“That’s, Sara, can’t make up her mind.”
“Hey!” I playfully shoved him.
“You keep up this abuse; I’m going to have to turn you into the police.” He joked.
“Oh, really. Well, take me in now,” I said as I held out my hands for him.
“I think I’ll turn that down.”
“But why Mr. Officer? I’ve been a bad girl,” I said in a sexy voice with my bottom lip poked out.
He chuckled. “Oh, Sara, you truly amaze me.”
I put my arms down and kissed him. “You truly amaze me,” I seconded.
“How are the wedding plans coming along?” Kaden questioned.
“They’re coming along well, I hope. I haven’t talked to Alyssa in a while. Maybe I’ll give her a call.”
“Here, call her now,” Kaden said as he handed me his phone. I took it and called Alyssa.
She answered on the third ring.
“Hello, Sara,” Alyssa answered.
“Hello,” I replied.
“I’ve been meaning to call you, but your fiancé told me that you two were going to Rome to visit his family so I didn’t want to bother you.”
“Did he not tell you when we were coming back?” I asked peering at Kaden slyly.
“He did, but I figured the reason you hadn’t called me since you returned home was because you were busy.”
“Well, it’s time to get back on track with this wedding.” I smiled.
“Okay. Before we discuss the wedding I wanted to ask you how your trip went.”
“We had a blast!”
“That’s good. Now for the wedding. There is one thing I need to make sure of. And that is, are you and Kaden still getting married in Rome at your fiancé’s, parent’s castle?”
“Yes, we are.”
“Okay. Now as far as everything else goes it is done and ready for your special day.”
I smiled. “Thank you for all of your help. I wouldn’t have known what to do without you.”
She laughed. “You are one of my beautiful brides that I am working with and that’s what I’m here for, is to make sure your wedding day the way you want it.”
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome. Please give me a call if anything changes.”
I smiled. “I will. Bye.”
“Bye, bye.”
When I hung up I handed Kaden his phone back. “You were the reason why she hasn’t called me,” I said.
“Well, while we were in Rome you didn’t seem to mind that she hadn’t called you,”
Kaden replied.
“I was having too much fun to think about important things.”
“I have a suggestion for you for college.”
“What is it?”
“I was thinking you could be a nurse.”
“I don’t know about that.”
“What’s wrong with being a nurse?”
“There’s nothing wrong with it. I don’t think I could stick someone with a needle.”
“I think you would be great as a nurse!”
“If you think being a nurse is so great then why don’t you be a nurse?”
“I can’t.”
“Why not?”
“I don’t like getting my fingers dirty.”
I giggled. “That excise sucked!”
He chuckled. “Really, Sara. Why don’t you look into it?”
“I’ll look into it, but I’m not promising I’ll do it.”
“That works for me.”
The pugs jumped up on my lap and I hugged them as they gave me kisses. “I love my babies.”
“I can’t wait for us to have human babies.”
“Who said we were going to do that?”
He laughed. “Really, Sara, you and I did.”
“We already have our babies,” I referred to the pugs that jumped down and went to their bed.
“Sara, don’t do this to me again.”
“Do what? I don’t remember saying that.”
“Sara?” He said discouraged.
“I’m just joking, Kaden, you don’t have to be so upset about it. What would you do if really didn’t want children?”
“I would try my best to show you the joys of having kids.”
“Would you leave me if I still didn’t want kids after all that convincing?”
“No, I would continue to talk to you about kids and just hope that one day before we’re in our forties you would agree to have kids.”
“Well, you don’t have to worry about that. I do want kids, but-”
“I know, not until you get school over with and finish collage and get a job.”
“I want a stable job and home before we bring kids into our life.”
“Sara-”
“I know we have money, well you do. I’m not married to you yet so nothing is considered to be half and half yet.”
“Maybe it’s not legally, but we are close enough to everything being half yours.”
“The way I see it it’s not.”
“What does it matter?”
“There’s no point arguing over this.”
He chuckled. “We do get into the dumbest arguments.”
I smiled. “I have to work when we have kids. I won’t be able to sit around the castle all day long with the kids and the pugs, I’d go crazy.”
He laughed. “There are hobbies you can endure.”
“Just get over it because I’m working whether you want me to or not.”
“So you’re planning on leaving our kids with a baby sitter?”
“I’d take whatever amount of time off of work that I’m allowed after I have each child to spend with them, but then I’ll go right back to work when I’m able to.”
“I don’t think you’ll want to go back to work.”
“Why not?”
“You’d be too attached to our baby.”
“We’ll see when that day comes.”
He chuckled. “Are you ready to go?”
“Huh? I didn’t know we were going somewhere?”
“You weren’t supposed to. Now lets go! I’m driving.”
