Draiochta Academy: All Genres Academy Anthology Page 37

“Did she look like this?” I ask before going over to the desk and roughly sketching out the girl’s face. Seeing the shocked look on my grandma’s face was all the confirmation I needed. This girl was trapped somewhere in the school and I knew somehow she was connected to Krystal's death.

“Nevermind, I already know the answer. I need to get ready. I want to look around before classes start.” Not giving her a chance to reply, I head straight for the bathroom. She would definitely try to talk me out of this, but I knew deep down this was something I had to do.

“Sometimes I honestly think you forget I am a ghost capable of literally walking through walls. You can't run and hide from me, Lyla. And contrary to what you may think I am not going to try to stop you doing whatever ridiculous scheme you have concocted in that ridiculous head of yours.” Before I could open my mouth, she raised a hand and continued to talk.

“All I ask is that you be careful, don't trust anyone and please talk to me and let me know what you’re planning. I can't help if I don't know what you’re up to.” With that, she left me a little speechless. I had expected a fight or at least a little reluctance on her part.

It only took me a few minutes to get ready. I had never been one to put too much stock into my looks. Whether it was nerves or determination to get some answers, I felt l tightness in my body start to loosen. I was finally going to get to the bottom of what happened with Krystal and figure out what was going on with the mystery girl from my dream.

Grabbing my backpack, I head out the door. The inside of the door is similar to the outside and the walls are made of stone. It is really like a real castle. Following the green carpet runner down the hall, I make my way outside. Checking my watch, I see that it is only seven in the morning. The freshman testing doesn’t start till ten so I have plenty of time to just mosey around and see if I can pick up on anything. The library seems like the perfect place to start. That way I can at least be up to date on the history of the school and everything that has happened since it opened. I heard all the rumors when I was growing up, but I needed all the information that I could get.

As I got closer to the main campus, I noticed more students were up and walking around. There were groups of them everywhere. Sitting on the grass, running down the paths getting in their morning exercise, even groups leaning against the building smoking and giggling. I know it is selfish, but I would give a lot to be one of those carefree teens who could just go to school because she wanted to, not because her sister had been murdered. Even in this place that is supposed to be a magical haven,I knew I had to stay on my guard. Every time I felt myself wishing I could relax my grandma’s warnings would ring loudly in my head. I could never let them know who I was and what I could do. It was too terrifying to think about what would happen to me if it got out.

Feeling the tears start to well up in my eyes, I shake my head to clear my thoughts. I couldn’t think that way, I didn’t have the luxury of doing so my sister wouldn’t have shared her vision with me if there wasn’t anything I could do about it.

Walking in the double doors of the main building, I see that the stone walls are decorated with missing kids flyers and flyers that talk about the mystery that is BBB Academy. It strikes me as strange when I see the ones saying, “Did you receive the gold envelope?” and “Don’t follow the clues!” scattered around the walls with all the others. That just doesn’t seem normal to me, but then again I have never been normal so what do I know.

Leaning down, I pick up a few and put them in my backpack to show grandma when I get back to my dorm and continue on to the library. I have a tingling feeling that there was something to be found in there to explain all the strangeness that was going on here. The people in the halls moved out of the way as I strode single-mindedly towards my target. Gran had always said that I was a force to be reckoned with when I set my mind to something and I guess this was what she meant. Nothing would stop me.

  Chapter Four

  Krystal

I screamed at Lyla, but as usual, she didn’t hear me. I had to warn her, but she never noticed anything I did like she did our grandmother.

“Stop yelling, damn it. I’ve told you that they can’t see us. Our souls are trapped here and there is nothing you can do until our soul is released. So just give up, you do not want to get their attention.” Gerald half yelled as he looked around making sure it was just us.

“You don’t get it. She is my twin, she will feel me eventually. I can’t let her fall into the same trap that we did and that is exactly what she is going to do. Her power is even greater than ours. When she is tested later, she will be on their radar. I have to stop her.” I knew I was being repetitive, but he just didn't understand.

“You should just give up hope. There is no way that anything good is going to come from this.” He said as we felt the buzz that signaled we were about to be summoned.

Before I could get any other words out, we were pulled into the dark dank caves. There were so many souls around a giant pentagram, that held what looked like a small girl encased in ice, in the center. I knew what was coming, but there was never anything I could do about it. All I could do was watch as the man in the hooded cloak walked forward and started chanting. A girl who looked to be from a few decades back stepped forward, her jean overalls and entire body transparent as she flowed over with a thralled look on her face.

The man’s chanting got louder as he put his hand through her chest and it started to glow bright red. Clearly, their powers were starting to fade because they were coming down to drain us more and more. Our souls kept them powerful, but draining us completely as he was doing now was the only way to make it permanent, however without us. They would never be able to keep the monster encased in ice as they do.

I could feel the nothingness start to take me under, and my only thought before it succeeded was that I had to save Lyla.
