“What?” Abi practically shouted.
“I know, I know, you’re feeling upset.” Stewart held up his hands. “But it’s just not going to work out.”
“And why not?”
“Because being an assistant is not the dream you have for your life. You want to be a writer, and I believe you are going to do that and have a wonderful, full-time career as a writer. But in order to do that, you can’t be my assistant anymore.”
Abi stood with her mouth hanging open. Of course she wanted to be a writer, but she still couldn’t pay her bills with writing right now. “But, Stewart…” she began.
Stewart held up his hands to stop her. “There’s more. I know you worry about your finances and making it as a writer. While I think you will be successful and you won’t have to worry about that. I also need to fire you for another reason.
“Abi, you have changed my life. I’m a different man, a better man because I met you and because of the light you’ve brought into my life. I don’t think you will have time to be my assistant anymore, because I hope you will be busy planning the best wedding I’ve ever been to.” At that moment he dropped down on his knee and pulled out a small black box. He opened it to reveal a sparkling diamond that must have been custom designed for her. “Abi Williams, will you marry me?”
Abi felt like she had run through every emotion possible in the last two minutes, but this feeling of happiness was her favorite. She didn’t waste any time before yelling out
“Yes! Yes I will!’
Stewart stood and placed the ring on her finger before taking her in his arms and kissing her. The sound of fireworks echoed over them as they celebrated together.
“One last thing,” Stewart touched his nose to Abi’s as they stood close.
“What’s that?” Abi smiled.
“Will you still bring me coffee?”
Abi threw her head back and laughed. “Yes, sir, Mr. Vincent. Every single day.”
