“I’m not joking,” he says real serious like, but still I can’t help feeling like he’s pulling my leg.
“Look, I’ve had a really long week, I don’t know what this is but I’m not falling for it,” I tell him shutting the door, but he moves his booted foot in the way stopping the door from shutting all the way. “Jinx,” I warn, gathering my magic. I will turn him into a toad just to get rid of him. I always wanted a pet.
“I swear on my family’s name I’m not joking. I really want to go out with you.”
“Why?” I ask confused.
“Can we talk about this on the way to the restaurant?” He counters aspirated.
“If you want me to go anywhere with you you’ll answer my question now,” I tell him, folding my arms in front of my chest stubbornly. I’ve been burned once this week already by a pretty face, I’m not looking for a repeat.
“I’m attracted to you, so logically I thought we should go on a date to see where this goes,” he huffs. Attracted how? I wonder. I think I’m the first female he’s met who doesn’t automatically do as he asked.
“Logically huh, I’m not even your type.”
“And what type is that?” He asks amused now.
“You know the easy type, the type that’ll fall into your bed.”
“Is that my type now? What makes you think you won’t?” He asks, moving closer taking over my personal space. The pull I feel towards him yanks on my heart stings and I can feel my brain turning to mush. “Tell me you don’t feel this,” he whispers in my hair. “Tell me you’re not attracted to me and I’ll go away.”
I open my mouth to tell him to fuck off, but my lips won’t form the words, instead I move closer and my hands touch his chest, smoothing the planes over his muscles. What is wrong with me? I feel like my body has been snatched and taken on a ride as it moves on its own violation just like in conjuring class, but I know no magic is being used. This is my own stupidity in the making.
“I can’t,” I whisper.
“You can’t tell me you’re not attracted to me, or you can’t go out with me? I need a little clarification here, dove.”
“Both,” I answer as I try to shake whatever this is off.
“How about you come out with me and if you’re still not comfortable I’ll bring you back,” he offers.
I study his face still trying to figure out if this is some kind of sick joke, but I don’t see anything deceitful on his face. Jinx Moonstone is actually asking me, Amethyst Nightingale on a date. This is practically unheard of. Despite his looks, Jinx is from one of the most prominent families in the dark witch community. Technically I am too, but my father’s coven, the Nightingales’ don’t acknowledge me. My trust was all I’ve ever received from them.
“Look, you’re putting way too much thought into this. Just come out with me.” I study his clothes and mine. Currently, he’s standing in front of my door looking like sex on a stick while I’m overly comfortable in a rather large t-shirt and yoga pants.
“Alright, let me get dressed,” I tell him, stepping back into my room. He follows me inside, and I pretend he’s not sitting on my bed. Two hot supes in one week has been in my room, that is definitely a record for me. To be honest anyone in my room is a record.
Going to my closet, I pull out a short black fitted dress with a cross lace side that shows enough skin to be sexy and classy at the same time. I pair it up with a pair of over the knee suede heeled boots I bought on sale on a whelm. I’m a total shoe whore and have more shoes in my closet than clothes. In my bathroom, I change and meticulously apply makeup to my face. I don’t go out a lot but when I do dress up, I’m far from frumpy. My long hair falls in smooth waves to my waist and I put it up in a high ponytail. When I look in the mirror at the finished product I look hot as fuck. I’m not the conceited type, but even I have to admit I have very good genes. I’ve only seen my mother in pictures that my wicked grandmother has around the house. I know I have my mother’s light sandy blonde hair, and her full lips. Everything else I must have gotten from my father, including the color of my eyes, which is why my mother named me Amethyst.
Once I exit the bathroom, Jinx stands, and whistles. “Well don’t you clean up well,” he states approvingly.
