Return to Earth: Mike Stedman: Book 3 Page 18

by D. R. Rosier

“Chrystal, raise shields, destroy those missiles, and move us toward the ship. Prioritize protecting our new allied ships.”

They had just about thirty seconds to get up to the bridge, which was doable.

Chrystal replied dubiously over the ship’s communications as they entered the lift to the command deck.

  “New allies?”

He said, “Until proven otherwise yes. I’ll explain later, and you and the others can go over all the data.”

They ran down the corridor, or at least he did. Xylla rolled, quickly.

He looked at the hologram and sensor data, the Sarians had fifty thousand missiles in the air, and were launching another wave already. No wonder the Canosians had trouble one on one. He didn’t doubt his own technology, they could just let the missiles hit them without effect. Knocking them out of the sky fast enough before they hit the Canosians was another matter.

He wasn’t sure the automated systems could react to the scanning data and destroy that many missiles fast enough before they closed. It should, theoretically, but often reality didn’t match the calculations on paper. Nothing worked at a hundred percent efficiency.

He grinned as Alyndra handed him a coffee right before he sat down, and he spanked her ass playfully in thanks. He felt love and amusement from his mate. He really needed to thank Chrystal for that in a significant way, he was much more relaxed around his life-bonded mate because of it. Didn’t doubt himself or their relationship any longer at all.

The missiles were in range, and his shields were up. Five thousand distortions surrounded his craft at five miles out, in a large sphere, and started to fire at all missiles in range. Only about two thirds could fire, since the other third was blocked from the missiles by his own ship.

Still, that was three thousand level three subspace energy pulses three times a second. Which of course, translated to nine thousand missiles being destroyed per second. It was totally insane, yet, it wasn’t enough on its own. At that rate of fire, it would take about six seconds to destroy a wave of missiles. It might be enough for the second and subsequent waves, the missiles would take ten seconds to close after passing the five light second range of fire. As the Sarians were firing a wave every thirty seconds it could be met and contained. But this first wave had gotten too close before they started.

He’d made another mistake, he should have used his overlay and given the orders before even reaching the shuttle, instead of waiting to get on the damned ship. It wasn’t him that would pay the price for being cocky though.

His ship still managed to take out more than half the missiles.

The Canosians weren’t idle however, and joined in teams of two, each team fired on one of the missiles and destroyed it. Another twelve thousand five hundred missiles went up. The remaining some odd twelve thousand of the missiles started hitting craft.

There was a twenty percent failure rate on the missiles, overloading emitters was never a good idea. Those missiles were eaten by the Canosian fighter’s shields, or their own subspace energy in a suicidal flash of energy.

A few missiles hit them to meet the same fate, the remaining missiles destroyed nine thousand two hundred and four of the Canosian fighters, leaving just over fifteen thousand left.

He grimaced, that was a hell of a mistake. His only consolation was if he wasn’t helping they all would have died, but he resolved that he would do better.

The second wave got a little more than halfway to their ships before they were all destroyed.

He ordered, “When we get in range, use the shields. That thing is too big, even for three thousand holes at a time. Cut it to pieces.”

Xia looked over and tilted her head, “You’ve been holding out on us.”

He watched as the third wave was cut to pieces, the Sarians were unable to launch a fourth. A powerful beam of level three subspace energy reached out and cut through their weak level two shields like they weren’t even there. The ship fell into pieces, like dicing an onion, many of them exploding and taking out the other nearby pieces.

The Canosians flew in behind, and swarmed the wreckage. As one, several thousand ships pulsed their shields at a low percentage of their capability. Without any protection at all, the remaining pieces of the humongous ship were utterly destroyed while their ships easily absorbed the attacks of their neighbors.

He turned to Xia, “Very new, in fact, that’s what I was doing the last couple of days. It wasn’t my intention to hide it. I built the new system specifically to meet the threat of the Canosian’ fighters, it turns out to be just as effective against the Sarian’ missiles.”

Although, he had no intention of sharing it. He’d shared level two with the Xarans because it was necessary for the empire’s survival and to keep down casualties. With level two, it would take the Xaran ships longer to defeat the Sarians, but the outcome wasn’t in doubt. Especially if he helped.

Xia nodded and turned to Xylla, who extended a pseudopod and touched Xia. He knew that Xylla was transferring all of the information to Xia from their talk on the planet, and the data that was shared. Not to mention the DNA of the Canosian species.

He did the same with Chrystal, a bulk transfer. He also gave access to the data for the others to study. It would take them longer to catch up, outside of the general situation.

Xia got up and gave him a chaste hug.

“We will take our shuttle over to the Canosian carrier. Hopefully you didn’t scare them too badly.”

  Xylla snickered.

He still wasn’t sure about it, but trusted their judgement. If the worst happened, he’d just have two races to remove from space instead of one. Xia’s death wouldn’t go unanswered if it happened.

After they left the bridge, and went down to their ship, he pondered the last hour or so. It could have gone better, but it also could have gone much worse. The missiles were a ridiculous waste of resources, but he imagined without the overloading of the emitters they might not be able to match the Canosians with turrets or fighters in an engagement.

At least they were smart enough not to use overloaded emitters on their ships.

He turned to Dahlia, “You know any pilots? I was thinking of making a fleet of one to two hundred.”

