His Best Friend's Wife Page 4

by Ann Omasta

She ran her hands up over my back, raising goosebumps in their wake. "I love how you let people know you care by placing a soothing hand on their shoulder." I ran my tongue along her collarbone and out towards her shoulder.

Brushing my hand along her forehead, I looked deeply into her eyes as I said, "I love how your eyes sparkle when you tell a funny story––or one that you think is funny," I teased her, which earned me another smart smack on the other ass cheek.

Undaunted by her sweet torture, I continued. "I love how you laugh with your whole body. In fact, your fantastic belly laugh was what first attracted me to you that night we all met at the bar."

I knew we were moving into dangerous territory, but my stupid mouth wouldn't stop rambling.

"You were attracted to me?" She sounded dumbfounded. "Why didn't you ever say anything?"

"He claimed you first." It sounded archaic and like we were living by an outdated caveman mentality, but it was absolutely what happened, and I would not pussyfoot around it anymore.

She nodded as if she understood that this was my truth. "I wish he hadn't," she whispered near my ear.

It was the best and worst moment of my life. These were the words I had waited for eons to hear, but I knew they wouldn't change anything in the morning.

"Reed?" I wondered what bombshell she would drop next. In her ever-unpredictable manner, she surprised me by saying, "Mind rolling off me? I can barely breathe."

We both laughed as I complied with her request. Then she snuggled up next to me and dozed off.

I savored the feeling of holding her––literally the woman of my dreams––in my arms for a long while, until I drifted off as well.

There can't be anything in the world better than waking up in the early morning hours with naked, horny Cassie on top of me.

It took me a few moments to realize that I wasn't in the throes of the best wet dream ever. She was too perfect to be real, yet here she was, kissing her way down my body.

My morning wood was already standing at attention. When she looked right up at me and licked up and down my length like I was a giant, delicious Popsicle, I nearly came unglued. This woman might just be the death of me, but I would die a happy man.

"This time, I get to be in charge," she informed me in a pretend-stern voice. "And you will lie back, do as you're told, and enjoy it."

"Yes, ma'am." I happily agreed, knowing that I would do anything she wanted.

"Now, I'm going to go for a nice ride on you," she gave me a catlike grin as she lowered herself down onto me, "And you will suck my tits."

I sat up, eager to do her bidding. She arched her back, giving my mouth easy access to suckle her gorgeous breasts. I ran my tongue around her nipple, making it pucker into a hard nub.

Since the sun hadn't yet risen, I was thankful that we hadn't bothered to turn off the bathroom light last night. My current view from its glow was exquisite.

She stayed still, sheathing me and letting me focus on her breasts. The mewling noises coming from deep within her throat spurred me on.

"Bite." She demanded, and I complied, careful not to go too deep.

She rewarded me with a quick pump over my cock.

"This is so hot. You are so hot." I gushed, still not able to believe this was really happening.

  "No talking," she reprimanded me.

I nodded my understanding, so she rewarded me by reaching back and lightly cupping my balls. Her touch was light as a feather as she ran her hands over my nuts. I gasped from the exquisite torture of it.

"Lie back," she ordered, even as she arranged a pillow for my head.

Once I was settled, she bobbed up and down on me a couple of times. I had the perfect vantage point to watch her tits bounce, and I was completely mesmerized. I reached my hand out to finger her slit, but she slapped my hand away. "No touching." She informed me sternly before adding, "I'll do all of the touching."

At this she reached her own hand down and circled her clit. I couldn't take my eyes off her. She was so bold, so brazen, and so impossibly hot.

Her other hand found one of her nipples as she continued riding my cock and pleasuring herself. She swirled her hips around as she pumped over me. The naughty show was the most erotic, intimate, and dazzling display I had ever seen. She tipped her head back, completely uninhibited and fully enjoying herself.

Her mouth was open in what I now recognized as her "almost-O" face. I was gripping the bed covers, using all of my strength not to reach out to her.

