WHITE HEAT (Dr. Feelgood Book 2) Page 4

by Mona Moore

With a calmness that Scarlett remembered used to infuriate her, Charles continued in a slow and level tone. “While what you did was obviously traumatizing to Scarlett, I am glad that you’ve finally seen the error in your ways. With that being said, I would like to state that in most instances, actions speak louder than words. We hear this phrase so often because it is essentially a universal truth.”

Scarlett hung on every word, wondering where Charles was going with this. He looked so professional sitting there watching Frank intently like he would one of his patients. If she didn’t know any better, she’d think he was actually invested in the well-being of her ex-husband. Of course, Charles was a mystery, and she really had no way of knowing what was going through his mind now. Regardless, watching Charles in shrink mode was entirely more enticing than it should have been.

“Alright,” Frank began slowly, leaning back in the ottoman that used to be his and extending a hand forward. “How do you suggest I show it, then? I’ve already tried giving her flowers, chocolate, take-out from her favorite restaurant which is now laying dormant in the kitchen that used to be mine masked by the scent of whatever it is you’re cooking up in there… What would you suggest I do?”

Frank was being sarcastic; Scarlett could tell the moment he leaned back in his chair. She was also quite confident that Charles wasn’t about to give him advice on how to win his ex-wife back. Scarlett should have made some popcorn for the event. She was regretting she hadn’t. Charles leaned forward from the couch and famously folded his fingers over one another creating that little temple that told people he meant business. With baited breath, Scarlett waited for what would happen next.

“With what I know of your ex-wife and the situation that brought you both to this junction in your lives,” Charles stated clearly and efficiently. “I would say that you need to show your investment by actually being committed. You should take her on dates and be romantic. Start by taking things slowly and paying attention to her. You need to communicate your feelings, even as unmanly as it may feel at times to do so.”

Frank opened his mouth to speak, but Charles held up his hand and stopped him. He paused for a moment, holding Franks gaze intensely before continuing. “However, the greatest piece of advice I can offer you is that you do these things with an entirely new woman because I’m afraid it’s too little too late with this one. At least now you know you’re ready for commitment before you put a ring on someone’s finger the next time around.”

Charles blinked and smiled up at Frank who was now standing up angrily, the ottoman pushed slightly back from its original spot. Scarlett was mildly concerned when Frank’s face turned an alarming shade of purple. It looked as though he might have a heart attack in her living room.

“Is this asshole for real?” Frank smarted, aiming a thumb in Charles’ direction and looking at Scarlett as if he couldn’t believe she wasn’t standing up for him.

“I promise this is my completely professional opinion. Just ask your ex-wife.” Charles directed the conversation over to Scarlett, who was standing ready to dish out some cold, hard truth for once.

“He’s right, Frank. I didn’t force you to buy me a ring or get married to me. If you weren’t ready for a commitment, you shouldn’t have made one.” Scarlett murmured. “I really, sincerely hope you can learn from these mistakes and move on with someone else. I didn’t think I’d ever be able to say that to you, but I truly mean it.”

Frank looked at Charles incredulously as he stood up and went back to the kitchen and whatever he was making. Just like that, as if the conversation had never even taken place. Scarlett realized then that she was completely over Frank. There were no ifs, ands or buts. She and Frank held eye contact for a moment, and she watched as the realization of her truth seeped into his brain. It was there that he came to terms with the fact that she would never want him back. She could tell without him even having to say a word. With nothing left to say between them, she watched Frank walk out, leaving the food and flowers behind with a slam of the door.

She stood up and stretched, letting it roll off her back. Scarlett didn’t owe him any more chances or happiness. She’d given too many years of her life to a man that had spoiled the love she had for him and turned it into something ugly. If he wanted to be happy, he would have to find someone else to lean on, or he would have to find it on his own.

Making her way into the kitchen where Charles was seemingly entranced by the task of cooking, she leaned back against the countertop and watched intently. It smelled incredible, and she wanted to lose herself in the aroma, but first she needed a moment with him to thank him for how he handled that. Reaching out, Scarlett touched his hand on the counter, prompting him to turn around and look at her, those strange aqua eyes pinning her. There was a familiar flame in his eyes, and a shred of hope ignited in her heart. Scarlett didn’t dare push it, though.

“Charles - thank you for helping me through that. I’m not sure how you knew Frank would be here, but I’m glad you were here with me.”

Charles shook his head. “You didn’t need me Scarlett, but I didn’t fully know that until just now.”