I allow him to take my arm in his and lead me out the door. I stop to lock my room before throwing my keys in the clutch purse I decided on taking. Neither of us speaks the whole way to the parking lot where his Aston Martin Vanquish is parked by itself on the private side of the lot. I don’t know a lot about cars, but I know this one costs a boatload. I’m not surprised he drives a car like this. Jinx’s clothes, demeanor, everything just screams wealth. Like a proper gentleman, he opens the passenger door for me and I stiffly sit down. I didn’t want to hurt his leather or scratch it or something. I drove a small Lexus that was nowhere this expensive.
His car smells just like him, frosted blueberries with a hint of expensive leather. His seats were even monogrammed with a capital J. His car, like his clothes screamed pretentious asshole, but deep inside I feel like this isn’t really him, just a mask he wears of what’s expected from him. It’s weird for me to even think that. It’s not like I know him.
“So where are you taking me?” I ask once we are on the road and well on our way. The Academy is located in a secluded area, land privately owned by the founders of the school. The nearest town was about an hour away, anything worthwhile was around two. That’s the reason why the students here liked to throw bingers in the woods. It was convenient.
“I was wondering how long it would take you to ask that question,” he chuckles giving me a brilliant smile, and hell what a smile it is. I’m sure if I were standing my legs would have turned to jelly and I’d be on my ass right now.
“So are you going to answer?” I inquire, once I shake the stupid off.
“Nope,” he answers, popping the P.
“God, why are you so frustrating?”
“Why are you so curious? Don’t you know that’s what killed the cat?” He questions, spitting nonsense.
“Well I’m not a cat so why should I care?”
“More questions. Trust me, I’m not driving you off to be killed or ditch you anywhere.”
I’m not going to lie. The thought did cross my mind. I’m not sure that I trust him just yet, but I do believe him when he says he isn’t up to anything seedy. Following my gut or whatever crazy pull this is, I settle into the seat and watch the scenery fly by in the window. When I start seeing exits for the airport, I raise a brow which he just shrugs in answer. He takes the exit and parks his car on the private side of the airport where most of the private jets are docked.
“Okay, what’s going on?” I ask not able to keep silent any longer.
“I told you, I’m taking you out.”
“I know, but where?”
“Fine,” he concedes. "If you must know, we’re flying to Vegas,” he answers nonchalantly like he didn’t just drop a bomb and run away.
“What?!” I shriek. “That’s like seven hours away.”
“Commercial flight yes, but in my family’s private jet it will only take about five hours.”
“Don’t you think that’s a little much for a first date?” I ask incredulously.
“Maybe, but by the time the weekend is over it’ll be close to three dates.”
“Weekend,” I stop dead in my tracks. “Hold on, are you saying we’re staying all weekend. Friday-Sunday.” Right now I’m freaking out, my hands moving wildly, making me look either comical or insane.
“That is what a weekend consists of, so yes,” he answers, amusement dancing in his eyes.
“Jinx, this is insane.”
“It is, but really, when will you have another opportunity to do something this crazy? Following the rules all the time is boring. Let’s live, have fun. Come on Amethyst, live with me,” he pleads as he cups his hands on my face and our foreheads press together. My eyes were closed, but I open them so I can stare deeply in his
green-grey orbs. I can see nothing but sincerity in them as well as an overwhelming need for me to play along. I don’t know what he's trying to prove or what he’s running from, but he needs me to go along with him, and my stupid heart wants to give him just what he wants. This is crazy. Until tomorrow, I am underaged and we are on our way to Vegas without a chaperone, but it also feels right, so very right that it scares the shit out of me.
“Fine,” I huff going along with this crazy field trip.
He gives me another one of his stunning smiles and takes my hand, bringing it to his lips and kisses it.
“I promise, dove, you won’t regret this.”
I hope he’s right. Also, I hope by the end of this trip I don’t come out completely ruined, because I feel myself falling right over a dangerous edge I hadn’t let myself consider before. Especially not with him.