He thought that would be enough. Even if he figured a full hour, which was more than enough time for the new ship to jump to a system and destroy everything in it. That was two hundred systems an hour. Considering there were millions of stars, but only a very small percentage of those were habitable worlds in the Sarian empire. It would only take a fleet that size a little over a month to knock them out of space.

Really, with the new technology, it would be an extermination, not a war. Though, he couldn’t get cocky, who knew when one of his probes would find a bigger danger?

  Chapter Thirty-One

It took them just over fifteen minutes to return to Earth, and they once again hovered over the space port. The summit was still ongoing, they’d only been gone for three days. Although, there were signs it was winding down, as they wriggled over a few small points.

Chrystal was building the destroyers with the probe in Andromeda already, and he knew it wouldn’t be hard to find Mirosian volunteers to pilot them. The weapons would be automated, they only needed a pilot to get the ship within weapons range of the enemy, and to identify other ship types to the system as necessary. The Sarian’s world invader class ship wasn’t the only vessel in their military, just the one most used.

As for him and his mates? Except for Chrystal who was flying the ship, they never even noticed their return to Earth, his ladies were very glad to see him return from the planet. Between that, how well things had gone, and the adrenaline from battle, they were in bed long before they finished crossing the void back to the Milky Way.

He loved them all so much, it hurt.

He sighed in pleasure as he buried himself deep into Chrystal’s tight sex. Chrystal’s own sigh, was muted by Nadia’s pleasure. He was taking Chrystal doggie style, her s
weet ass shook as he watched his length leave and once again thrust into her body. He looked up, and locked eyes with Nadia, as his raven-haired green-eyed beauty ground her pussy against Chrystal’s face.

Out of the corner of his eye, he could see Alyndra was on top of Dahlia, in the sixty-nine position. He could feel Alyndra’s blissful eagerness as she both pleasured, and was pleasured by, Dahlia.

He heard Chrystal’s moan of approval as Nadia exploded and soaked Chrystal’s face, and then felt her tight sheath convulse and pulse along his length as her moan became a gasp of ecstasy. All his mates were moaning, gasping, and panting in pleasure. Sex wasn’t the end of their relationship, but they were definitely all enjoying that aspect of it very much.

He managed to ride it out, as he pounded into Chrystal, her body trembling, bucking, and pushing back against him as he shoved her face into Nadia’s pleasure with every hard thrust. It was just two minutes later though, that his loves reached their height again, and a moment later he heard Alyndra and Dahlia cry out in ecstasy.

His balls boiled, and his body froze in overwhelming pleasure as he buried himself one more time.

It was so intense, as he and Nadia kept their eyes locked as they both rode the waves of pleasure which overwhelmed their bodies and minds, as he filled Chrystal’s sexy body with his essence.

He collapsed on the bed as they separated, and Chrystal and Nadia snuggled into his sides. He turned his head, and saw that similarly Alyndra and Dahlia were in a light embrace, caressing each other softly. Lovingly even, and it warmed him to see it.

He knew they had a lot of sex, but it was so much more than that, they each would die for each other, and they were a hell of a team. He wasn’t sure what the future would bring, but one thing he was very sure of, they would face it together...

  Epilogue

It was two years later. It had taken far longer than he’d expected, but he was finally on vacation.

The whole issue with M33 had taken longer than he’d expected as well, and there had been a few other speed bumps along the way. In the end, the Canosians had a hold there, and the treaty between them was very strong. The humans of Earth had finished the treaty just days after their return, and even seemed to be following it as they moved about the galaxy. It had only taken another two weeks before Australia broke the subspace and FTL barrier.

So far, no one else had had reached level three subspace that he knew of, but there were a few worlds with level two. So far that hadn’t been a problem, those worlds hadn’t challenged the status quo. Perhaps because they knew Mars wouldn’t hesitate to come to the aid of Xaran if they did.

Mars scared the shit out of the worlds that didn’t know them well, but he was doing his best to combat that perception.

They still considered their ship their home, it was where they worked, played, and lived their lives for the most part. But, they’d built a vacation home on Mars, right outside the original Mars city. It was more of a mansion really, with twelve bedrooms, and a large swimming pool in the backyard.

Some of his parents were coming by later, and some siblings. He planned to barbeque.

He was on a wide lawn chair, with Alyndra cuddled into his side. Dahlia was in the pool with Nadia, swimming laps, and having fun playing in the water between heats. He turned and smiled at Nadia, who was in a bikini, the top temporarily unstrapped as she fed his daughter, his firstborn and hopefully the first of many. He’d never seen her looking so beautiful before.

He sighed in relaxation, and pulled Alyndra tighter against him to kiss her forehead.

Finally, a vacation. The next two weeks, he wouldn’t do a damned…

His thoughts were cut off by a transmission. It wasn’t a conversation, just a message, a priority message from the Xaran Empire.

Xenia’s voice said, “Emergency council session in one hour.”

He muttered in disgust, “Fuck, I’ll never get a vacation.”

He felt Alyndra’s amusement, as the rest of his mates smirked at his outburst.

Nadia said reprovingly, “Watch your language, baby present.”

He shut his eyes and groaned, and not in a good way…

  Afterword:

I hope you enjoyed the story. This was the third and final book for Mike Stedman. This kind of story is open ended, but I wrapped it up the best I could. Hope I did well. Sort of an HEA ending, with a pointed reminder that life goes on. Poor Mike, he really wanted that vacation.
