‘Breeze,’ Seb said, as he finally got back his breath, ‘promise me you’ll never leave. Promise me this isn’t our last night. Make it our first.’
She leant over, combed her fingers through his hair and said, ‘I’m happy to throw in my lot with you, happier than I’ve ever been.’
‘And promise me one other thing.’
She smiled, her sensuous lips so broad she wondered if she’d ever stop smiling. ‘Anything,’ she said.
‘Never be blonde again, never be someone you aren’t.’ He teased chestnut curls through his fingers.
‘For you I’ll do anything,’ she said and with that, she raised her glass and toasted, ‘Happy birthday,’ as she folded herself into his loving arms again.