His voice was softer than usual, the tone washing over her like silk and a flash of their time spent in the cabin passed before her eyes. Scarlett stood on her tip toes and leaned into him, placing her lips on top of his. She closed her eyes tightly, enjoying the sensation as their lips moved in unison, her heart banging in her chest. She slid her tongue slowly into his mouth as his hand reached back to undo her already messy bun. Charles tangled his fingers in her hair and pressed himself into the passionate kiss, sliding his tongue delicately along her own. Too quickly, he pulled away, needing to tend to the meal, but Scarlett could still feel that kiss all the way down her toes.

  CHAPTER SIX

Dinner was heavenly. Scarlett closed her eyes as she savored another bite of the unbelievable stir fry Charles had made and adjusted herself, cross-legged on the floor. He had insisted that they eat barefoot on the floor at her little, black coffee table instead of at the dining table. He said it took him back to his time spent in Asia and that it was how he often ate dinner at home.

Their eyes were magnetically drawn to one another as they ate. Scarlett kept catching Charles glancing up at her as she nibbled contentedly at her meal before pausing and returning to his own. It was like he was considering saying something and then thinking better of it. She could feel the heaviness on his shoulders as they dropped forward over his meal. A stray strand of his sandy blonde hair fell onto his forehead, and she wanted to brush it away but forced her hands still. There was an energy surrounding Charles that told her he wanted to say something, but he seemed to be holding back.

“This was Julia’s favorite dish for me to make,” he said, finally breaking the silence and staring down at his plate.

She held her breath momentarily, a sense of exaltation and fear climbing into her chest. Charles opening his feelings to her was a rare occurrence. Scarlett knew his dead wife was a rough subject, and not something he willingly spoke of unless pressed. The fact that he’d said her name without any prompting was miraculous, so she let him continue without interruption.

“If she had a bad day, I would always make this for her, and it would cheer her up.” Charles murmured with a small smile playing on his lips. “It’s hard for me, after loving a woman as emotionally fragile as Julia was, to think that anyone can be strong and stand on their own; especially someone that looks as delicate as you.”

Scarlett’s eyes snapped to his, and she found him looking openly at her face. She could have spent hours deciphering what he was trying to say, but she knew that without the words from his lips, she would always come up empty. For fear of crushing the moment with questions and words of her own, Scarlett silently watched him and waited for more.

“She was sweet and so beautiful, but she had this extreme innocence about her that when disappointed, which I found she often was with me, put her into a horrible
stupor of sadness that I couldn’t reach.” He let out in a rush as though he’d been holding his breath. “But we got into yoga together, and that seemed to help – a little. I used my own techniques on her, trying to pull her out, but I guess that last time, she just went too deeply into herself to climb back out.”

Charles bowed his head, leaving his worry unspoken. It wasn’t just about the guilt of wanting to be with another woman, but it was also about seeing himself as a failure. Not only had he not been able to keep his wife out of a deep depression, but as a Psychiatrist, he wasn’t able to do it either. It probably made him question his entire purpose in life. Scarlett was beginning to really see the man behind all the anger, and the hurt.

“She sounds like she was amazing. I would have liked her,” Scarlett told him; the only comforting words she knew to say. What else could she say when the only real solution to someone’s pain was to bring back the dead?

“You remind me a little of her sometimes.” He laugh-cried, and Scarlett felt a shock run through her system. Was that why he wouldn’t fall in love with her? Was Charles afraid he would lose her the same way? Or was he ashamed of his sexual desires?

A lightbulb seemed to go off in her head. “Charles, did you and Julia ever – the way we have – did she - like it?”

A dark shadow fell over Charles' face which seemed to crumple beneath the weight of her seemingly unintelligible question. He bit his lip, sniffling and allowed his tear stained eyes to rest on her own.

“Like I said,” he whispered. “Julia was often disappointed by me.”

Scarlett’s heart squeezed in her chest, and she crawled over to him, gingerly taking his hands and placing them around her waist as she climbed up into his lap. The house was dimly lit and silent. The only sound was their breathing and a clock ticking aimlessly in the hallway. She looked into his eyes and evened out her breathing with his, their chests rising and falling together until he began to steady. He started to calm and focus on her then, his hands sliding up and down her back. Her spine tingled from the heat he was transferring to her skin, his energy changing almost instantly. Charles searched her face, as though looking for an answer before he leaned down and kissed her, suddenly pulling her tightly into his arms.

