It had come as no surprise to anyone when Daniel announced his intention to stay with the clans. Griffin had taken him in as a brother to them all, treating him with respect and honor. Addison had been pleased, first that Daniel had decided to stay, and that Griffin no longer viewed him as a threat.
When Grace had told Addison she wanted to stay, it hadn’t been what Addison expected. She wanted her sister to stay, but hadn’t said anything. She’d wanted it to be Grace’s decision.
It was a few months after the raid that Grace took Addison aside. Both her and Daniel had been secretive, slipping away together, so Addison expected Grace to tell her she’d finally gotten the courage to act on her crush on Daniel.
But Grace had said they wanted to be married, in whatever manner the clan did that sort of thing. Addison was shocked, but then Grace dropped the bombshell. She was expecting.
Griffin had been gracious, allowing the couple to be joined in a shifter ceremony. And so they stood in the clearing, the sun shining down on the clan, on Daniel and Grace.
The priest made a final circle, waving the feather over the couple’s heads, and the chanting stopped. He spoke to Joseph, who stepped forward. He faced the assembled group, taking Grace’s hand and placing it in Daniel’s.
“It is done. They are joined.”
The clan members broke into excited murmurs. Addison and Daphne clapped, startling those around them. Grace beamed at Daniel, who promptly swept her into his arms, kissing her passionately. Addison heard Griffin’s laughter mixing with the happy sounds around her.
They’d walked back to their hut, Addison moving slowly down the path.
“Are you certain you can walk? I can carry you.”
Griffin walked beside her, matching his pace to her slower one. “I’m fine. The exercise does me good. Stop fussing.”
“I thought fussing was a good thing. You fussed over me once, and I let you.”
She reached out, taking his hand. “I’m fine. Women have been carrying babies and walking around forever. When I’m not fine, I’ll let you know.”
They emerged into the clearing of their village. The sun was setting, casting a soft glow over the huts. Scattered clan members greeted them, nodding and smiling. It was no secret everyone was anxious for their baby to be born.
“It’s the start of something new, of a new beginning.” Griffin led her to their hut, stopping before the door. He pulled her against him, turning out of habit now, to accommodate her expanding shape, his hand coming down to rest against her stomach. His voice was low and she thought he was talking more to himself than her.
“You mean Daniel and Grace?” She nestled against his chest.
“Yes, that. But this…” He caressed her stomach gently. “This is the new beginning. You are my new beginning.” He set his fingers beneath her chin, lifting her face to his.
“I love you, Addison. You are my life, my love. And you carry our future.”
About The Author
Catherine Vale, a Canadian author, has been writing fiction for as long as she can remember, but it wasn't until she wrote her very first paranormal romance story that she found herself hooked on the raw, edgy love affair of shifters, vampires and other dominant alpha males, and the captivating women that love them.
