He zipped up the bag and ran downstairs to the kitchen with it. He handed it to Link, and he opened it and looked at what he had in there. Link got a big smile on his face. “You did excellent George. I guess you can pack your own bag to go to your friend’s house. You got everything you were supposed to.”

“I am ten years old, Dad. I’m almost grown, you know.”

Link pulled him up into his arms and hugged him. Alex walked over and kissed him on the forehead. “I don’t care if your forty years old you’ll still be our little boy, and we’ll always love you, son.”

“I love you too, Daddy and Dad. I just want to go play with my friend. Dad, is he like my brother since Uncle Cade is your brother?”

“No, son. Mike is your cousin. It can be as close as a brother.”

It was only a few minutes later that Cade and Bradley walked in. Mike ran in behind them and grabbed George, and they went up to George’s room. Bradley sat a grocery bag full of containers on the counter near the food. Alex said, “Help yourself to whatever you want. We have frozen all that we can, but this stuff will go bad before we can get it eaten.”

“We’ll just take some of it. Not near all of it. It was your party, and you have to eat the leftovers. None of you helped us with the leftovers.”

Alex rolled his eyes. “We ate until we were about to burst Bradley. What else could we have done?”

“Just what I’m about to do. You could have brought some containers to take some of the food home with you.”

“Yeah, I guess you’re right. Next time I promise to bring containers to the party. That way, we can take half of the leftovers home with us now that we have a home together.”

Link and Cade sat down at the table, and they were drinking coffee. Cade asked, “Do you think Darlene’s brother will go to the judge Monday?”

“I sure hope so. We are getting married at Sam’s in two weeks. Make sure you and Bradley are there. It’ll be on Saturday afternoon.”

“Link, you know we wouldn’t miss it.”

Two weeks later they were standing on Sam’s back deck near the railing. The judge was there and performed the ceremony. Both boys had written their own vows. Link looked deep into Alex’s eyes and said, “I know we have been through so many trials. We have a beautiful son and a beautiful home. I want you to know that everything we had to go through was worth every moment of pain just so I could stand here and marry the man of my dreams. I love you Alex and am so happy I will be your husband forever.”

The judge pronounced them husband and husband. They got their first kiss as married men and then the party started.

Thank you for reading my third book in the series of the James Brothers. I hope you enjoyed it. Please consider leaving a review as it helps other readers find my books.

You’ll see all the characters in the next book as well. That one will be about Justin Redmond.
