“You saved me.”
He shook his head and smiles, a joy he’d never known before replacing the dull ache he’d carried with him for so long. “I didn’t think about it, I just did it. I wasn’t going to let you get away so easily. I love you, lady.”
Sam returned his smile. “I thought we hardly knew each other,” she said again.
“Good point.” Jake was quiet for a moment. “What’s your favorite color?”
“Green.”
“And what do you like for breakfast?”
She grinned. “An onion bagel with cream cheese.”
He pulled her down beside him and tucked her hair back from her face. “Are you a morning person or a night owl?”
She turned her mouth into his palm and pressed a lingering kiss there that set his blood on fire. “Definitely a night owl.”
He swallowed hard. “And how do you like to sleep?”
“Naked,” she said, leaning forward to kiss the straight edge of his jaw. He couldn’t have loved her more if he’d known her all his life. “With you.”
As his mouth descended on hers, he murmured, “That’s all I need to know.”