Chapter Five
Viva Las Vagas
Flying private is definitely the way to go. The cream leather seats was downright luxurious as my body sank into the supple leather. Everything I could possibly want was just a button press away. The food decadent, it practically melted on my tongue. In fact, the only complaint I really had was the over-friendly stewardess. She spent every chance she could flirting with Jinx. Oh, all of it was very subtle. Little touches here and there, or she’ll bend over a little too far causing her to show off her ample cleavage in her tight uniform unnecessarily. I give him credit though. He didn’t acknowledge her at all, his eyes never drifted over her model thin body. Instead, he stared at me the whole time like a cat eyeing a mouse. I couldn’t tell if he wanted to eat me or play with me, and like the lunatic I was turning into, I’m sad to say I was hoping for both. I blush thinking about Jinx in between my thighs while slutty stewardess Barbie watches.
“What are you thinking?” He asks, and of course, my fair skin betrays me and I blush even redder. I’m so glad he’s not a mind reader.
“Nothing,” I lie.
“You know, dove, you’re not a very good liar, but I’ll let it fly for now since we’re about to land.”
Turning away from his probing gaze, I stare out the window and watch all the colorful twinkling lights below us. It was definitely a spectacular sight to see. I have never been outside the state of New York so this was all a first for me. Evil grandmother and my aunt barely went on vacations and when they did, they never took me. I never minded. It meant I got the house to myself without their judgemental eyes following me everywhere.
I can feel the jet descend and soon the runway comes within view. The ride has been smooth so far, but I still grip the armrest once we hop and skid across the runway until the wheels stay firmly on the track and slow to a stop. When we exit the jet, I catch the stewardess slip Jinx a tiny slip of paper. I’m upset until he takes my hand, holding onto it tight and tosses the paper into the nearest wastebasket. I’m shocked. The stewardess was hot and Jinx isn’t a saint. Total manwhore actually, but for now it seems like the man is fully focused on me.
A town car is waiting to drive us to the strip. The farther we get in this adventure the more I think it’s crazy. I’m a minor, and we don’t have anything but the clothes we’re wearing. This was madness in the making, completely spontaneous, nothing like I have ever done in my whole life, and I was loving every bit of it. Jinx was right. When will this opportunity ever present itself to me again? Probably never. This may be his norm, but for me, this was once in a lifetime. Also, tomorrow was my birthday. It would be a shame to spend it alone in my room doing a History project.
The towncar pulls up in front of a swanky hotel called the Bellagio. A spectacular curved shaped structure that resembled the walls of the coliseum. The long water fountain in front shoots water high in the air enhanced by the gold lights. I heard about this place and read about it in books, but never dreamed I'd ever see it. I’m just realizing how crazy it is that I’ve lived such a boring life up until now. I have enough money to do whatever I want. I think my sheltered upbringing has hindered me in a way. That and the way people treat me like I’m a leper or something. Jinx is lucky, and I’m not talking about being rich. He grew up with his own, witches just like him. Witches who accepted him, while I was the black dot surrounded by white.
“Hey, where’s your mind right now?” He asks as he helps me out the car.
“Nowhere important,” I answer, and he frowns.
“I promise it isn’t anything,” I assure him. I don’t know why, but I don’t wish for him to be unhappy.
He accepts that and we walk inside. As soon as we walk through the doors it’s like all the employees snap to attention when their eyes land on him. At the counter the receptionist gets us checked in, in no time. The Penthouse suite. The bellhop comes for our luggage, but when he sees that we don’t have any he leads us over to the elevator. This place was treating Jinx like he’s royalty, and it was funny to watch people jump to do his bidding. Inside the elevator, the attendant waiting inside hits the PH button and we ride up listening to the soft sound of the elevator music.
Once we get to the room my jaw hits the floor when I step inside. This was unlike anything I have seen. Modern with sleek lines. By the outside of the place I did not expect the decor to be so modern, but inside it blended in modern and Little Italy perfectly. The walls are cream with a huge sitting area and comfy brown leather couches made from the same rich leather as the jet. A flat screen was mounted to the wall, but I couldn’t imagine it got much use. Besides watching porn, most visitors would be out on the strip gambling and having fun. The bedroom was exquisite with its huge king size bed. The headboard was one of those upholstered white leather affairs. The wall behind the bed was covered in wallpaper with golden leaves. Everything in here looked super expensive. Only the best for Jinx I guess.