When she cried out, "Reed, your dick feels so good inside me," I couldn't hold back any longer.

I sat up and grabbed her ass. Pumping my hips up, I met her stroke for stroke as she bounced on me. This time she didn't reprimand me.

Realizing that I had unspoken permission to be a more active participant, I slid one of my fingers down her crack and circled her there. I had been expecting her to balk, but she surprised me yet again by urging me on. "Oh, Reed, yes!"

One of her hands locked onto my shoulder, while the other continued its focus on her clitoris as she slid up and down my shaft. I could feel her rhythmic squeezing around my cock as we worked her pleasure centers.

"I'm gonna come," she panted out even as she contracted tightly around me.

I was lost in her––so overwhelmed by pleasure that it might have been an out-of-body experience. We both yelled out loudly as we came hard, throbbing into each other, sweating, and panting. The pulsing chills racing through my veins seemed to last and last.

I'd had a lot of sex in my lifetime, but it had been nothing like this. This had been beyond phenomenal. It was absolutely surreal.

I fell back onto the bed and she flopped on top of my chest. Grazing a hand lightly down the bare skin along her spine, I told her honestly, "This has been the best night of my life."

She pulled back to look into my eyes, ran her fingers along my forehead before brushing them through my hair, and pressed her lips tenderly against mine. Even though I knew it was just the afterglow talking, she melted me when she said, "Mine too."

I must have slept like the dead because when I peeked with one eye, I was surprised to see the full sunlight of midmorning streaming through the hotel room's gaudy flower-print curtains.

I desperately missed having Cassie sprawled across me, but I could still smell her peaches and vanilla scent, which proved that our night of passion hadn't just been a wonderful dream. I turned and was disappointed to find the other side of the bed empty and cold. It was tempting to smell the pillow where her head had rested, but I decided that would be on the verge of creepy.

Wanting to surprise her in the shower, I got up and headed in that direction. When I found the bathroom empty, my heart raced. I could feel it jack-hammering like it was trying to pound its way out of my chest. My palms suddenly felt clammy.

Had she gone down to get us breakfast? Why would she do that and risk seeing Dirk when she could have just ordered room service?

My mind scrambled for a logical explanation for her sudden and secretive departure. If she had gotten an emergency call, she would have awakened me. The same went for if she had some place that she had to be this morning. Why wouldn't she have woken me up to tell me goodbye?

Had she not enjoyed herself and decided to save me the embarrassment of an awkward departure? The self-conscious side of me wanted to allow doubt about my sexual performance to arise, but I was sure that she had enjoyed our lovemaking. Hell, people in rooms two floors above and below us probably knew that she liked fucking me. She'd been quite vocal about it.

Would last night, which had been the most amazing, tender, life-affirming, and world-rocking sexual experience of my life, end up ruining my friendship with both of the people I held most dear? Did she run because she couldn't face me? The idea made the bitter taste of bile burn my throat. I had to choke it back down.

Deep inside, my heart sensed that the guilt over our affair had most likely started to
creep in and get to Cassie. She had probably fled to chastise herself and try to figure out a way to tell her husband that she had spent the night with his best friend.

I didn't see a way for this scenario to work out well for any of us.

Hoping beyond hope that I was wrong and would find Cassie downstairs ordering us coffee, I showered, dressed, and took the elevator down to the lobby. Dirk's skank of the night was doing her walk of shame past the front desk in last night's clothes. I breathed a sigh of relief that Dirk wasn't with her. I wasn't ready to face him yet, but I didn't want Cassie to have to do it alone. We were in this together now.

After a quick bite to eat, I checked out of the hotel and went to my car. I had sent Cassie a text, but she hadn't responded. I didn't want Dirk walking up behind me while I was on the phone with her, so I waited until I was alone in my car to call her.

