Briar hugged him again. “I’m so proud of you.”
He gave her a tight squeeze. “Me, too.” He released her and stepped toward the door. “I’ll stop by again sometime.”
“You’d better.” Briar waved. “See you later, Michael.”
“You can call me Mouse.”
Briar watched him go, her grandmother’s voice filling her ears. She closed her eyes and spoke Granna Grace’s words aloud. “Who knows whether you have come here—”
“—for such a time as this.” Lukas finished the sentence.
She opened her eyes to find him by her side. Forever.