He pulled me up and we got into his truck and he drove off.
“Where are we going?” I asked.
“You’ll know when we get there,” Kaden said
“You and those secrets of yours.”
He chuckled. “That’s me.”
“Do you think I should still call Lucy?”
“I think that would be a good idea.”
“But what If Lucy and I never get along? I’m not going to have her ruin my friendship with Kyle over something so stupid.”
“You’ll just have to see what Kyle thinks about her.”
“I’m not introducing Kyle to Lucy unless Lucy and I become friends again.”
“It doesn’t matter if you two don’t get along. You can’t just forget about Kyle.”
“Why should I do her a favor?”
“Think of it as doing a Kyle a favor. He needs it,”
“I know he does. I just worry about Kyle getting a broken heart again.”
“There’s nothing we can do to prevent Kyle from getting broken hearts.”
“Yes, we can by not introducing him to girls.”
He laughed. “You can’t expect Kyle to stay single for the rest of his life.”
“I have to ask, why do you think Kyle and Lucy are a good couple?”
“They’re both longing for love.”
“That doesn’t mean they’ll fall in love.”
“It’s worth a try for Kyle’s sake.”
“I know. I should to call him today.”

nbsp; “You can once I buy you your new phone. Oops.” He covered his mouth as I smiled at him.
“You spilled your guts for once.” We laughed.
When we arrived at the Verizon store I picked out a phone similar to the one my grandma bought me. After the clerk transferred my data to my new phone Kaden paid for everything then we left.
“Where do you want to go now?” Kaden asked as we climbed up into the truck.
“We can go out to dinner later tonight?” I suggested.
“Sounds good to me.”
When we arrived home Kaden and I sat on the living room couch.
“What time do you want to go to dinner?” I questioned.
“Five is good with me. Is it good with you?” Kaden quizzed.
“Yeah. I’m really nervous about calling Lucy.”
“Why?”
“I might have to beat her up again.”
He chuckled. “I hope not.”
“She deserved what she got.”
He chuckled. “You just have to call her and find out what happens.”
“Kaden, I’m just nervous. She kissed you and then I beat her up. So you really think she’s going to talk to me?”
“Just call her.”
“I think you should. Kyle’s your cousin.”
“Lucy’s not my friend. Do you still have her number?”
“I do.”
“I’m going to go find something to do while you call her.” He kissed me and then walked away.
I took out my new cell phone and just stared at it for about twenty minutes then I took in a deep breath and dialed her number. She picked up on the fifth ring.
“Hello?” Lucy answered. I didn’t say anything because I didn’t know what to say. “Hello, is anyone there?” I still didn’t say anything. “This is so not funny! Whoever-”
“Hi, it’s me, Sara,” I replied.
“Sara?” She asked surprised.
“Yeah, that’s me.”
“Why are you calling me?” She asked confused.
“I wanted to see if you want to get together and hang out one day?”
“Um, sure. Where at?”
“How about here at my place?”
“Okay, I’m free tomorrow after school. Is that okay with you?”
“That’s fine with me. Do you want to ride home with me?”
“That would be cool.”
“Okay, I’ll see you tomorrow at school.”
“Will do. Bye.”
“Bye.” We hung up.
“How’d it go?” Kaden asked standing by the steps. I stood up and walked over to him.
“It went alright. I’m still not sure how things will go. We’re hanging out tomorrow after
School,” I stated.
“That’s a start.”
“That’s if she shows up at my car to come with me.”
“Do you want me here tomorrow?”
“Of course.”
“I was just asking because-”
“I know and I want you here incase-”
“In case you two get in a fight.”
“You’ve got it.”
He smiled. “I think you two will be back at the friend level you two were at in a matter of time.”
“I hope so.”
Soon we were on our way to dinner. After we were seated and had ordered our drinks we looked over the menu.
“What are you going to get?” I questioned.
“I’m not sure. So many choices,” Kaden said.
“I think I might get the caesar salad, baked potato with bacon bits, chives and sour cream.”
“Sounds really good. I think I might get the steak tenderloin and a baked potato, same as yours.”
After the waiter returned with our drinks we ordered our food.
“Kaden,” I said as the waiter walked away.
“Yeah?” Kaden questioned.
“I have to be honest, Kaden. My stomach is in knots knowing I’ll be talking to Lucy again.”
“I know. Try not to get into a fight.”
“I won’t as long as she doesn’t.”
He laughed. “Why don’t you call Anna and Susie, see what they think.”
“I already know their answer.”
“They might have changed their minds.”
“I’ll talk to Anna about it in school tomorrow.”
“And then call Susie?”
“Yeah.”
After we ate Kaden paid and we went home. After we put on our pajamas I got under the covers with Kaden.