She didn't pick up. I didn't want to leave too much on her voicemail, in case Dirk got ahold of it before we had a chance to tell him, so I said in my most chipper voice, "Hi Cass, Just checking in on how you're doing. We need to talk. Call me back."

I sat there staring at the phone for a long while after I clicked the 'End' button as if I expected her to return my call immediately. She didn't, so I felt at a loss for what to do.

The conference was wrapping up this morning, so I wasn't missing much more than closing remarks. I didn't want to bump into Dirk before Cassie and I talked. It wasn't fair to drop the bombshell of our affair on him before she had even had a chance to process what had happened.

The sun was streaming through the window of my parked car, and I quickly found myself in the midst of a delightful daydream where I pounded on Dirk's front door, whisked Cassie into my arms An Officer and a Gentleman style. I'd seen that old movie more than I cared to because Cassie loved it, and Dirk refused to watch it with her. Sure, I didn't have the white uniform, but it would still be fun to carry her off to our happily-ever-after ending.

I was picturing what kind of hat I could wear that she could steal off my head to plop on her own, when a knock at the car window startled me. I was not at all pleased to see that it was Dirk.

He motioned for me to roll the window down, so I turned the key in the ignition to comply. I wasn't sure if I should brace myself for a punch in the face, but he said jovially, "You're bailing early too, huh?"

"What? Oh yeah," I responded brilliantly. He didn't seem to notice my extreme level of distraction. The blood was thundering in my ears. I was relieved that he didn't already know, but dreaded having him find out. As much as I wanted Cassie for myself, I also didn't want to see him hurt.

"You blowing off the office today?" He clearly had no idea about last night's transgressions.

I considered blurting it out, but this didn't seem like the right time or place. After clearing my throat, I said, "Probably. You?"

"Yep. I think I'll spend the day with my wife. I haven't spent a lot of quality time with her lately, and you know how Cassie gets when I'm not attentive enough." He gave me a cocky grin as if I would agree that having an old ball-and-chain is really torture.

I felt like smacking that smug smile right off his face, and I knew that I could with a simple statement, but I also knew that telling him in anger what happened was not the best way to go. It appalled me that he spent the night with someone else last night and now he intended to make it up to Cassie by spending a little time with her. She deserved so much better than that.

The niggling part of my brain said that Cassie had been with someone else too, but I knew that was the first time she had done anything of that nature. Dirk did it all the time.

Instead of confessing my sins, I sat there like a big dumbass. Dirk didn't seem to notice anything amiss as he said, "Okay, have a good one. See ya' on Monday."

I nodded, but doubted that we'd be having a normal return to business on Monday morning. He climbed into his convertible BMW and reversed out of the parking space next to me without a second look in my direction.

After I checked my phone, hoping I had missed a call or text from Cassie, I sighed in disappointment and went to the office. Even though I had told Dirk that I wasn't going in, I couldn't think of anyplace else to go. I didn't want to be at home alone, and I needed to wait for word from Cassie before going over to their house.

Unsurprisingly, I wasn't able to focus on anything at work. After staring at my computer screen, but not making any progress for over an hour, I finally turned off the machine. I checked my phone for the thousandth time, hoping for a response from Cassie. I wanted to chuck it across the room when the blank display screen stared back at me...mocking me.

Finally, deciding I couldn't take the suspense any longer, I headed over to Dirk and Cassie's house. Time to pay the piper, I said aloud as I started my car. Convincing myself that it was better for us all to have it out in the open, I tried to practice what I would say when I arrived. Since I didn't know if Cassie had already told him or not, I finally realized that I would just have to figure out what to say when I got there.

I took some deep breaths after parking in their circular driveway. I truly didn't want to hurt my best friend, but my actions had already sealed our fate on that. As much as I didn't want to tell him, I really didn't want Cassie to have to tell him by herself.

Summoning every bit of courage I could muster, I rang their doorbell. The formal ringtone bellowed, echoing through the vaulted ceilings of their house.

