The vampire man takes a step forward and I see that it’s Nathan behind him. “You! You fucking piece of shit!” I blast him and he goes flying into a tree in my yard. I hand Luna to Richard and make a move to kill that mother fucker and someone holds me back.
“Ah, little goddess, nice to finally meet you. I’ve been watching you for quite some time.” He sneers as he looks at me from head to toe and back over to where Nathan is moaning on the ground. He points his thumb at the sad man, “This one here convinced me that there’s two goddesses on the mortal plane. I didn’t believe him, at first, since I was told years ago that you would be taking the birth control potions. Looks like they failed.” He nods and snaps his fingers and the five head council members from Seattle pop in and fall to the ground as they land. “Why did no one tell me that the little goddess got pregnant? You were supposed to handle this!”
All of the men are shaking and trying to stand. “You don’t understand! We were given orders that she had to be moved to London, we thought it was from you!” One shouts out as the ground shakes around them.
Lucifer tilts his head. “I think you’ve been given too much power. Too much leeway to do whatever you want. You’re nothing. You’re all that you are because of ME!” His voice booms through the yard and I feel it through my bones. “You have fucked up everything.” He snaps his fingers again and all of them scream out and slam to the ground while holding their heads. “Councilmen, fucking useless. You’re supposed to be the leaders of the witches and warlocks. You were supposed to bow down to me. You were supposed to fucking control this.” He waves his hand at me and clucks his tongue. “You had your chances. You can’t even control your own men.” He looks back over to Nathan and curls his lip.
He looks back over to me and checks out each man and nods his head. He looks over to Richard and down to my daughter. His eyes start glowing blue and he stumbles back. “No. No.” He mumbles and shakes his head. He falls to his knees and snaps his fingers until Nathan is laid out before him. “YOU. YOU TRIED YOU KILL MY MATE?” He places his hand on Nathan’s head, nods, and then slams his fist in through his chest and rips out his heart and tosses it to the five other councilmen that are still on the ground. “You’re all done. Can’t follow instructions. Can’t figure out a fucking prophesy. Couldn’t even figure out how to get ahold of the second prophesy. Useless.” He snaps his fingers and they all go up in flames. All that’s left is Nathan, with a hole through his chest, and his bloody heart on the ground.
I’m sure most of my men are put off by this, but I watch everything with rapt attention and intrigue. I wonder what I could really do with my goddess powers. I think of turning Nathan into a statue for the front of the house and snap my fingers.
“It worked!” I clap my hands and snap my fingers again to turn his heart into a paper weight to bring with me to my desk in the magic room. I pick it up and smile down at it. “Perfect." I look over to the statue and smile wider. He looks terrified and has a huge hole through his chest. He’s standing perfectly straight with his arms tied behind his back with ropes wrapped around his body from his neck to his feet. “Beautiful.” I hear someone cough from behind me and turn around and see all of my men gaping at me. Well besides Mark, since he probably knew I would do something like this.
Lucifer stands and grabs a handkerchief from the pocket of his black slacks and cleans off his hands. “Do you have a copy of the second prophesy, Ms. Strom?” He seems calmer now, extremely subdued. I nod and think about the book in the library and it flies down to me along with my journal and a pen. I read it over again while I quickly flip through the pages:
“The Goddess bore the new beginning,
More goddess than witch, brings new change to the realms.
Lost in the void, blinded by the new light,
The King finds a new path for the realms to unite.”
I copy it down for him and float it over to him. He looks down to read it, then snaps his fingers and the paper glows with blue fire before disappearing.
“This changes everything.” He straightens his dress shirt and jacket and runs his fingers through his immaculate, gelled back hair. He nods at us, snaps his fingers, and vanishes. I look down to where he was standing, and there’s an envelope on the ground with my name sprawled across the front. I take it over to the others and rip it open; inside is a letter and a beautiful necklace with a large, black diamond that I can feel Lucifer’s sinister magic rolling off of. I read the letter out loud:
“I will ensure my mate is safe. I will work on ending the wars if the gods are amenable and agree to my terms. The necklace will mask her powers and ensure all demons know she is to be protected and never touched or harmed. You can change it into a pendant that she can wear on her clothes until she is old enough to wear a necklace and understands to always wear it. It will take decades to sort everything out in regard to my home realm and your corrupt, incompetent council. I will check in with my mate once per year. If you fail to make contact with me when I request it, I will find her, and you will not like the consequences.
Lucifer.”
Richard hasn’t moved from where he’s standing with Luna in his arms. He is staring down at her with tears in his eyes. “Richard, can you come in and talk with us?”
He shakes his head. “I have to go, who knows what Lucifer is going to do.” He takes a deep breath and places his forehead against Mark’s. “I love you so much, son. Your mother is happy and safe in my realm. Since her body was burned after she died, I was able to pull her spirit to me and make her whole.” He looks up to the sky and smiles. “She’s going to go crazy not being able to hold this beautiful girl.” He gives me a kiss on the head and hands Luna over to Mark. “If the war actually ends, we will come back to the mortal realm.” He nods at all of us and he smiles sadly as his form vanishes.
We slowly make our way inside and sit around the living room in silence. “So. The King of Hell is our daughter’s mate.” I nod and close my eyes. “Well, at least he’s hot.”
Mark glares at me and cuddles his daughter. “Fuck.”
Afterword
Unlock and Bind is the second book in the Maya Strom Series - and these books have saved me in these crazy times.
COVID, homeschooling, being cooped up in my house with my children and my dogs.
Such insane times, and to offset my poor mental state, writing has been such a reprieve.
Thank you for reading, and for all of your support.

Thank you to all of my friends and family for the support - even if you don't know that I'm writing!
Thank you to my readers - you're all amazing. These are my first books ever written, and it still makes me nauseous letting them out into the world.
Please review, and thank you so much again! I know it's annoying, but it really helps out new authors!
