The spark between us catches fire, and we light up like a flare.
We’re hungry for each other, and I don’t think I’ll be able to get enough of her.
“I can’t do this,” she insists. “We’re not jumping back into what we had.”
“What if I date and agree to live my life?” I suggest. “Would you give me a chance?”
She rolls her eyes. “Maybe in another life, Gage.”
“Take care of yourself, Turtle.” I nod.
I go back to the house. Keane and Jojo are making popcorn. I want to tell him that he’s going to spoil her lunch, but I remind myself that he’s trying to bond with her.
“You let her go?” he asks from the kitchen.
“She’s free to do as she wants,” I answer. “You can’t force relationships, you have to build them.”

Gage: Did you make it home safe?
Tess: Yes. Thank you for checking on me.
Tess: How’s Jojo?
Gage: Sad, confused, hurt, and chatty.
Tess: Give her a hug from me. I’ll try to call her tonight.
Gage: She’ll love to hear from you—me too.

Gage: We told my parents.
Tess: That’s soon.
Gage: It’s been a couple of weeks, I can only avoid them for so long.
Tess: How was it?
Gage: Mom’s crushed because I lied to her. She’s happy that Keane is back. The usual Rodin drama.
Tess: How are you?
Gage: I’m keeping busy, so I haven’t checked how I’m doing yet.
Tess: Let yourself grieve.

Tess: I heard Dad’s coming back from hiatus, and you’re invited to his party.
Gage: If you meant to say that Killing Hades is going on tour and Kaden Hades asked me to join, the answer is yes.
Tess: Awe, the fanboy in you is happy, isn’t he?
Gage: Just don’t tell anyone, I’m trying to look cool
