by Lisa Gibbs
Chest Pass
Hold the ball in both hands and push it out from chest height.
Lob Pass
Use one hand to throw the ball high so that it makes an arc in the air before it reaches your partner. Try to throw it high enough so that your partner needs to jump to catch the ball.
Bounce Pass
Hold the ball in both hands. Bounce the ball on the ground between you and your partner so that it bounces up into the hands of your partner.
HOT TIP
Try swapping partners to mix up the challenge.
How to Be Amazing in the Goal Circle: Lead, Receive and Shoot
1. GS and GK start in the goal circle.
2. All other players stand around the goal circle.
3. GS starts with the ball. GS has to pass the ball out to one of the players around the goal circle three times before being allowed to shoot.
4. Each time the GS passes the ball to one of the players around the goal circle, the GS tries to get into a better position to shoot for goal.
5. GK defends and tries to intercept the passes.
6. Players on the outside of the goal circle need to use accurate lob, bounce and chest passes to prevent the ball from being intercepted by the GK, and to help GS get into a better position for shooting goals.
HOT TIP
Try practising with a GS and GK that are different heights.
Be the Fastest and Pass on the Run
1. Grab a partner and a netball.
2. Stand three metres apart, both facing the same direction.
3. Move together in a slow jog down the court.
4. Pass the ball between you as you go.
5. When you catch the ball and land on one foot, take one step with the other foot and then pass the ball to your partner.
6. Remember: the first foot that hits the ground after you catch the ball is your landing foot. As long as your landing foot doesn’t touch the ground again when you are holding the ball, you won’t be pulled up for stepping.
HOT TIP
Try speeding up as you get better at your footwork.