Cassie answered, looking only mildly surprised to see me. "Oh, hi, Reed." She sounded friendly, but somewhat distant. Since she didn't appear to have been crying, I figured she hadn't told him yet. I was glad I was here to give her moral support and to help carry the heavy lifting of our confession.

It took a great deal of restraint not to pull her into my arms and reassure her that everything would be okay. That temptation was alleviated when she swung the huge cherry door open wide to reveal Dirk sitting on the enormous sectional in their open-concept living room.

"Oh, hey buddy," he yelled at me. "Come on in and watch the game with me." It was the kind of open invitation that wouldn't have been at all bizarre before last night, but now felt odd. "Cassie, bring him a beer," he ordered his wife.

"Umm, I don't..." My words trailed off, but Dirk was too engrossed in the game to notice. Cassie had escaped to the kitchen––probably to get my beer. I followed her.

"Are you okay?" I spoke quietly, craving a private chat with her before we trampled Dirk's heart.

  “Yep, fine,” she responded breezily.

I gaped at her. She was acting like nothing had happened. Was this some form of crazy coping mechanism? Did she think if she acted like everything was normal that it would be?

"Well, I wanted to be here when we told Dirk what happened. He's liable to go a little crazy at first." I had the feeling that last part might be the understatement of the year. Dirk did not like to lose. He wasn't used to losing, but when he did, it wasn't pretty.

Cassie looked at me like I had grown two heads. "We're not telling him," she said matter-of-factly.

"We have to tell him," I hissed. This was worse than I could have imagined. She wanted us to go back to the way things were before?? No way in hell was I going to step aside and be her friend, while she remained married to Dirk.

I knew that plan wouldn't be right for any of us. What was she thinking? We would all be miserable.

"Cassie, last night was phenomenal," I started. Her cheeks turned a gorgeous shade of pink. It was the first time since my arrival that she had given any indication that she even remembered our lovemaking. "I can't just ignore that it happened and go back to the friend zone."

"You have to," she informed me.

"No," I spluttered. "I can't. I won't." Changing tactics, I reached for both her hands, touching her for the first time since our night of passion. "Last night meant the world to me. Please don't tell me it didn't matter to you." I was distantly aware that I sounded like I was pleading, but this was too importa
nt to let pride impede the outcome I wanted and needed.

"Of course it mattered," she revealed, and I let out a shaky breath that I didn't realize I had been holding. I smiled when she added, "It mattered a lot more than I would have imagined it could."

That sounded promising. "Then we have to tell him." I said it matter-of-factly because it was the only course of action that made any sense.

"No, that would ruin everything." She absently twirled a long, brown lock of hair around her finger. I recognized the habit as her go-to move for when she was lost in thought.

"Or set everything right," I countered, moving in close to her, still holding her hands. I heard her breath hitch at my nearness and knew that my feelings weren't completely one-sided.

Her breasts were brushing against my chest. My cock was straining towards her. "You feel that?" I placed our interlaced hands over my racing heart. Feeling brave, I moved our hands over to her chest. Pleased to find her heart thumping wildly as well, I said, "Our bodies are telling us how much we care."

"No," she denied, "our bodies are telling us that we have lust for each other."

"Last night was not about lust." She gave me a look that clearly said she was calling 'bullshit' on that last statement, so I amended it. "Okay, it was partially about lust, but it was mostly about love."

Her eyes darted to mine in obvious surprise. "Yes," I confirmed. "I said love, and I meant it. I've always loved you Cassie––from the first moment I saw you." It felt good to finally have it out in the open. The tears glistening in her eyes let me know that she was moved by my admission.

"Nonetheless," she started, and I suddenly hated that word, "I am a married woman, and we need to go back to the way things were."

I shook my head. "I can't go back. I can't pretend that last night didn't happen. Can you?" I felt so vulnerable waiting with bated breath for her answer.

"We have to try," she responded, making me feel marginally better. Her words implied that it wouldn't be easy for her either.