“So what’s the deal with the employees here?” I ask plopping down on the bed. Groaning, I lay back basking in how good it feels. This bed was way more comfortable than my little ole twin bed back at the academy.
“My parents own a portion of this place,” he answers like it’s no big deal. His voice sounded kind of hitched, and when I turn my head his eyes are like a green blazing fire trailing over my body. My dress has risen up uncovering my thigh and he’s zeroed in on it. I watch as he moves closer then climbs over my body. I can feel his hard body over me, the warmth flowing from his skin to mine. That frozen blueberry scent was doing funny things to my brain, that’s the excuse I’m using for not stopping him when his lips meet mine and kisses me. At first, the kiss was slow and tender as we explore each others mouths, but it doesn’t take long for it to become scorching hot as we both battle for dominance. I may still have my V card and haven’t actually dated anyone, but I’ve seen a lot of porn and many movies that should be considered porn. I moan in his mouth, and his tongue moves in performing circus tricks. He’s a very good kisser. Too good. I can see how this works for him, how every red blooded female finds him irresistible. When his hand moves up my thigh and just edges my lace panties, I pull back.
“We should stop,” I say in a husky voice. Why did I say that? I don’t want to stop, especially with his hooded gaze focused solely on me.
“We should?” He smiles against my lips, but it sounds more like a question than a statement.
I’m disappointed when he moves off me which is crazy since I’m the one who stopped him. When he stands, my eyes widen at the impressive hard-on in his jeans. When he sees where my eyes are he gives me a smug grin. “Come on, dove before I change my mind about dinner, especially with the way you’re looking at me.”
My cheeks warm, but I stand and follow him out the room. I was starving, but food was not the only thing I was thinking about. Since when did my mind stay in the gutter? First Aiden, now days later I wanted to get hot and heavy with Jinx. Does turning eighteen involve a heightened libido?
The food was fabulous and so was the nightly entertainment. Jinx took me to see Cirque du Soleil. The acrobatics were amazing and so were the glittery c
ostumes they wore. It’s amazing the things humans can make their bodies do, almost magical. Maybe we’re not as different as people may think. I can cast spells, but I can’t flip in the air like I’m flying, or bend and contort myself like I don’t have a single bone in my body.
“Did you have fun?” Jinx asks once the show is over.
“Yes, that was so amazing. I can’t believe how talented they are. The costumes, lights, everything was spectacular,” I gush.
“I’m glad you enjoyed it.” He’s smiling again and I fall into it. I swear his lashes are longer than mine. Why does Jinx have to be so pretty and irresistible? He’s like crack. Take one hit and bam, you’re hooked, and right now he has me singing fuck rehab like Amy Winehouse.
“Where to now?” I ask, jumping at his enthusiasm. This is the happiest I’ve been in like, well ever.
“I thought we could do some gambling,” he answers.
“But I’m underage,” I point out which I immediately want to take back because I sound like a total dork.
“Actually it’s after midnight, so you’re officially eighteen now.”
“That’s true...Wait! How did you know it’s my birthday?”
“I know a lot about you Amethyst.”
I love how he says my name. The way his voice is husky and filled with promise. He’s too charismatic for my own good. I need to gather my wits about me. I can’t fall in love with the first guy who has shown me kindness.
“Like what?” I ask intrigued.
“Well, I know today is your birthday and you’re eighteen years old, that despite purple being your favorite color that strip of purple in your hair is natural and not dyed, your favorite thing to eat is anything chocolate, you like to hide behind sarcasm and a wicked tongue, and you’re one of those weird people who likes pineapples on your pizza.”
“What else?” I ask in awe that he knows so much about me. I couldn’t hide my surprise even if I wanted to. I hadn’t realized anyone paid attention to details about me like that.
