  “Get ready… Swallow…”

I gritted my teeth and grunted when my orgasm hit me. I came so hard that I nearly fell over. I held her head in place and finished in her mouth. She groaned so loud that the people in the rest of the clubhouse could probably hear her despite my cock plugging her up. Not that it mattered though. I was gonna pour every last drop inside of me down her throat.

I kept coming. Thick pulses making my body shake. I held my breath for as long as I could until I gave her everything I had.

I sighed a deep breath and released her from my grip. Kristen pulled off of me and gasped for air. Her mouth hung open, spit and cum dripping down her chin. Eyes watery. I’d made a mess of her face. But it only took a few seconds for a smile to appear.

She worked her way back up to her feet then looked up at me, licking the remnants of what I’d given her from her lips.

“I have to go,” she said. “I’m having dinner. With Emerson.”

“He’s your boyfriend. You don’t have to explain anything to me.”

“I… I can’t really talk to you or call you. But once this is all over next week, we’ll catch up some more.”

  “Of course.”

Kristen left my room quickly. I straightened myself up the best I could before heading for the exit. Nothing sounded more satisfying right now than having a beer.

I opened up the door and Roman stood there, leaning up against the wall with his arms crossed.

  “Roman… What’s up?”

He stared at me. He was always serious most of the time. I was used to it. But this time… This time I knew something was up.

“Call a meeting,” he said bluntly. “We need to talk.”

  Chapter 13

  SEBASTIAN

While the rest of the club shuffled into church, Roman leaned up against the wall. He kept staring at me like he’d been doing this entire time. I didn’t bother questioning him. I’d get my answers soon enough.

“What the fuck’s going on?” Hunter said. “You never call a meeting at night. Especially when the clubhouse is as packed as it is.”

“Important shit,” Roman said. “With the whole thing going down in a few days, gotta make sure everything is just right.”

  “Is something off?”

  “Maybe there is.”

Roman took a step toward me and raised his eyebrows.

“You wanna tell everybody who she is,” he said.

  “What are you talking about—”

“Kristen,” he cut me off. “That girl who was just in here.”

“Kristen,” Aden said. “Pretty girl. I’m guessing she’s not just another club groupie.”

“No, she isn’t. Go on, Seabass.”

As intimidating as Roman was, he was still my brother. I trusted the man with my life. This time wasn’t any different. I had nothing to hide.

“She’s an old girlfriend,” I said. “An ex I broke up with a long time ago.”

“Funny how an ex would come by to visit you,” Ezra said.

“That’s not even the best part,” Roman said. “She’s not just an ex-girlfriend. She’s Emerson’s old lady.”

“What?” Hunter said. “Emerson? As in, the man we’re about to rob, Emerson?”

  “The same one.”

“I don’t see what difference that makes,” I said.

  “It makes every difference.”

Roman took his seat right next to me then turned to the rest of the club.

“I should’ve known,” he said. “I should’ve known you couldn’t let that shit go.”

  “It doesn’t make a difference,” I said.

“Not to you but it does to us. Every man in this room is putting himself on the line. We’re putting an operation together in less than a few days to rob the biggest drug kingpin in town. And we’re able to do it because you’ve been planning it for months.”

  “That’s right.”

“Were you planning on doing it for the money or are you trying to get her back?”

I laughed at the suggestion. But I couldn’t deny that there was some truth to it. Roman knew me better than anybody. I looked at him and didn’t have to say a word for him to figure it out.

“Yeah, that’s what I thought,” he said. “You’re willing to put the club on the line just for a shot at your old lady. I should’ve fucking known once you laid eyes on her—”

“Look,” I said. “I’ll be honest with you all. I’ll put everything out on the table. I care about Kristen. Winning her back… Shit, I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t on my mind.”

  “I knew it—”

“But… This isn’t just about her. The money is still on the table. It’s real. We’ll all get our fair share. We’re heading to Emerson’s place to take his wallet, not take his girl. Convincing Kristen to get rid of him is… just an added bonus.”

I stood up from my seat and pressed my palms against the table.

“I get it,” I said. “I should’ve been honest with you all from the start.”

I glanced over at Roman. There was some frustration in his eyes.

“I regret not telling you all the complete truth. But Kristen is my business, not any of yours.”

“If Kristen is involved with Emerson, it’s our business, too,” Roman said.

“You’re right. And now you all know. But the plan doesn’t change. We take Emerson’s cash, same as usual. The plan doesn’t… change.”

Hunter, Aden and Ezra were all staring at me. I didn’t know them for as long as I knew Roman, so it was hard to get a read on whatever it was they were thinking. But what I did see were a bunch of proud men. Loyal men. Men who’d at least listen to me and respect everything I had to say.

I couldn’t let them have any doubts about this. I had to fix this.

I thought about it for a second and laughed when it came to me.

“I was talking to Murph the other day,” I said. “He was the original Devil. The only Devil left from back in the day. He’s seen some shit. All of it. The Devils had a violent past. Everything you could imagine.