The kiss he gave her was hungrier than the last, penetrating to the very depth of her very soul as their tongues tangled together wantonly. His fingers curled tightly into the flesh of her hips, pulling her snugly against him as their fevered mouths created a vortex of desire between them. She knew then that she had her answer. Julia had been a delicate flower who’s stalk broke easily when bent. Scarlett was of a heartier variety, not so easily broken and Charles knew that. She suddenly felt elated.

Before she knew it, her shirt was being wrangled up and over her head, and his shirt got ripped a little on its way off. Their bodies were warming one another, ready to ignite from the friction. He reached for the clasp of her thin bra and toyed with it, his breath huffing out in frustration when he couldn’t undo it.

“Just rip it,” Scarlett gasped, and Charles happily complied leaving the thin scrap in a tattered pile beside them.

Without warning, he reached out with his arm and cleared the table in one fell swoop, sending dishes and scraps onto the floor, before he lowered Scarlett down onto the coffee table. With rough, urgent hands, he yanked at her tights and panties, leaving her bare before him as he brought his face forward to worship at her feminine shrine.

Scarlett’s breath stopped in her chest as his tongue lashed out, lapping up her sweet essence as she arched her back in response. The sounds that were coming from his throat were as though he were dining on a mouthful of extravagance. Charles placed his palm flat on her belly and held her down firmly in place as he mercilessly lapped at her aching sex. She loved the dominance he practiced on her. The excitement of his hands holding her still in combination with his hungry mouth as he devoured her was more than she could take.

His tongue began to dart in and out of her soft center, making her feel a slow burn building inside herself. Her eyes locked on the ceiling which seemed to spin above her. Just as her legs became weak, and she began to shake, Charles stopped, gasping for air.

Charles stood up, his molten eyes never leaving hers as he tugged down his jeans, revealing his engorged shaft; one that was hard only for her, she knew that now. He yanked her up from her spot on the table and took her place. Pulling Scarlett’s legs over him, he stroked his cock with one hand while sliding the other along her slick folds.

“This pretty little pussy belongs to me,” He said, licking his lips. He gave her wet sex a playful slap. “Say it.”

Scarlett gasped, her honeypot contracting with delight. “My pussy belongs to you.”

He rubbed harder, smearing her juices from her ass to her thighs. He smiled up at her. “Who makes you wet like this?”

“You do,” she groaned, writhing her hips against his touch.

He slapped it again, this time a little rougher. “Who makes you ache like this?"

“You do!” Scarlett cried out as her pussy contracted.

“Fucking right I do,” Charles said between gritted teeth. “Now sit your luscious ass down and fuck me hard, before I spank you again for not doing as you were told.”

The excitement that coursed through her body at his filthy words left Scarlett delirious as she lowered herself slowly onto his cock, impaling herself deeply on his thick, hard shaft. She whimpered as she began to slide her hips back and forth on him firmly, the feeling of Charles rubbing inside of her made her eyes roll back into her head. There was nothing else in the world quite like it. Scarlett ground herself down on him slowly, building a rhythm, wanting to savor the moment, but Charles wasn’t going to let her have full control like that. She should have known better.

He grabbed onto her hips and began to move her body over him like a ragdoll, making her fuck him hard. Her breasts jiggled savagely with every vicious thrust that left her aching deeper than she ever had. It was as though Charles was trying to reach a part of her that even she didn’t know existed. She was moaning and panting as with every thrust he pushed up against her g-spot. Her thighs ached and burned.

“That’s it,” Charles panted wildly, reaching up to roughly grab one of her breasts in his palm while the other worked her over him. “That’s it, make me cum inside of you.”

As her orgasm began to climb and she could feel herself building to that fevered pitch she knew would send her into orbit, Scarlett could hear her voice as though from a distance.

“I’m yours, I’m yours, I’m yours, I’m yours…” She was chanting mindlessly as the coil within her wound tighter and tighter.

Charles rocked her faster and faster over his body in time with her chanting as he thrust into her writhing body like his life depended on it.

“I’m yours, I’m yours, I’m yours, I’m yours…” Scarlett’s voice escalated in volume as Charles gripped her hips roughly, pushing her down on him so that their pubic bones rubbed together firmly.

It wasn’t long before Scarlet threw her head back, her long auburn hair tickling Charles legs as she convulsed and contracted over his cock as he pulsed within her, spewing stream after stream of his hot cum into her body. She was vibrating with exhaustion as the two of them quaked with their climax. Sitting up and wrapping his arms around Scarlett’s limp body, he tumbled them both to the floor where he framed her face on either side with his big strong hands. He dropped his lips to her ear and whispered softly.

  “You’re mine.”

This time, she wouldn’t forget it.
