Legacy of the Shadow’s Blood Page 63

by E G Bateman

After two weeks of fearing I’d just blown the bank on a pipe dream, I got the call.

Forming the characters and bouncing dialogue around with Michael has been a hoot. I fell in love with Lexi the moment I visualised her clinically decapitating a vampire with her thighs (sorry, Dick). I love them all, and hope that you will come to love them too.

  Elaine.

  Author Notes - Michael Anderle

  April 13, 2020

THANK YOU for reading our story!

We have a few of these planned, but we don’t know if we should continue writing and publishing without your input.

Options include leaving a review, reaching out on Facebook to let us know, and smoke signals.

Frankly, smoke signals might get misconstrued as low-hanging clouds, so you might want to nix that idea…

  SERIOUSLY?

I don’t remember the part of Elaine’s story in Bali nearly like she did. Also, I thought I DID read what you gave me to read (your other story) while in Bali, and you were right.

I read it because you spent that much effort to get the stuff into my hands.

I don’t do Vegas like that because it is MEANT to be an all-inclusive event that just about anyone can get to (or as close as we can make it.)

So, feeling a bit of guilt that she did all she could to make her dream happen, of course I would read it.

And yes, Ellie and I argue like that because we are friends and she has problems. I’m the normal one, I promise.

Me normal, her not. Not her, me.

Her problems start and end with “she’s British,” and there are a whole lot of funny other reasons in the middle of that British sandwich explanation.

But, this isn’t about ELC. This is about Elaine.

One thing that hit me in the gut with Elaine was her super funny dialogue. Her challenge was fitting that dialogue into a story.

Bali was something like January 4th, 2019.

Elaine and I started discussing a collaboration and just having conversations on writing in general on January 16th, 2019. (I had stayed over on that side of the world for extra days. I don’t think we hit the shores of the US again until about the very end of January.)

Then, Elaine went “all-in” and took time off work to finish her trilogy. I warned her that writing as your only occupation is very hard for those not accustomed to having no rules.

  Elaine didn’t believe me.

Here are a few snippets from our conversations. Note the dates.

Cool, me too. Maybe catch up there. (London Book Fair – Mike.)

You were dead right about people not working not being efficient writers. I'm on kind of a sabbatical. Today was the first writing day. Anyhoo, turns out The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is really good.

No Netflix today. Netflix is the work of Satan.

  michael 11:53 PM

Yeah, better figure this stuff out!

You're not wrong! Yesterday went better without the Netflix! I've been in organizing mode. I've finally listed out my characters (which I should have done from the beginning) and found a couple I'd forgotten that I can add to the current book. I'm surprised by how many I've killed. It's like SIMS all over again.

Thanks to the advice of Grace Snoke I've now got a wiki to list the characters for the readers (and me!). I'm glad I've taken the time to work on this.

This series has plot twists so I don't want to disappoint the readers who will be expecting to be surprised in the last book. But while books with twists are great to read, they're a time-consuming pain in the arse to write.

THIS !! >>>> "But while books with twists are great to read, they're a time-consuming, pain in the arse to write."

Pain or not, Elaine worked hard, and I hope you enjoyed the fruits of her talent & labor!

Remind me next time to plug in the parts that started THIS book. ;-)

Mike’s Diary: “Sometimes life just is.”

So, my company is testing new software to allow us a virtual experience while we work. As of now (4/13/2020), it is performing better than I could have hoped in bringing those who collaborate with LMBPN together, no matter the location or time of day (or night.)

This same software, I hope, will allow us to create virtual meetings with fans, and (I’m trying, but I’m not sure the company behind the software will make it affordable) I want to create a place for fans to get together and create all sorts of fun stuff with LMBPN.

And frankly just have a place to hang a while.

If you would like to know more (and are on Facebook) join us on the Kurtherian Gambit Facebook Group For Fans and Authors

  Link: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=127989844503323&ref=br_rs

I hope to have something up to start testing this in the next week or two. We will start with small groups, and possibly move up from there.

  Clean is the New Dream

My office isn’t messy… exactly. It is lived-in chic.

Honestly, a whole lot of the lived-in part. (If you add chic to the end of any descriptor, you immediately sound artsy. No, really, try it.

  “That’s ugly.”

  “No, that’s ugly-chic.”

“That man-cave crap has got to go.”

“No, that’s man-cave chic. It stays.”

  “That’s hideous.”

  “No, that’s hideous—”

“If you end that with ‘chic,’ I will shove my cottony house slippers so far up your ass you will be burping tiny clouds.”

“Right. So, what now? I lost my train of thought with that visual.”

(You thought ‘Hideous chic, and that would have worked, #AmIRight?)

I will have to take another set of boxes to the storage room tomorrow after our meetings, and maybe then I’ll have a bit of “clean” in my office. Judith cleaned the living room and Kitchen (both places she works from) yesterday, and believe it or not, I am a bit #Jealous of her clean areas.

(Don’t worry, I’m having trouble believing it too.)

I’m So Going to Regret This.

So, I have the new 2020 iPad (#SupportApple and #ItsGoodToHaveAppleEmployeesWithDiscountsAsFriends along with #SupportFriendsByBuyingApple), but I don’t like using it just as it is.

I want either a Smart Keyboard Folio or the new More Magic Keyboard for the iPad, or maybe something clamshell (but won’t that effectively make it a Mac?).

Have I mentioned I’m seriously impatient? I work six often seven days a week (#ThankGodILoveWhatIDo), and when it comes to my technology, I splurge on myself. It’s the one thing I can point to my wife and say ‘it’s a write-off’ and ‘Don’t harsh my (writing) buzz, woman.’

(Actually, only one of those responses works on Judith. #ThankGodAppleDoesn’tRefreshOften and #IReallyDoWait2YearsBetweeniPhonesNow.)

I swear Apple better not upgrade their keyboard on the larger MacBooks in 2021, or I might have to try therapy to hold-back on an upgrade (yes, I have the 2016 MacBook 16”.) If therapy is more expensive than my purchase, doesn’t that make it smarter just to purchase the product?

  I think it does.

Are you paying attention, Steve? (#StephenCampbellNeedsaNewMacbook13Pro)

Anyway. My iPad is sitting in its box unopened because I don’t have a keyboard for it. I can’t get the Magic Keyboard until May at this point, or maybe later. Since I suffer from #ImpatienceIsAThing, I am looking to see if anything cool is out for my iPad that includes a touchpad for mousing around.

You know, if—and this is for the benefit of my fans who might wish to know—I buy a clamshell with touchpad and report that information back here in a future Author Note, that’s research and something I can write off on taxes, right?

>   So, I might sacrifice a larger credit card bill on the altar of #DoingItForTheFans.

If you happen to write a review for any of our books, maybe drop a line in the review “I Support Mike and his Magic Keyboard!” (Or, if you hate Apple products, feel free to suggest I buy other technology. Especially really REALLY expensive hardware that I can point to and show my wife how frugal’ I was with the purchases I have already made or might make soon.