“Now we’re the Devils. We carry the mantle for him. You know what Murph said to me? He said that we represent Ivory. We represent justice in this town. And if there’s anybody in this town who deserves justice, it’s the piece of shit who’s poisoning the streets with his junk and every city around us.”

The more I thought about it, the more adamant I was getting.

“No,” I said as I shook my head. “Forget about my old lady for a second. Forget about the money. Just think about the patch you’re all wearing on your chest. Where it comes from. What it represents. This is our town. A man like Emerson doesn’t belong here. We have to do what the Devils would do.”

“And what would the Devils do?” Aden asked.

“We take matters into our own hands. Hit him where it hurts. That’s what matters.”

I’d gotten so worked up that my heart was pounding in my chest. I took a seat and didn’t realize how tired I’d gotten.

“It’s up to you though,” I said. “If you wanna back out now, you can back out. But if just one of you backs out, then the whole thing is done. I need all of you on this.”

“Take a vote,” Roman said. “Back out of the plan to go after Emerson. Yes or no.”

“I don’t remember my grandfather very well,” Ezra said. “I only have vague memories of him. But if he was the man I think he was, he wouldn’t have any regrets in his life. The Devils rode the streets of Ivory for years. They wore their patches with pride. I feel the same way. I’m not going anywhere.”

I gave Ezra a nod then looked at Aden.

“I never cared much for the money,” Aden said. “I’ve been a millionaire before. Shit didn’t matter because there’s only so much you can buy with it. Any other situation, I would’ve turned you down.”

  “And now?” I asked.

“Now… It doesn’t matter if this was all because of a girl or not. Emerson’s been around
in Ivory long enough. It’s time we do something about him.”

  “Right… Joker?”

Hunter leaned back in his seat. He put his hands behind his head and smirked at me.

“You know, for the longest time I thought you were gay,” he said.

“Shut the fuck up,” I responded.

He burst into laughter along with the rest of the table.

“I know what it’s like to be with someone special. To have a second chance with someone you thought you’d never see again. Maybe this is about the girl. Maybe it isn’t. All I know is that if it was Faye, I’d do everything I could to stay by her side. I’d risk everything for her, my entire life if I had to.”

“You already have,” I said. “I was there. Remember?”

“I remember… You do what you have to do, Sebastian. I’m still here riding with you.”

Everybody turned toward Roman but his eyes were focused on me.

“Last man,” I said. “It’s up to you.”

He kept staring at me and put his head down to hide the grin that was slowly curling onto his lips.

“Shit,” he said as he shook his head. “I should’ve stayed in the fucking city. I knew you were up to something.”

“If you stayed in the city, you would’ve never met Mia,” I said.

He stopped smiling and pondered what I said for a second.

“You’re right,” he said with a nod. “All of the fucking crazy schemes you’ve got running around in your head… Somehow they always have a way of working themselves out. This shit is the craziest thing you’ve ever come up with.”

  “No risk, no reward.”

“That’s one way of putting it…”

He got up from his seat and looked at the rest of the club.

“Everything is in place,” he said. “Plan is still on.”

I already knew the decision that he would make. I knew what all of them would decide. But I couldn’t deny that I felt a sense of relief knowing that they were all still on my side.

“All right,” Hunter said as he jumped up from his chair. “We done here? Because there’s a beer out there with my name on it.”

Hunter, Aden and Ezra headed back into the clubhouse. I stood up straight and fixed my kutte while Roman kept eyeballing me.

“You’re not really mad about Kristen, are you?” I asked.

“About Kristen? Nah. I know she’s still special to you. I had a feeling that she had everything to do with this.”

“Then what was this whole charade about? Pissed about me because I was lying?”

“It wasn’t about you. It was about them.”

  “Them?”

“They’ve all been patches for less than a year. Had to make sure they were the men we thought they were. A lesser man would’ve backed out. But a Devil…”

“Life is Hell before you get to Heaven. Those men out there are ready to ride with us no matter where we go.”

“Right now, there’s nowhere I’d rather be.”

  I put a hand on Roman’s shoulder.

“When this is all over, we’ll all still be riding together. I won’t let them down. Trust me on that.”

  Chapter 14

  KRISTEN

  One week later…

I sighed a soft breath through my nose and stared at my reflection. My throat bobbed up and down with an anxious swallow.

  Stay focused.

When James walked into the room, I put my eyeliner up to my face to hide the tension beginning to twist around in my stomach.

Despite how stressed out I was, Emerson was just the opposite. He whistled softly to the classical music playing in the background. His bedroom was as lavish as the rest of his mansion. He had every reason to be in a good mood at every moment. Tonight wasn’t an exception.

He stood in front of his mirror as he put his shirt over himself. He buttoned everything up slowly. I observed him from the corner of my eye, wondering if I would ever get the opportunity I was waiting for.

“How are you feeling tonight, Kristen?”

