Ellie smiled up at him, her face bright with joy. “God, I love you so much, Nick,” she whispered, her voice thick with tears. “Yes, I’ll marry you.”
He cupped her face in his hands and looked at her lovingly. “My Ellie,” he whispered. “I’ve never been so scared in my entire life as I was last night.” He wiped her tears away with his thumbs when she started crying in earnest. “Enough tears now, baby. I’ve got you and I’m sure as hell never letting you go.” Ellie sniffled and bit down on her lip, but Nick held her chin in his hand and placed his thumb on her mouth to stop her. “That poor, abused lip of yours,” he said quietly, reaching down to kiss it. “Now, just to be clear, my future missus, there will be no living in separate houses. I don’t care if you win the lottery and have millions of dollars at your disposal, you are living with me in my house from this day forward, and that’s final.”
Ellie looked up at him with wide, serious eyes. “Yes, sir.”
“And I hope you’re prepared to have a couple of regular visitors.”
Ellie tilted her head in confusion. “What do you mean?”
Nick smiled. “Colleen and Charlie. Thanks to you, Charlie had his surgery and he’s going to be okay.”
“Really? He is?” Ellie asked, her face lighting up.
“Yes Ellie, really. And do you know what else we’re going to do together in our house?”
Ellie shook her head. “What?”
“We shall take frequent baths. You in the mood for one right now, sweetheart?”
Ellie’s face broke out into a mischievous grin. “Will there be bubbles?”
Nick laughed as he carefully lifted her into his arms and carried her into the bathroom. “Yes, sweetheart. There will most certainly be bubbles.”
