking toward his father.

“I realized something, Belfagor. You have redundantly spewed your agenda to me, reminding me repeatedly how no one would be able to defeat me. You reminded me that I was the key to everything. And the only thing you failed to mention was that no one on earth or in hell would be able to defeat me either. I am tired of carrying out your father’s will. From now on, I carry out my own. Hell will no longer use me as a puppet. I know this will not kill you, but you will never leave your hellfire home again.” He lifts the sword and plunges it through his heart. He takes his hand and places it over the wound and sucks a white light from him. The light pulls as it leaves in a swivel out of his chest into Hayden’s palm. Belfagor falls to the ground and the flames dissipate. Hayden waves across his body and he disappears. He turns around and walk across the field sending all the demons left back to hell. He stops by each of the humans that lay wounded or what looks to be lifeless waving his hand and they disappear. The angels that were still battling began to ascend back to the heavens. I look over at JAriel and he is gasping. I hurry over to him and sit at his side. When Hayden spots me, his wings begin to flap taking flight. He is at my side in a blink. He kneels beside me and places his hand over the wound and JAriel grabs it. He holds on to Hayden's wrist just like he held his father. A bright blinding light overtakes him. Hayden’s wings turn from black to red then white. His hideous red skin flushes white then light brown turning him bronze colored. His beautiful human skin is returned but his wings remain. He is wearing a white cloth that covers his groin. JAriel speaks.

“What dampered your light, now flashes bright. Your birthright of darkness now wields a sword for heaven. Without taking your soul, you are no longer an agent for hell. Live and protect God’s angels, rise GAliel.” JAriel’s body vanishes along with the other angels. Synth sits up and then stands. She runs over to us and Hayden is still kneeling with his eyes closed.

“What just happened?” I reach out and touch his shoulder. He doesn't speak to me im
mediately.

“What Belfagor and Satan bred for evil, God has adopted for his army. Hayden is now a battle angel.” Synth says smiling. “Hayden, you saved us. You saved us all and mankind.”

“For now. Hell will not take this lightly and my father’s wrath will be inevitable.” He opens his eyes and looks at me. They are as beautiful as they were. He is the most gorgeous creature I have ever seen in my lifetime and maybe even before that. He stands and grabs my hand pulling me up into his arms. He kisses me. “I would defy heaven, earth and hell for you Montana. Don’t ever leave my sight again. I thought you were dead. I thought Belfagor killed you.” He whispers through our lip lock.

“You saved me. You saved us all. And, now you have a new destiny.”

“One that will require me to give up my bad ways.” He smirks. “Come on. Let me go and get your family. But we must clean you up first.” He turns to look at Synth. “I need to get to know my good side now…I guess. Don’t be a stranger, mother.” He smirks.

“I promise I will not. But right now, I need to go and fix all of this. There are people that will wake up from their slumber soon, including my parents. Goodbye for now Hayden. There will be time for us.” She disappears and Hayden wraps his arms around me before we do the same.

When I get to my house, I quickly shower. The blood and soot that covers me begins to smell like despair. Hayden shifts, hiding his wings and returning his skin to its normal color while he waits. I wrap a towel around me and hurry back to my room after my shower. Hayden is sitting on the bed with a towel on as well from his shower in the other bathroom, looking out of my window.

“What’s wrong?” I say as I approach him and place my hand on his shoulder.

“I’m not sure I want this mantle. I am not good enough to be an angel. I don’t know if I want to stop being what I’ve always been.”

“I know they don’t expect you to be perfect. You were a demon.”

“No, not that. I want to be with you. In every way. I want to be able to make love to you without being punished.”

“Well… Let’s do it one last time. Technically, you’re still a demon.” I smile, knowing that I am the devilish one right now.

He smiles at my gesture and reaches out to yank my towel. It falls to the floor revealing my naked body. He pulls me down onto his lap and slides his hands up my back. We kiss passionately, seductively assaulting one another. My heart races as his hands caress my body. I missed his lips, his hands on my skin. It's not long before he is entering me. What would I do if I could not physically feel his love and desire for me? I’m straddling him riding like a stallion and I don't regret a minute of it. We move in sync, our bodies gratifying one another. Sweat drizzles down my chin between my breasts and he licks it up like dripping ice cream sliding down a cone. I toss my head back as we end, together.

Hayden falls back onto the bed and I lie down on top of him. I place my hands on his chest and rest my chin on them.

“I really have no desire to be good. It’s just not in me Montana. Will you still love me if I remain who I was born to be?”

I don’t answer. I just look at him.

“I’m not going back to Belfagor though. I just don’t want to be an angel. The load is too restrictive. I just want to live.”

“You’ll live but the power you possess comes with rules and stipulation. You’ll have to answer to someone one day.”

“But for now, I only answer to you.” He tilts his head to kiss me and I notice that his pupils are blood red. I look up to see a black butterfly floating above us. I look back at him and his brown skin is warm and flushing red. He is going to be the death of me.