  “W-what?”

I jerked my head to the side, wondering if he’d noticed what I was up to.

“How are you feeling? Are you excited about tonight?”

“Excited… Yes… I don’t know if that’s the word I’d use. But I’m looking forward to the festivities tonight, if that’s what you’re asking.”

“I suppose these galas can get a bit dull if they happen too often. My partners insist on having them though. What’s the point of having all of this money if you’re not going to spend it? Champagne. Caviar. Live music. It’s all just an excuse for all these people to flaunt their wealth and show off their trophy wives.”

“Is that what you think of me? Am I only a trophy?”

“No. You’re not my wife. Not yet, anyway. But you’d be more than just a trophy if you were. I remember when I first met you. I thought you were stunning. It wasn’t just because of your beauty though. You really did know your way around this town.”

“There’s a lot of property in Ivory that’s up for grabs.”

“Indeed. Just one big pot of money waiting for someone to invest in it. I’m going to start with Old Town. That place is dead now but it’ll soon be booming once I get a hold of it. That’s why tonight is so special.”

I lowered my hand down and turned toward him. James was busy with his tie as he admired his reflection.

“I know I don’t tell you anything about my business,” he said. “It’s for the best. If you knew what I was up to, you’d only put yourself in danger.”

  If he only knew…

“I appreciate that,” I replied. “It’s for my own good.”

“It is. But I don’t see the harm in letting you in on a few details.”

I did my best to hide how curious I’d become.

“I’m closing a deal with a major distributor,” he said. “The last holdout in the city up north. With him coming in on my deal, we’ll have a near monopoly. It took me a long time to secure this. Longer than a year. But it’s finally coming to a close.”

He fixed his tie then moved over to me. He placed his hands on my bare shoulders and stared at us in the mirror. The way he smiled was more unnerving that it usually was.

“It’s finally done,” he said. “I’m already successful but tonight… Tonight is a real celebration. I’ll be able to enjoy my greatest success.”

He moved his hand down and placed it around my throat gently.

“I’ll be able to give you anything in the world. All of the riches you deserve. I’ll hold this world in the palm of my hands.”

“I don’t need the world,” I said as I smiled back at him. “I just need… you.”

“And that’s why you’ll never be just a trophy wife. You’re something special, Kristen. Don’t you forget that.”

He pulled his hand away from me. I held back an anxious sigh and swallowed again.

James moved back to the mirror to admire himself. I got up from my seat and straightened out my dress the best that I could. It was a sleek black number that didn’t draw much attention to me but wasn’t so dull that I looked out of place with the rest of the people in the ballroom.

“Now,” he said. “The party is getting started soon. We don’t want to keep our guests waiting.”

  I have to do this… There’s no more time…

  “Are you ready, Kristen?”

  He smiled softly at me.

“In just a moment. I… I need to finish my makeup.”

“I’ll never understand why women need to spend so much time getting themselves ready, especially one as beautiful as you.”

“I just want everything to be perfect for tonight.”

  “Of course you do.”

He smiled softly at me and turned back toward his reflection.

“Listen to me… Talking about you spending so much time in front of a mirror and I’m making sure everything is right with me just the same. That makes me such a hypocrit
e.”

I looked to make sure that he wasn’t paying any attention to me then reached into my purse.

  Where is it?

That damn receiver Whitaker gave me was so small that it was easy to lose. It took me a few seconds before I finally found it buried at the bottom of my purse. I pulled it out and straightened my dress out, making sure not to do draw any attention to my hands.

James’s jacket sat on the bed before me. I moved closer to it, growing more and more anxious with every step. Just when I got to it, there was a knock at the door.

  Shit…

  “Yes? Come in.”

The door opened up and James’s personal security guard stepped inside.

“I’m ready to escort you to the ballroom—”

“Yes, yes, I know, Blackwell, ” James said. “You treat me like I’m a child. I suppose I’m getting what I paid for though. You can never complain too much about good help.”

I looked at Blackwell and he stared back at me. He was like a robot the way he didn’t blink.

I never did anything like this. I wasn’t slick. I wasn’t smooth. There was no way I could stick this thing on with Blackwell watching me like a hawk. But there had to be a way to do this.

  “James?” I said.

  “Yes?”

“Can I speak to you for a second?”

  “Of course—”

  “Alone.”

Emerson straightened out his tuxedo then gave Blackwell a nod. The intimidating security guard eyeballed me before stepping back through the door.

  “What is it?” he said.

“It’s nothing,” I said. “It’s just… I get a little uncomfortable when he’s around. Especially in a place like this. A private bedroom.”

“I understand. Blackwell is a bit intimidating. I don’t think there’s a personal security guard that isn’t intimidating though. If he exists, I can’t imagine he’s very effective.”

James narrowed his eyes at me.

  “Is there something else?”

I have to do this. I have to do it now…

  “No,” I replied. “It’s just…”

  Kristen!

I had no choice. Now was the time to jump.
