Adelaide, the Enchantress Page 17

by Kay Hooper

“That was Shane. Remember him? You met him a few months ago in Kentucky.”

  “Of course I remember him.”

“Well, he was calling from Australia. He went down there to check out their racing, during the course of which he met a lady jockey named Adelaide Delaney….”

Ten minutes later Maggie was as excited as her husband. “That’s wonderful! And just think of what they did—each of them alone like that and taking such chances. Oh, I have to call Sierra and Cara! Won’t they and York and Burke be surprised?” She reached for the phone, then hesitated, her smile growing as she stared at her husband.

He lifted a questioning brow. “What?”

“Rafe, why don’t we go to Australia?”

For my agent, Eileen Fallon, whose patience, good humor, and professionalism throughout the Delaney projects made a difficult task much easier.

To Iris Johansen and Fayrene Preston, I offer my appreciation and gratitude for helping me in the ongoing process of learning to write.

And lastly, to my father, who listened to a difficult plotting problem and suggested that I do something with the tree. It made all the difference.