Kaden kissed me. “I had a nice dinner,” Kaden stated.
“I did too. I hope we get to do this once you become prince like at least once in a while,” I replied.
He smiled. “We’ll do it more than once in a while.”
I grinned. “Good.”
“How are Susie and Jake doing?’
“Last time I talked to her they were doing well.”
“How come you two don’t talk often?”
“I don’t want to pester her. If I could have it my way I’d call her at least twice a week.”
“I don’t want you girls to become distant. You guys were great friends. Don’t let life ruin that.”
“I’m trying not to, but have you noticed she doesn’t call me either.”
“I know how it feels to lose a best friend to life changes.”
“You do?” I asked surprised.
“I never told you this story because I felt if I kept it safe within me I’d never have to speak of it or remember it ever again, but I was wrong so I’m going to tell you.”
“Okay, I’m listening.”
He sighed. “Back when I was five up until I was sixteen I had a great best friend, Landon Dunning, was his name. We grew up together. He was like my brother. He was skinny with messy brown hair and blue eyes. We were neighbors and we played together every day. Our parents were close and everyone used to say that Landon and I would be best friends till the end. I believed that. We always had a problem with the kid next door to us. His name was Hank Henning. He bullied us all the time. One day it was a bright sunny summer day. Landon and I were going to meet down at the pond to fish like we did every summer morning. The reason why we met there instead of walking together was because he got up later than I did. I waited at the pond for him for over an hour, but he never showed up. I thought he got caught up in something and forgot about fishing, but I was wrong. The next day I wake up to see officers in our kitchen. My mom and dad were crying. They sat me down as Officer Turner, sat across from me. He looked into my eyes and said, “Son do you know Landon, Landon Dunning?” I said, “Yes, he’s my best friend. What’s wrong with him?” He said, “I’m sorry to have to tell you this, but he was found this morning dead about a mile from the pond.” I freaked out and went ballistic! My dad had to calm me down. The cop told me someone murdered him yesterday morning and they took me in as a suspect and that made me madder than ever. They found the killer though.”
“Who was it?” I asked as tears were falling down my checks.
He sighed. “It was Hank.” I sucked in air. “He told the cops that he killed Landon because he had the nerve to come by his house offering him to come fishing with us. Hank, said that Landon was just trying to fool him and they got into an argument. He said. “While Landon was starting to walk toward the pond he grabbed him, pulled him into the woods and killed him. “Hank was bigger than Landon and I put together so he had it easy killing Landon. Landon didn’t have a chance to get away. When they brought Hank into the court room and sentenced him to life in prison I walked up to him before they put him away and asked him, “Why did you kill my best friend? What did he do wrong to deserve what yo
u did to him?” He turned and stared into my eyes and said, “I had fun killing him! You were the one that I really wanted, but I got Landon instead. You and Landon are nothing to me. I hate you both and now I get the pleasure of seeing you
Suffer.” I punched him right in the face a couple of times before the cops pulled me off of him. His face had blood pouring out. I was trying to fight the cop that was holding me back so I could hit him some more. When the cops helped him up he laughed at me and said, “You’re a sorry piece of shit! I told him I will get you one day.”
I told him, “Those punches are from Landon, you fuck head!” Then the cops took him away and threw me out of the court room. I started crying and my mom and Dad hugged me. Hanks parents apologized to us in the court room that day with tears in their eyes of losing their son and for what their son did. I ignored them when they tried to apologize to me. They tried their best to help me get through what happened, but I pushed them away, angry at them for what they let their son do to my best friend. My parents helped me get through what happened. They didn’t like Hanks parents. They ended up moving away. Landon’s parents ended up moving away about a month later not being able to bear to look at where their son was killed. I lost him and his parents who were closest to keeping him alive. For some time I didn’t go back to the pond. One day I got the courage to go back and dug a hole, put Landon’s fishing rod in it and covered it up. I sat on that spot for hours and hours sometimes my mom had to come get me and bring me back home. I went to his grave to sit a lot too and talked to him, but it hurt my heart so much to look at his grave knowing he’s in there. I did get over it eventually, but I still think about him every day and miss our friendship.”
“I’m so sorry, Kaden.” I said as we hugged.
“That’s why I want you to befriend Lucy again and keep in touch with Anna and Susie.
“You never know when it’ll be your last day.”
I sniffled. “You’re definitely right. Have you visited his grave lately?”
“Lets get to bed. I’m really tired and it’s almost eleven.” We got into bed with the pugs. I fell asleep wondering why he didn’t answer my question. But felt it might be best not to mention it again.
The next day at school I sat in the cafeteria and pulled out my class schedule. I had the same homeroom. First period I had Algebra two with trigonometry, history for second period, lunch, third period I had English 12 and then fourth period I had chemistry.
