Oliver,
I forgot to mention during our call that the Blythes died a month ago. I know you’re on a mission and can’t reach me, but call me when you can.
Love,
Mom
Dear Reader,
Thank you so much for reading My One Despair. Kade and Sadie are two of my favorite characters so far. Visiting them was a treat. That being said, telling you Tess’s side of the story and what happened when she was sixteen was a little overdue. And Gage, well, he’s just the perfect guy for her. Even though he has a few thorns to him, in the end, he got what he worked for all his life. His music, his family, and Tess. But what about Jojo?
I’m always asked what inspires my stories. It’s a blend of real life and lessons learned—from the people that surround me, and sometimes my own personal experiences. Jojo is based on a family member whose parents abandon him with his grandmother and an aunt when he was just ten days old. He grew up wanting to call his aunt mom and to have a normal life. Yet, there’s always that little sliver of hope in his heart that his father would come back for him—or that his mom would get her act together and she’d finally come home and be a real mother. I just tried to do my best to give that kid the Dad he always wanted—and the big family he deserved.
What can I say? I love my alternate universes and happy endings. Even if they’re almost fifty years overdue.
Thank you for reading this. For accepting a little piece of my heart.
If you enjoyed the book, please do me a big favor and leave a review! Let other readers know about it and spread the word. I love to hear from readers, so please don’t hesitate to email me.
Thank you much for everything. Love you all,
Claudia ♥
Acknowledgments
I can’t stretch how hard it is for me to write this part because I have a terrible memory, and I am afraid of forgetting anyone. Please forgive me if I do. Before I continue, let me tell you that I’m grateful for all of you and for being part of the world that I’ve created.
So where do I start?
First and foremost, I’d like to thank God for all the blessings in my life.
This is the sixth book I publish this year, and it means so much more than you can imagine. At the beginning of the year I was so sick I couldn’t get out of bed, but I pushed myself and I didn’t let the pain and everything that’s happening stopped me. Furthermore, this year I’ve published more books that I’ve published in the past. The secret to accomplish this was trying harder and surrounding myself with people who no matter what, love me and support me.
All my gratitude to my talented editor, Mara White. Not sure where this book would be without you. Thanks, hugs and my eternal love go to you. Thank you for your time, your knowledge and your patience.
To my beta queens, thank you so much for your insight. Michelle, Yolanda, and Patricia.
Thank you to Kristi for holding my hand not only while I write, but while I breathe. I just can’t see how I could’ve gone through this year without your friendship. My BFL, my sister, my sidekick. Love you forever.
Amy Queau of Q Design thank you for this gorgeous cover.
Michelle Rodriguez, thank you for the million and one things you do for me every day. I’m the luckiest person in the world because I have you not only in my team, but in my life. Those days that I just can’t you’re there to pick up me up and make sure that everything works like a well-oiled machine.
Thank you, Dana, Kaitie, Melissa for being part of my team, I’m grateful to have you in my life.
Karen Hulseman, I loved sitting down with you to talk about Gage. Thank you for your advice and for being my friend.
Sara Sentz, thank you for the teasers and all your support.
To all the authors in the loop, thank you ladies, I adore you all. Thank you so much for your friendship, help and love.
To my family, thanks you for everything you do for me, for your love and your support. My husband, who is my inspiration, my partner, and my everything.
